i'll have to research this a bit but i was unaware of this. In a quick search, he is noted as playing the bass clarinet on BTCS as well as contrabass clarinet on Everyday

haven't really found anything specific... but my guess would be that he used the clarinets in some of D'Earth's arrangements that accompany the band.

Yeah thats what I heard, Dreaming Tree.

This came up in a thread a few weeks ago, but does, or did, roi have a bass clarinet up on stage at one point? I don't see one on stage anymore, but I do remember seeing it. If someone wants to check their Central Park Dvd, I'm pretty sure he had it up there on his stand.

He's not going to have a contrabass clarinet on stage unless he builds a booster. Google it. You'll know why.

I'm pretty sure there is a shot of the bass clarinet on the CP DVD.

i've seen pics on the dmb tour pages from 2 or 3 summers ago of the bass clarinet being on stage standing next to the saxes. i always wondered what songs he played it live on. i've never seen a pic of him actually playing it on stage.

here is a pic from the 2003 summer tour. you can easily see the bass clarinet sitting to the left of the saxes.

I'm pretty sure when I saw them in Columbus in 2003 he played this on Dreaming Tree. It was the first Dreaming Tree played in awhile....

It was on stage at Alpine 2003, but they didn't play Dreaming Tree (I remember it was there because they took it off during the encore break, so I was bummed we weren't going to get it during the encore).

Target Center 2003 (3 days after Alpine), it wasn't on stage, but they played Dreaming Tree. I think he only used it during the very beginning of the 2003 tour, then just decided it wasn't totally necessary to deal with.

I dunno about this I'm listening to So Right right now and it does not sound like a contrabass clarinet. Being someone thats played clarinet/bass clar/contrabass and all the saxes (not tryin to toot my own horn here haha) that instrument sounds more "woody" than a contra sounds. sounds like a bari or even a bass sax to me. but i cant be sure

yea i think to even hear the contra on a song like that it would have to be so amped up and would become distorted. from what i've heard in bands i've played in...the contra-clarinet is not a loud instrument by any means because it just plays at such low octaves. so right is definitely bari sax all the way.

yeah... it's quite possible there was a contra being played, but it's without a doubt being masked by the sax. Just the property of the instrument.

He used one for Dreaming Tree at Starlake in 03. I have the recording, but honestly if I didn't see it in person I wouldn't have known it was there. Just kinda get's covered up as mentioned above. Now a Tubax on the otherhand...:evil
