kevin lowe and his offer sheets to ufa's - good tactics, desperation, contributing to the overall inflation of middle-level player salaries? at least a few gm's will hate him before the end of the summer.

as a sharks fan... i love EDM's offer for Penner... its a win win...

if ANA matches... less cap room... if Penner walks... Penner leaves the division...

Penner had the most goals against SJ in the Division

This rivalry is going to be insane for the next few years. I love how the season ends playing you guys home-home.

Have you seen our prototype that was leaked?

I think it might have been used just to judge the fans thoughts, because I was in Dick's today and they had the sweaters that were marked down all summer back up to full price.

I don't think there is good or bad when it comes to jersey design. I think it's all personal taste. I prefer the traditional look, but I don't have big problem with people who prefer the modern look.

Thanks, Rob. Flyers' one isn't really that different. As for the new jerseys, I like the Sharks' jerseys. The Tampa ones make them look faggy, and I just laughed hysterically at the Canucks jersey. They need to go back to the black, yellow, and orange colors.

Being from Detroit, at least people show up for the Lions. Are the Wolves still bringing in more fans than the Blackhawks? I wish Chicago could get better. It was a great rivalry with the Wings until 98 and then it was all down hill for the Hawks.

I hate what Lowe has been doing. I know you have to overpay to get RFA's away because if not the team with the guys rights would match it easily. But the Vanek one was worse to me because of the price and Darcy told him they would match so there was no reason for him to do it. I don't think Burke should match it. Perry and Getzlag are up for new contracts next year. Burke made the right move in signing Schneider I thought, even if they did overpay. Bertuzzi was dumb, especially for 2 years. Penner should have been his concern after finding Neidermeyers replacement. I wonder with the idea of losing Selanne too to retirement I wonder if he finally felt the pressure of being #1 and staying there. When he was just another team, like with the Canucks, he made the smart moves and not overpaying. I don't care how much he likes Bert, giving him that moeny for 2 years is dumb.

I like some of the jersey changes, mainly the Caps and the Blue Jackets. Very cool logos/jerseys. Flyers have a slight change, but I like it.

I think the Pens have managed to take all the links down. The prototype I saw floating around was very similar to the current one, but with some awful side pannels and rounded trim on the wrists.

The fact that Dick's has bumped the price back up, makes me believe they changed their mind.

The Pens jersey is brutal. It looks unfinished, so I'm hoping we'll stick with the old one or atleast improve on the prototype.

Take a good look at the sleeves. They don't match the body. The MO of the new sweaters is piping, but the Pens one has no piping on the sleeves, where it could improve the look. I don't think the Pens will be on the ice in that.

I think they would look much diffrenet on a player. I don't like them, but a lot of the gold is going to be hidden I think.

I've never paid attention to the Sharks side pannels to know for sure.

But you don't know whats going on behind the scenes. He may have been a pain the butt in the dressing room, like he was when he was here. The guy doesn't know when to shut up sometimes. Sometimes I look at this guy and see how he could help out every team. If he could do that all the time he would be great. And I'm sure a lot of bad things gets said in those hearings that no one ever really hears about. You have to take your side strong. Was it over the top? Maybe. But the way he acts at times probably gets under the skin of his teammates just as much as he does of the guys he plays against.

i dont know...i think if he was a problem in the locker room, or if certain players had issues with him, they wouldnt have re-signed him.
again, the guy is a role player for the rangers.
not saying he should be wearing the "c" but he does have a role on the team and he does excel at it.
the rangers got him as an antagonizer, not as a 40 goal scorer. he does what he is paid to do. nothing more, nothing less.

Bet you almost none of those players were Rangers. I think the main reason why the Rangers called him a cancer, or whatever the hell they called him is because they didn't want to pay him at all. They were basically going in the arbritration hoping that Avery wouldn't get much. Talk about blue balling a guy who sparked the team in the second half. The guy was on fire the entire time of those 21 games.

so what do you guys think about the Sabres this year? As long as we have Miller in the net I think we should be competitive. Were going to miss Briere and Drury in the beggining of the year but I think with increased ice time players like Vanek, Stafford and Roy will have no problem picking up the slack.

yeah the Sabres might not win the division but as they showed last year winning the division and even the presidents trophy does not guarantee success in the playoffs. As for Vanek he played primarily on a line with Roy and Max so he shouldnt miss Briere to much.

haha it really comes down to whether or not you're going to get your money's worth...if i was living in a place where there rangers were considered "out of market" and i couldnt watch them unless i bought the package, i would do it in a heartbeat, but i know i would never miss a game. if you're a more casual fan, it's going to be a tougher decision :shrug

Covered him for a year in college. He's ubertalented and the kind of player who will be a great leader. There were times his freshman year where he was hands down the best player on the ice as a 17 year old.

Just gotta throw in about center ice. For sure if you are following a team outside of the market you live in you get it. If I didn't live near Detroit I would get it. I'm interested to see if my cable company will carry this new NHL Network that is suppsoed to start up soon. I don't need it but it would be cool to have. If my company picks it up I probably won't have to pay anything extra for it since I already have the sports package that is similar to packages that other companies that are carrying it have. If that makes sense. I'm just happy that as of this past May that my company now has VS.

How do you fix the ratings? Force people to watch? The NHL isn't a tv driven sport. But the rumor out there had NBC dropping the NHL after this season and ESPN trying to pick up the games that NBC was getting. Honestly I think that helps if it were to happen. It can't hurt cause the ratings on NBC were awful so keeping the NHL on cable won't be any worse. Also it seems VS is getting on more cable companies. The NHL needs to come up with a strategy to market the game better. I think especially now with all the bad press the NFL and NBA has been getting. It's a great sport if people learn about it. They are the most talented pro athletes out of the NBA, MLB, NFL and NHL. You don't have any 350lbs fat guys out there like in the NFL and the base is a lot more uptempo than MLB or the NBA. Average fans just look and see low scoring. I don't know if they can ever fix it. It will never the other 3 but I would like to see it beter.

I wouldn't count on it, the basketball was forced down everyones throat without much testing, feedback, or research. They got all the right people to buy-in on the new jerseys, they are here to stay...

They are already working on something to make these jerseys better. So theses exact ones might be gone. They may be lighter but they hold in the water which makes the players very hot. One quote from a player is "obviously the guy who made them doesn't play hockey."

Yeah, there will be improvements, it still a work in progress, but we won't be going back to the hold jerseys

i would not really matter all that much, they can always get new gloves anytime during a game. the skates i can understand if you are wearing socks, i dont know if most players in the nhl dont ware them but i know playing hockey i never wore them so.

I think the Panthers might have the worst looking uniform in sports. Nashville and San Jose aren't far behind.

San Jose cracks me up. Modern colors just look terrible on a traditional uniform like that.

I really hate that 75% of the new designs are off a template. It's very WNBAish. Also, where have shoulder patches gone?

I'm sure we'll all get used to them soon.

Covered him in college. He is a straight stud. There wasn't a weakness in his game at the collegiate level, and on top of that he was the most level-headed hockey player I regularly dealt with.

Patrice Bergeron just took a nasty hit during today's game and his life may be in danger. The hit came in the first period and Bergeron was motionless from the time of the hit. I really hope he is ok but it really did not look good.

BOSTON (AP) -Bruins center Patrice Bergeron was taken from the ice on a stretcher Saturday against Philadelphia after apparently losing consciousness when he was hit from behind by Flyers defenseman Nick Jones.

Medical personnel cut away Bergeron's jersey and shoulder pads as they worked on him, placing his neck in a brace. They placed him on a board and then onto a stretcher, his legs taped together and his arms folded across his chest. There was little sign of movement. The game was delayed some 15 minutes with 3:53 left in the first period.

Jones drew a 5-minute major for boarding and a game misconduct.

Bergeron and Jones were chasing a loose puck when Bergeron took the hit in the back and hit the glass face-first. He went down on the ice on his back and lay virtually motionless as Jones continued pursuing the puck. As the whistle blew, Boston's Chuck Kobasew went after Jones, drawing a roughing penalty.
