So earlier this week, this webite came online:
http://ibelieveinharveydent.warnerbros.com/
For those of you who don't get it, it's part of the early marketing campaign for The Dark Knight, the sequel to Batman Begins. Aaron Eckhart plays Harvey Dent who eventually becomes Two-Face.
Earlier this morning, another website debuted:
http://www.ibelieveinharveydenttoo.com/
I'm not going to ruin the fun for you, but needless to say, it's some pretty damn good marketing on Warner Bros. part.

HEATH Ledger? Really?
Wow.
I've always loved "Batman" and "Superman" more than "Spiderman," but, if they keep re-imagining the two franchises as well as they did with "Batman Begins," and "Superman Returns," I definitely think that they will be remembered as the best comic book movies (including "X-Men").
So, Two-Face and the Joker? Any idea on where this movie will fall in the series chronology? Simply after "Begins" and the first "Batman?"

I can't wait, CAN'T WAIT I TELL YA, for this movie. I actually saw this website yesterday from another forum and the guy that posted it also said that comic book stores are carrying little cards that have that picture and say "I believe in Harvey Dent".
I'm so excited about Heath too, so many people have such little faith in him being able to pull off the role, but I think he's going to do an awesome job.

To Amber: I agree with you on Ledger. I think it's going to be like Daniel Craig with Casino Royale where everyone hated that casting choice, but yet he ended up doing an awesome job.
a little FYI, Billy Dee Williams took the role of Harvey Dent in the 1989 batman with the promise that he'd play Two-Face eventually. Guess that didnt' work out exactly as planned...

Yep, the source material they gave Ledger was 'The Killing Joke' and Ledger said he wanted the focus to be not on the laugh but more the crazy eyes/insanity bit. This looks all shades of kickass.

Aaron Eckhart is playing Two Face, or the character that then turned into Two Face, Harvey Dent. Ledger is playing The Joker.
And I love the way this series is going. I never liked the originals, but I love how dark "Begins" was and how this one is shaping up to be. I wonder if The Joker will be as freaky as Scarecrow was in "Begins."

from the imdb summary:
Batman and Lt. Gordon work together to bring all the inmates and Crane back to justice. They soon find alliance with the new DA official, Harvey Dent who's Rachel Dawes' new partner. Out of all the escaped inmates, only one hasn't been captured. His name is Jack Napier, but refers to himself as the Joker. He becomes obsessed with Batman and uses his sick, twisted sense of humor to lure Batman out into the open by killing all that are close to him. Will Batman Bring him to Justice or has the Joker had the last laugh?

Right, much like what SUPERMAN RETURNS did with at least part of the original Christopher Reeve series, they're simply ignoring any previous big screen version of Batman that came before. So it's not like you think of 1989's BATMAN as happening maybe like a few years later in Gotham city after BB's events took place. BB established a brand new chronology, if you will.
But also from what I know, it's not entirely accurate to label this movie as having Joker and "Two Face" in it as villains. It'll largely deal with Batman's meeting and dueling with the Joker, using it to set up Harvey Dent. I don't know if the actual conversion will occur before the credits roll on this one, but the third film will deal with Dent becoming Two Face and also the Joker's trial, from what I've heard for probably almost a year now.
And not that ultimately I'm not behind the casting decision because I like Maggie Gyllenhaal infinitely more than I do Katie Holmes, I'm just still so surprised they're actually doing it, in a major budget studio film simply recasting a significant supporting character from the 1st to 2nd film, as Rachel Dawes of course. Although it's so up in the air how everything on Spiderman 4 will end up shake out, if we'll have a new Peter Parker by then, which is entirely possible (some would say likely). Of course ironically enough the first name everyone will still probably be saying for that is Maggie's brother Jake. ;)
So Scarecrow will be back in this new one to some degree as well, eh? This was I felt probably the single biggest flaw in BATMAN BEGINS. There was very little to his character, you knew virtually nothing about him other than he had this funky mask he put on and shot this gas out that fucked your brain up. No real history or pathos at all.
edit: I'm still VERY reticent on Heath Ledger as Joker. I've just never liked the kid, something about him annoys me, and I feel, though yes this is suposed to be Napier near the start of his crime career, it still fees like too young casting (ala Kate Bosworth in Superman). I just don't know. Back with the original Batman I was in the camp when I heard Keaton of not having backlash, but thinking Hmmm.. that's strange. And I ended up thinking he totally knocked it out of the park.

I agree and disagree. They really could have fleshed him out, and they didn't, but I feel it was the right move. The film couldn't handle more backstory IMO without sacrificing pacing and clarity.
And I thought he was acted well enough and enough was implied for him to not come across as so underdeveloped a character so that it actually hurts the film
Batman Begins was good, very good. I'd love to watch it now but I have Princess Mononoke lined up, which I love too. The only flaw with BB i thought was the action sequences, though really it speaks to the strength of story and character development that that wasn't a main drawback in a movie that most would consider primarily action

The way I see it, they'll be setting up Harvey Dent, like how they set up the new Goblin in Spiderman series. I love that idea because having too many villains is what killed the last series.
While I wouldn't mind seeing Rachel die off, why would the studio replace Katie Holmes with another pretty big-name actress (and price) just to have her die in the first act? Just sayin'.

Agreed...and Nolan is not a chronological storyteller. Perhaps we'll be seeing more background on his character in the sequel ala Bill in the Kill Bill movies.

I think Heath is so unbelieveably underrated. I honestly think people are going to be so surprised by his role in this movie. Any interview he's spoken about it in he clearly talks about how seriously he's taking the role and how he's not "practicing his laugh", but figuring out how to make the character as twisted as possible. His best movies are ones that people are quick to cast aside. It's a shame.
I also think that the second movie will let us look deeper into Scarecrow, I think we might learn a little bit more about him.

good point--Rachel's death would make the battle Batman and Joker more meaningful, much like burton's batman where joker killed bruce's parents, which set up the fantastic climax in the church

So NO Katie Holmes? That's stupid, can't we at least have some continuity?
And "Batman Begins" has begun a new chronology of the story? So all pre-2005 Batman movies are irrelevant now? Hmmm, I'm not sure I like that... See, when it all boils down, I like the idea of being able to buy a boxed-set, like the Star-Trek movies.

Yes.
As far as Katie Holmes not being in the film goes, I don't think that was a studio move. I think it was a personal/Tom influenced decision on her part. If you guys kept up on your celebrity gossip, you'd know Tom pretty much decides what she does or doesn't do. :lol

Okay obviously for as much as I do know about the film, I guess I missed this part somewhere along the way.... it's known definitely as fact that Rachel Dawes bites it before we even get to the halfway mark?
I will say though (& not like 3 & 4 didn't have enough other problems anway) one constant thread I definitely wasn't too high on with the original 4 movies is that it was a different love interest for Bruce every time.

Well again, I think most fans are gonna be behind this, especially in the wake of her kidnapping/marriage by Tom Cruise (plenty enough before then, however) she's not really a hugely popular actress, & particularly with the types of fans that are fans of BB, not many will miss here, even though yes like I said in one of my previous posts, it's a very unorthodoxed movie for a major studio/big budget flick.
And hey, all pre-2005 Batman movies were pretty much already irrelevant on their own even before BB came out.
*rimshot* :D Thank you, thank you, I'll be here all week. Tip your waitresses. For real though, "Forever" and "& Robin" were beyond atrocious, what fans "Returns" does have is more of like a cult following I guess, and sure the 1st had quite a bit going for it but overall... I mean 3 & 4 really hurt the legacy of this franchise. Hence all the time off and the approach being taken now. I think most fans think it was ultimately a good call.
And for what it's worth there is an existing boxed set you can buy "THE BATMAN ANTHOLOGY" that's got all four 80's & 90's movies in it.

I like to see that Nolan is building the story across 3 movies... The joker was mentioned in the last one, Crane will be in this one as well, We see the good Harvey in this one, and he'll tranform towards the end of this one and on into the next... makes the movies much more like a continual story (like Star Wars or LOTR, in a sense).
I think replacing Katie Holmes is fine. As much as it would be better if they didn't have to, but it's not like they're replacing Bale.

Christian Bale is like oxygen to me. I can't live without him. I'm terribly obsessed with him. But at least I'm not in denial. :D Too bad I don't get to see him naked and covered in blood like another movie of his...
And Chris Nolan is fantastic.
I heard that Holmes wasn't asked to do this film because of Tom and his crazy antics and pissing off the film company. That could've just been empty information though.
Maggie Gyllenhaal will hopefully add a lot to the role of Rachel that Holmes (clearly) couldn't add.
I hope too many villians doesn't ruin the film.

i think they can pull off three or so villians.
BB had scarecrow, falcone, and ras al ghul (sp?)
this one will apparently have joker, scarecrow, and maybe a full fledged two-face at the end, along with all the goonies that'll probably follow joker.
BB was able to have as many villians as it did without feeling overcrowded. all the villains paths crossed to some degree but it's not like they all combined forces in the corny way that the 3 villians in Spider Man 3 did.
I'm sorry, but the whole "let's have an epic battle where spider man fights all three at the end" thing was about the corniest idea you can resort to.
as long as TDK doesn't have the joker, scarecrow and harvey all join up at the end to try and take down batman, they should be able to pull it off.

Jett, the dude that runs the whole thing, is very thorough takes his Batman fandom very seriously. He's partially responsible for Christian Bale being cast as Bruce Wayne after lobbying for him on the site.

OK. Let's see if this works. Because I just figured it out too and its actually really easy.
1. Go to www.ibelieveinharveydenttoo.com

Bingo. No clue how that would transfer for Mac. But if you have Microsoft Word on there, there should be a replace feature somewhere within the menus. Ctrl-H is just the shortcut for the replace feature.

I'm not a big "superhero" move fan. Don't care about Spiderman, or Fantastic Four. But Batman Begins was the shit. I hate Tim Burton and his whole style of doing movies. Yes the first one was good, but corny. Batman Begins was way better, way more darker, and more real. This new one should be real good. Christian Bale is way better for the role. Thanks for the heads up

http://ibelieveinharveydent.warnerbros.com/
I saw the "haha" secret message on the second site, but what is the javascript in the first site (above) doing? Java is needed to display a picture?
Awesome.
I really want a sadistic Joker. Something that makes you go, "whattttt?!?!?" ME. TOO. Batman was my first love, but I never got into ANY of the movies until Batman Begins. Now THAT was a Batman movie. I want to be scared. In Batman Begins, I was even scared of Batman a little bit, as it should be! He's a very dark character. But I think (I'm hoping) this Joker will rip my face off.
:thumbsup
I think Heath is so unbelieveably underrated. I honestly think people are going to be so surprised by his role in this movie. Any interview he's spoken about it in he clearly talks about how seriously he's taking the role and how he's not "practicing his laugh", but figuring out how to make the character as twisted as possible. His best movies are ones that people are quick to cast aside. It's a shame.
I think so, too. I think his talent outranks his looks by far, but I don't think most people see that yet. I cannot WAIT to see him in this!

Btw, there's been some debate on this particular point for awhile now, but Aaron Eckhart has officially confirmed it -- he will not only be playing Harvey Dent the district attorney, but he'll also be playing Two-Face in this. What I mean is, it had been speculated for a long time that as "THE DARK KNIGHT" would primarily be about the joker, that Harvey Dent would also be featured but it wouldn't actually be within this film where you see his transformation into Two-Face, that such an action wouldn't occur until the next film. Not true, you WILL see Eckhart as both regular man and villain in this film.

Looking forward to that. However, I'm hoping his transformation is not until towards the end of the film, and they slowly build upon it for the greater majority of the movie.
I can't flipping wait for July 2008.

According to an article in Premiere, "the Joker would go on trial, scarring Dent in the process". It's old (5/9/05) so they no doubt made changes, but it seems like a good way to introduce Two-Face.

I expect that the most they'll show of Two-Face is him reacting to his disfiguration a scene or two after he's attacked.

Of course as a bank teller I have to step in and say that mutilating money is a federal offence and not something to be taken lightly. If a bill like this came through my window it would be immediately destroyed.

One part of me now has me thinking though, that I really don't want to see any scene of it, until I see the film in its entirety. I want to see all of its greatness for the first time in its entirety rather than watch something "recycled". I used to work at a movie theatre, and watched parts of movies when there was downtime. Usually, when I finally see those movies I watched clips of before, I walk out underwhelmed.

Yeah, Batman-on-film.com had this story the other day. The way he made it sound was this was someting entirely seperate from the actual film. A "proglogue" as it says. I hope this is the case, and its not an actual scene from the movie. Sort of like a 24 prequel type deal. That would be pretty cool!
For instance, if this seven minutes of film is something that may have happened during or just after events of Batman Begins and before events in The Dark Knight. That would be so f'ing cool! But yeah, I am totally going to see this in IMAX theaters in two months! CAN'T FREAKING WAIT!!!!

That's exactly what it's going to be. And this information has actually been out for almost 5 months now, but I guess this just puts the final details into place that it will be shown with I Am Legend. It appears this will indeed be a "prologue" completely seperate from the film and was shot specifically for IMAX theaters. Which KICKS MAJOR ASS!!
"Following many months of testing, the first of the Imax-lensed scenes, including a prologue that introduces the Joker (Heath Ledger), was shot in Chicago last month, several weeks in advance of the actual start of principal photography. Additional scenes will be filmed with Imax cameras during the course of production." http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/news/e3ieac90360954f656741f97fb3a117d32c

yes! i've been checking whysoserious.com daily for the past week or so. each day the candle is burned down a little further. i just checked a minute ago and the wax is below the bottom of the mouth, with only the flame being visible. also, if you look you'll notice what looks like some pumpkin rot on the right side of the pumkin, it's real subtle, but you'll notice if you look. (and it appears white, akin to the joker's white face, maybe?)
i feel geeky when i say it's killing me to know what that flame going out will lead to. the online promotion for TDK has been awesome so far.

Okay boy was THIS as confusing as hell for me to piece together as I sat and just took this all in from its multiple sources. Mostly because this is the very first I'm hearing about ANY of this. :ugh
So let me make sure I have this right. This December, only in IMAX theatres that are screening "I AM LEGEND" specifically, you can see the opening 5 minutes of "THE DARK KNIGHT". (and gee, presumably this 5 minutes won't then be lopped off when it has its proper release next summer :p )
I don't get this at all. Though for one thing, to AlpineValley, unless I'm wrong, can't you still go to see I Am Legend at the IMAX theatre but simply time your arrival late to not see the TDK footage, if you don't want you in that atmosphere? Just like pretty much with wanting to avoid trailers at a regular theatre.
Frankly I never understood when certain movies did this, they'd have the opening chunk of a movie be released online or something weeks before, especially if it's something substantial, like maybe 10:00. I can't think of a worse possible way for you to be able to appreciate a film, I sure as hell wouldn't want that as a director. It's completely negating the whole concept of having a particular pace and cadence to the story that you're telling. You should be seeing a movie in one sitting, from start to finish, it's that simple.

I was only going for the fact that this prologue was in front of it, but then now knowing it's going to be the first five minutes, I don't want to go...I never really cared about seeing I Am Legend one way or another, I was just going for this prologue thing, which will not be playing in front of I Am Legend in regular theatres. If I do decide to see the movie, I might as well see it in a regular theatre instead, because I don't have to time my arrival to a pinpoint so I miss this prologue thing and as well because of the fact, that regular theatres are actually cheaper than the IMAX, for as expensive as they already are.

I'm assuming this means the desktop is an "active webpage" now so if it changes at all, we don't need to refresh or anything right?

That is correct. I've had the page as a background on my work desktop since Monday. The candle had been lower every morning. :)

So this DEFINITELY has something to do with Two-Face. Its getting more and more obvious each day. Check out www.whysoserious.com and you can clearly see only the one side of the pumpkin face is rotting while the other stays perfect. Here's to hoping 5 days from now we get to see Eckhart decked out as TWO-FACE!!!

Only 2 more days 'til Halloween and check out www.whysoserious.com
It updates every night around midnight, so hopefully we'll have something to sink our teeth into in about 26 hours...the pumpkin gets creepier and creepier...

They've done it again. There will be a MASSIVE scavenger hunt starting tomorrow involving at least 10 major cities to find pieces to Joker's latest puzzle. The question is, what will all this reveal?

Boston's missions:
1. Where Winter meets Tremont, you'll find a sign pointing to Locke Ober. Go the opposite direction a few steps until you find a dog's best friend or two. You want red, not green.
2. Stand on the west corner of Atlantic Ave. & Summer St. Look across Atlantic above the three blue sentinels.
3. In front of Old City Hall, look for what lies between the quaver and the mus.
I'll swing by this week when I get a chance!

Yeah, nothing in Orlando either, but my hometown of Miami had 3 clues, one of which ended up being a U from the U of M. That's pretty cool!

So far, it looks like it says: "The only sensible way to L____ the world is without rules." I'm sure it will be finished in a matter of hours.

"The only sensible way to live in this world is without rules."
The question is...what does it mean?!? And when will the rest of the pictures finish the puzzle? I wish we could just solve it like on Wheel of Fortune and find out what it means already! :lol

It looks like there's a picture underneath the puzzle...I bet once all the letters are in, there will be a nice new official picture of Two-Face. Just my guess though...
