very nice... but i hope you don't end it like that before going into the song. If you want the prelude to end before the actual song starts, i'd fade the parts you had just layered out til all you can hear is maybe the tambourine... then bring in the guitar or drum or piano or whatever starts your song as the tambourine fades out... or bring in the intro to your song on top of the tambourine so as the tambourine becomes your song's pulse. The end just seemed very abrupt. But I know you said you haven't written the song yet... so just some ideas.

I have the song written, just not recorded. However, I didn't really treat this as a legitimate prelude. If I had the song recorded and everything, I would have definitely added transition elements to make a proper transistion from prelude to song. I just treated this more as an isolated work I suppose. But, it's more of a prelude than not, so I'll call it so.
Thanks for listening. :)

i love the meandering piano as things get moving. when the tambourine picks up and the prelude reaches its climax, i enjoyed it, but it felt a bit out of place.
i understand what you are doing, however i think it sounds cool as it is - building up to a climax, hitting that last note, then taking the song in a slightly different direction with a key change or something of that nature.
i think the musical idea is very good - reminiscent of the way phish wrote in "movements" - however, you have to be careful not to overstep the bounds of a prelude (which the first 45 seconds of this does a great job doing) by making it too "big"
just my .02 - it sounds fantastic - are you recording all of the instruments yourself? are any of them looped or computerized?

Thanks, Andrew. I understand the whole bounds of the prelude thing you're talking about, but it's more of a random recording that deals very closely with another song of mine - so I thought for labeling's sake I'd label it a prelude.
All the instruments are live (not computerized) and done by me. The only looping I did was the three nylon string guitar tracks that lay the foundation for the first half.

Yo, that's way chill man, I'm diggin it.
Whoever said the Phish reference above (too bloody lazy to scroll up) was spot on. . but it also adds something fresh once it gets into that tambourine ditty. Loved the progression of it all, the nylon guitar riffs for the foundation definitely sounds supreme.
End gets a little bit busy, but obviously you want to transition into something else, so it will work out. Good stuff chap, I like it.

Thanks. What this Phish thing you're refering to?
I'm going to polish it up a bit tomorrow, and I'll start working on another original.

Take two, with gay guitar licks and a revised outro with drums:

Gotta say I like the first version way more.
The second one sounded a lot like Linus and Lucy for the last minute or so.

I'm not really hearing the Linus and Lucy thing. I mean, they're both repeated phrases on the piano, but that's about it.

I just heard a similarity in there...
I say lose the drums though. I think the first cut sounded much more mature and smooth. The second one felt a little forced.
Look forward to hearing the finished product with it next to the real song. :thumbsup

Yeah, I'm kind of stuck in a rut on the song itself. We'll see where it goes. I've got a lot of stuff to record though.

In all seriousness, it reminds me of some song from Pocahontas. But I really do like it.
