Best team in baseball right now 14/15 are going to beat the Phils in 5.

Colorado was the only team from the NL I didn't want to face. It's going to go 5 and I think that home crowd in game 5 will get it done for the Phils. They've gone through everything this year and the way they are winning games is amazing. But you can just call me your typical Philly fan, but that's what I think will happen.

they were hard over the mets all the way til sunday, just because it was a new york team. overrated and pathetic.

Actually nope, not so far. Tonight Orel Hershiser picked them (no game #) as did Tim Kurkian (5 games).
Kinda fitting that the opening round will pit the two top contenders for the league MVP award against each other ;)
I'm saying the Phillies but not just because I'm from Philly and want them. If nothing else, there's a sort of X factor to this team this year that I can't really explain (well I guess that's why they call it that :p ) and all things being equal, that would be the difference.

First round is best out of 5 ;)
And as to the broadcasting question like I said in the other round, I'm not sure what to think. Because though tonight's was also on TBS, it was not the usual Braves crew, it were guys I'd never heard before. So don't know if it'll be them or our guys. But yep, there's always the radio and the mute button :cool

The postseason is a crapshoot, which makes it alot of fun. Everyone has their theories on who will win (hotter team, better pitching, etc) but there are few factors that correlate into an advantage for a team in such a short series.
I personally predict Phillies in 5, but it could be Rockies in 3. You just never know.

dude the rockies single handedly knocked out LA and San Diego from the playoff picture, they also took 2/3 from AZ a playoff team to make it.
the Rockies are just Rolling like nobody and the Phillies are good for sure, they just dont have pitching like other teams so they dont stand a chance against the best offense in the NL.
The AZ vs COL series is going to be good. both teams are on fire and rolling.
i feel bad for the Cubs and Phills, they dont stand a chance. the NL west is so fucking good. i would put money that even if it was the dodgers and padres in the Playoffs the Phills and Cubs would still not make it to the NLCS.
man and those teams are only going to get better.... all soooo young. The AL is getting old the NL is about to take over for the next 10 years. :thumbsup

Brewers, Cubs, Padres, Dodgers, Braves, D'Backs, Rockies, Mets, Phillies and to some extent the Pirates and Marlins
all are pretty young and have a LOT of tallent.
i think the tied is going to turn. I just dont see the dominate young players in the AL like i do in the NL.

It was funny to actually see people in that stadium. It must be easy for them to be fans when they only show up to playoff games. It's a shame because Phillies and Cubs fans continue to support their teams and go through all the suffering, while the Rockies fanbase was pretty much created within the last week...when they got to the playoffs, of course.

Denver is a young city, so there are plenty of revelers willing to take part. I was in Lo Do last night and it was just insane. We may not win the World Series, but it felt like we did last night. I think folks are just enjoying the moments as they come.
I did see the "old guys"- those guys who have lived in CO forever and waited forever to get their baseball team and were running around with the 20-somethings. It's a really great party right now and most people seem to be just shaking their heads, wondering how in the hell it all happened. Also, as I've said before, there are tons of baseball fans here, but with so many transplants and the Rockies always sucking, people just kept their hometeams.

Don't get me wrong, I know there are diehards there. It would bother me if I was one of them, sticking with the team all this time, then have everyone jumping on the bandwagon. But I see what you're saying and it makes sense. I could see how that works.

You got it all wrong, Denver is one of, if not the, best sports towns in the country. You think Rockies fans are bandwagon jumpers? This is the first time in a decade this team has done anything exciting. I understand that baseball teams have their ups and downs, but it's different with the Rockies. The Monfort Brothers have run this team into the ground by not spending a penny on the team, yet jacking up prices year after year. Colorado fans are loyal in every aspect of every sport, but when you have dickhead owners that only care about themselves, why should we care?
As for transplants and people that were never Rockies fans in the first place? That's bullshit! The very first Rockies game ever drew a crowd of 80,000 plus and set the still standing MLB record. As soon as the Rockies moved into their new ballpark, they soldout the first 203 games. Not too shabby for a town full of transplants. Thing is, Denver is an amazing city, no one leaves there. There are lots of people from other cities, because living in Chicago, Philadelphia, the entire state of Ohio sucks royal balls, but much more are home grown.
If anything, these pennypinching jew owners need to look at what happens when they put a decent team on the field, fans come immediately, what we don't do in Denver is put up with mediocrity, bad teams yes, but purposely putting bullshit on the field, we don't stand for.

So you're saying no one ever showed up to games this year because of the owners? Why did they decide to end that boycott once they got in the playoffs? Philadelphia's ownership has not cared about winning for a very long time, but people consistently show up to games. This was also the first time the Phillies have done something exciting in OVER a decade but people still showed up to the games all this time. So the fact that they weren't competitive isn't an excuse either.

I can think of a couple of examples in baseball where money doesn't buy you a world series. God Bless Clint Hurdle.
I never (and will never) knock Denver as a sports town, but I stand by what I said about the transplants keeping their hometeams- in baseball. I remember those sold out games the first season- I even went to a couple. But the past few years, we've gone to several a season and Coors is nowhere near capacity. The only times it comes close is when The Red Sox, Cubs, Yanks, Giants, or White Sox are in town. The biggest turnout i've personally been to was last season after the Barry Bonds scandal broke and the Giants were in town. Sure, there were solid Rockies fans here, but this is not (or was not, I should say) a baseball town. This is Bronco and Avs country. Hell, the Avs hold the NHL record for consecutive sellouts, but as a transplanted team they got damn lucky by winning the Cup their first year in Denver. You get better turnouts at Nuggets games, but that's no doubt due to the capacity of the Can compared to the ballpark.
But yeah, here in Denver we take our sports seriously, no doubt about that.
EDIT: Also, I've been to professional games in different cities and I gotta say, I've never seen anywhere it's so acceptable for so many people to wear the opposing team's jersey than Coor's Field and I think that's bullshit. Hurdle's "Heroes" (as all the tshirts ay now) consist of guys that bonded in the farm team and the vets that have never recieved much respect. I find it all a little ironic, actually.

Okay, I see where you're coming from, but look at the numbers, Colorado sold 2.3 million tickets this year, you guys sold 3 mil. I wouldn't call Colorado fan non existant. And for owners that don't give a shit? The Rockies shelled out a an easy 54 million in payroll, 25th in the league, your Phillies put out 90 mil, 14th in the league. Anything else?
larrythelegend_
10-08-2007, 01:02 AM
And just to further my point, for no reason because the rest of the country is asleep by now, but in 2001, the year the Rockies overpaid for Mike Hampton and Danny Neagle, they were the 5th highest in the majors in attendance. Ahead of them were by only 100,000 people, the New York Yankees, Cleveland Indians, Seattle Mariners and San Fran Giants. All of which were in the playoffs. Where were the Rockies that year? Dead fucking last, again, but at least they tried to put some talent on the field and act like they give a fuck, so in turn, fans showed up to the park.

Yeah but a lot of that money goes in the wrong places. I.e. Adam Eaton 3/2.3 million I believe. Ryan Howard got a 1/$900,000 contract, although he'll probably get a big one this season. Pat Burrell has been way overpaid as well. Although he did turn it around, finally, the 2nd half of this season.
