should I get? I had an electric once and stopped playing b4 i was anywhere near good. Im a junior in college now with tons of free time, so I'm looking to pick it up again.
I'm thinking acoustic, but don't know what kind of guitar to get or brand and what not.

What price range are you looking at? What kind of sound do you want?
If you're looking at the $700 and down range, then Seagulls are a personal favorite of mine. If you want to spend around $400 then take a look at Ibanez guitars - also very good for starters imo. Takamine (G series) is another popular favorite around here.
Don't buy a low end ($1,000ish or less) Taylor or Martin, they're not worth it in my opinion.

If you are looking for a good starter without electronics, I would suggest a Seagull if you can find one. Their tone is heads above anything in the pricwe range. Other than that the Taks and Yamahas are pretty decent as well.
Go to your nearest dealer and try everything. Make it a weekend voyage and try anything and everything. Very often you can try 4 guitars of the same make and model and they will all feel and sound different. Once you find what you love, spend $15 on a humidifier to ensure that the neck remains straight.

I play an acoustic fender CE-300 and i am very happy with how it sounds. I paid about $290-$300 for it and it gets the job done for a good price. Its a good rhythm guitar.

My acoustic is a Dean Exotica RSE. Looks and sounds a lot like Dave's, at a fraction of the price. Plus it has 23 frets, which is great if you're a lead guitarist like myself.

Ive got a Yamaha that I really like. Got it for about 350.
I've got the FG702S. Solid top and sounds really nice, and it was only 260. People never mention the Yamaha fg series around here, some very nice guitars in that price range.

Mid-range price guitar? Go Seagull or Larrivee.
Expensive guitar? Taylor, Martin, or Breedlove.

Breedloves are sweet guitars, they look weird but sound great.
I bought a great ibanez for 500 bucks. What everyones mentioned so far are all decent, just get out and play as many as you can, its a matter of preferance now

I have a $400 Ibanez AW, and my buddy who has a 1000+ Ovation likes the sound of mine over his. If you do get one in that price range, make sure to buy high quality strings (D'Addarrio or Martin), otherwise the higher fret notes dont sound too pleasing

Just to throw it out there, i've been trying to get rid of a Gibson Chet Atkins SST like Dave used to play. It has some dings in it, but it sounds badass. Asking $800 plus shipping. Let me know if you're interested.

ok??? not new...and there def wont be any warranty attached to it..and its also 200.00 more for the same sound...taylor guitars sound very similiar until you get into the 4-5 series...its not worth it...and take my word bc ive played every single taylor out there and know the difference

Disagree. The 400-series Ovangkol has a more realistic boom than the 300-series Sapele. The low-end on the Ovangkol is finer as well, and a little tighter. The 100 series and 200 series have a false sounding low-end to me. All Taylors have a bright sound though, so I definitely can't complain about the high-end. Take my word for it, I should be in rehab for how much I know about Taylor guitars.

you just proved my previous statement....and there is no way you know what your talking about i have owned a 3 series and recently purchased a 1 series 2 years ago and they sound very similar imo the 1 series actually sounds better..
false sounding haha no taylor guitar is false sounding..why dont you go compare the 1 series taylor to any high end ibanez in the 500 dollar area and youll see which sounds false... dude im sorry to say but i dont believe you have any idea what youre talking about

As a new guitar player, don't get caught up in what type of guitar it is, and don't worry about getting a "cheap or low end" guitar. Go out, play as many guits as you can, and pick the one you like the sound of. I bought several guitars the last 15 years, and to this day the one I beat on the most is a 10 year old, $200 Samick LW-15G that I absolutley love the sound of.

If you don't think some of the lower-end Taylor's have a mock high-end sound than you're either kidding yourself, or you're blindly stuck up taylor's ass.

Couldn't agree more. I played tons of Taylors before I bought my Larrivee LV-05 and I did find a big difference between the 400 and 300 series. The 100 and 200 have a "loose" low end. Not the clearly defined sound of the 400.

Listen to the man!! If you are still playing a few years from now, then go out and splurge. Then you can buy a "real" guitar.
Here's a quick note on your Taks, Ibanez, Washburn, Dean etc. They are all pretty much made in Korea. There is very little difference between the quality of similiarly priced guitars. Every one will have a unique sound and feel. Go with what your ears and hands tell you.

I disagree completely with your last statement. I recently bought a $500 Martin 000X1. I took my time playing alot in that price range, and kept going back to the Martin. Surprisingly enough because the Martin does have laminate sides and back, but somehow no other guitar I played in the price range sounded as good, or was as easy to play as the Martin.

same here, i still cant find a guitar that is as easy to play as my martin. its amazing.
sound wise, sure it could be better. but with a new set of strings its hard to beat. even with far more expensive guitars.

it has more to do with the neck than the maker, if they build the necks the same and have similar adjustments on the strings they in theory they should play very similarly.
my martin is set up to how i like it, so obviously it plays better for me
my roomates 310 sucks to play on.
honestly he has like lights or extra lights on it and i find it harder to play than my guitar with medium strings on it... i dont know why.
plus i think my guitar sounds better. :p
