I recently got a hand full of the orange Dave Matthews guitar picks with the DMB tribal design on the front. If anyone is interested in buying something that Dave uses personally go to E-Bay and search "Dave Matthews guitar pick"
Cheers!

No, i'm not hard up for cash. I received several and only really need one which I'm getting put into a shadow box along with a signed drumhead, a Carter stick I caught at the last Alpine show I attended, and all my tickets from DMB concerts I've attended. I thought I'd be cool and spread the love a little, maybe bring some sunshine to someones day as they have for me. Do you think that sounds hard up?
The thing I've always loved about the DMB community is how everyone shares whether it's over the boards or at concerts. I'm also huge into audio/dvd trading. For people to offer B&P's is awesome to me. It's time consuming and really gives no benefit to the person processing the trade other then the fact that they know they are spreading the love. That's why I'm selling them. I couldn't bring myself to just giving them away as they are still, at least to me, some what valuable. So I've offered them up on E-Bay.
I'm a little un-easy by the fact that you'd think I was hard up or desperate. Far from it. There's a lot of other things I'd sell first, my Gibson guitar, my 1991 Nissan 240SX parked in the driveway that's not been driven in a year, etc.
Oh well, I guess you can't please everyone.
Cheers!

so I caught a pick at the Woodlands this year...bright orange, has his signature on one side, and on the other, it says Day Matches
is that just a joke? I saw that he had 3 other picks just like these lined up on his mic, so I know it's his...just weird...guess it's some inside joke that he wanted printed on his picks?

i love the transition from liking how giving the community is to not wanting to give them away, but rather exploit the community in order to gain some sales. :lol

i do, obvoiusly
selling pics is weak, they were likely not even used by Dave. Ive got a few from a friend that work lighting at Riverbend, she told me they have loads of them around the show day. Most are not even used on stage. Its nice to have but trying to make a buck on them, c'mon.

This is exactly how I got them as well. I'm not saying they are used by Dave. You're spot on. But they are still real deal Dave picks.
And why is selling something like this lame? I just don't understand whats the problem with this. It's something that can be considered valuable to someone, why is selling it wrong? People buy re-prints of autographs,,, now that's lame trying to sell those. But an actual pick,,, help me understand where you are coming from.
If a pick isn't okay to sell, what is? Why is a pick off limits and other things aren't? I've never sold a ticket for more than face value. I've given away numbers upon numbers of B&P's and set up countless trades. Now I have something that's personal, a pick from Dave's stash, and I get jumped.
I'm really open to your opinion. Please, educate me.

Exploit? Again selling something of value,,, that's exploiting?
Let me toss out a lame example but an example non the less.
Let's say you win something, how about a Taylor guitar. But you don't play guitar nor do you ever plan on starting. You know this thing is worth something to someone so you sell it and end up getting $1500 for it. Is that exploiting? You didn't pay anything for it.

Dave Matthews has three picks that I'm aware of.
1 - the pick he used all threw the 90's, it's the tribal logo on front, nothing on the back. Orange. (this is what I'm selling)
2 - an orange pick, front says "DAY MATCHES" and the back is his signature. It's sort of an inside joke. Look at his signature on the back. You really can't make out what it says but it sort of looks like,,,,, yep, DAY MATCHES.
3 - a black pick with the same tribal logo on the front as the original 90's version and his signature on the back.

granted, the pic will have a value to someone
to me, selling something with no intrinsic value like a pic, is a lame thing to do. to me, its a waste of time.
I'm not jumping you as a person but your choice to sell something as (practically) worthless as a guitar pic.
It like selling a potato chip that looks like Richard Nixon. someone will buy it but its actually pretty worthless. - that's where the exploitation comes in. your just about preying on dave's devoted fan base to make some money.
to each his own i suppose.

Again I respect your opinion. That clears up where you're coming from. I guess it's as you said, to each his own.
I agree a pick, a stupid little piece of plastic, is indeed worthless in general. But I didn't intend on preying on Dave's devoted fans base as you state. I myself am apart of that devoted fan base. I've got every 'non tour' poster ever sold, every tour T-shirt, autographs, 50+ DMB DVD's, 1000+ DMB audio shows, and have attended over 20 concerts all over the midwest. When I got these things they became a prized possession and was something I showed to any and everyone who came to my house. I was proud to have them and show them off. I felt like I owned a little piece of the Dave Matthews experience, not just the memories. Why does anyone buy an autograph? In general it's a piece of paper or a picture with ink on it. Why is that valuable? It's because it was signed by someone famous. We want to own a part of that person even if it is just ink on a piece of paper. Same thing with these picks. They are strait out of a box of picks that Dave actually used on tour. It's exactly what he's played with in the past. I can see pictures of Dave with this pick in his hands. Oh well.
Agree to disagree.

The thing I've always loved about the DMB community is how everyone shares whether it's over the boards or at concerts.
See, the difference is YOU ARE NOT SHARING! This is what's pathetic about this. If you truly wanted to share and spread the love you'd be handing these out to the community.

The fact that you come onto a DMB message boards and advertise stuff your selling on Ebay is not only lame and low, but against the board policies.
I'm not sure what your situation is but don't come on here acting like you're hooking people up when you're really trying to make a quick buck on Ebay!

i didn't say that the selling of the picks was exploiting anything. you're just using this community (that you love for all of the sharing) to try and make some money. i think it's funny, considering how you worded everything. if people want to pay for these, so be it - but let's not sit around and pretend like you're not trying to make money by making this thread here.
