Whoever wins the Rockies-Phillies series will come out of the NL, and as much as I'd like to see the AL Central represented for 3 years in a row, I'm gonna have to say I like the Yankees.

Well, I'm rooting for the Cubs. They have as good a shot to make it to the WS as any other NL team. There's no clear cut favorite in the NL.
The Indians (as much as it pains me to say this) will take the AL...their Number 1 and 2 pitchers are just downright filthy. And we'll have an I-90 World Series w/ the Cubs taking it in 6!

Yeah, Z and Lilly really match up against Carmona and Sabathia :ugh
I'm a Sox fan, and I know the Cubs have a chance this year, but remember, they only won 85 games, and on paper, you can't tell me that they're better than any team in the NL except maybe the D-backs.

Good thing the Cardinals didn't play baseball on paper last year, huh?

Why is that spoken like a true South Sider? You're basing your predictions off of a team that won the worst division in baseball and by having a biased opinion towards them and claiming they're similar to the Cardinals of last year. They've dropped 5 of their last 7, and are falling ass backwards into the playoffs. Usually you'll hear just about everyone from analysts to fans saying that, whoever goes in the hottest has the best chance to win.
Go ahead and categorize me as a stereotypical White Sox fan, I just go by what I see (which is MLB extra innings). Again, the Phills and the Rockies are the hottest teams in baseball right now, and to tell me that the Cubs right now are better than them is a joke.
I mean, are you really that comfortable with Rich Hill starting for you in the playoffs? I'd rather have Jamie Moyer.

I think you're speaking w/ a bias towards the Cubs, which is fine. I'm sure you don't want them to win.
But, like stated earlier, you can throw your paper out the window. And if you do wanna look on paper......you can't tell me that the Cubs don't have one of, if not the, strongest lineups in the NL playoffs. They've hit 40+ HR in the month of Sept and are hitting the shit out of the ball and are probably the second hottest hitting team in the NL, next to the Rocks...excpet we have pitching.

What it comes down to is if the Yankees dont win it all, its because they choked. They were undoubtably the team to beat all second half long. Their lineup is insane, and they have the best player in the game. Their bullpen has actually been much better in the second half. Wang and Pettite were pretty untouchable all 2nd half. Joba cant be touched, which means that if the Yankees even have any sort of a lead after 6, good luck.
The only thing in the Indians favor is that CC and Carmona will be throwing at the Jake with the crowd behind them in their most comfortable setting. If it leaves the Jake 1-1 or worse I dont know if they have a chance. (Remember, Yanks won season series 6-0... its pretty hard to not pick them here, even with the starters for the tribe).
I like the Red Sox against the Angels. If the Yankees beat the Indians, the Yanks go to the WS. If the Indians beat the Yankees, the Red Sox go to the WS. I only say this because they Yankees have more than enough bats to beat the Sox pitching (especially the crumbling bullpen), which they proved all second half... I dont think the Indians have enough to do the same.
For the NL... I dont really know about Chi vs Ari. Or Phi vs Col. All I know is that as long as the Phillies and Rockies dont beat the life out of each other, the winner of that series will go to the WS (you see it all the time, when you are hot youre hot, and these teams have been on fire). I hope Chi goes to the NLCS, and I even would love to see them in the WS, but I just dont think they have enough to get it done. I'll take Phillies from the NL.
Sooo... Yankees vs. Phillies. Yankees in 6. My back up prediction is Boston vs. Chicago. Red Sox in 5.

Yea, that's what they said about the All-Star game a couple years ago when the NL had the trio of Billy Wagner, John Smoltz & Eric Gagne in the back of the bullpen. They still lost. And when they had the lead when they handed it off to them. Funny thing is that game came smack in the middle of Gagne's record breaking streak of consecutive saves. But of course the AS game wouldn't be counted ;)
Trevor Hoffman, all time saves leader just blew 2 straight, and what was it they said, 3 of the last 7?
And wasn't it Mo himself that blew 2 straight saves in that infamous 2004 ALCS?
Point: Shit happens. At any given moment.

Cubs: 11-6 in their last 17 games.
Phillies: 13-4 to close out September, including overcoming the Mets who led by 7.0 games.
Rockies: 14-1 in the last 15 games.
And if you're talking about the end of September, 2-4 and having the Marlins pull out the brooms for y'all is nothing to brag about. We took ourselves out of the race just as much as you guys did. You gave us the chances, we didn't capitalize. We were more concerned with getting revenge on Pujols...

My quick analysis:
YANKEES: Terrifying line-up/power, but shaky starting pitching. Bullpen is strong.
RED SOX: Same as Yankees, but somewhat better pitching/bullpen.
INDIANS: Maybe the best 1-2 pitching punch in the playoffs.
ANGELS: Awesome pitching, and Vlad & Garrett are still killing the ball.
PHILLIES: On a major roll, but little to no experience in post-season MAY hurt.
CUBS: Best record in NL since early June if I recall. Bullpen is shaky.
ROCKIES: See "Phillies."
DIAMONDBACKS: A great "small ball" team with little POWER.
So, who do I WANT to win: 1. Cubs 2. Red Sox
Who do I THINK will win? Not a clue. MLB is becoming like the NCAA Tournament: Once you're in, it's upset galore.

The Cubs bullpen has actually been their strongpoint since June. Wood, Howry, Eyre, and especially Marmol have all been solid. With Big Z being inconsistent the past two months (though he didnt give up a run his last two starts), and Hill who knows what you're going to get, I'd say their starting pitching is their shaky point.
Soriano, Lee, and Ramirez all hit the crap out of the ball in September...about time too. Because this whole year the Cubs had been excessively underachieving in the home run department.

I think he can be a great long reliever. I'd rather him than Julian Taveraz. What? Tavarez has been nothing but money out of the pen this year...

But I will still take a 4.16 ERA over a 5.15 ERA, anyday. Especially a man who has been known to do well in the playoffs. If we can have him against the Yankees, I'd be happy.
EDIT - And last time Tavarez was in the playoffs (2005) he blew it big time.

Predictions. Just for fun. I have legitimate reasons for all of them except for the ALCS, but I have to study.
CLE def NYY in 4.
BOS def LAA in 5.
PHI def COL in 5.
ARI def CHC in 5.
CLE def BOS in 7.
PHI def ARI in 6.
CLE def PHI in 6.
Yay.

i cant believe the sox are still going to start Drew instead of Ellsbury that shit kinda pisses me off..i know Drew is making the money but give me a break. Its the playoffs.
I don't have a problem with it. Drew ended the season really hot (.500/.565/.889) while Jacoby came back down to earth a bit (.273/.261/.318) Ellsbury will be a huge spark off the bench, but if Drew continues his hitting into the playoffs, the sox will be tough to beat.

Agreed, he'll be great to come off the bench for Papi late in the game then pull a double switch by moving manny to DH and keeping Ellsbury in at LF...

Mo's not that sharp these days man.
He had a few rough patches this year, it is unusual is all, I doubt anyone is worried. Come playoff time he'll be just fine as always. Teams will be seeing a healthy dose of him, I assure you. I can also wager that if you polled the playoff teams he'd come up near the top of any list of pitchers they don't want to be facing when they need to tie a game up late. The man has probably the best postseason numbers of any pitcher in history who has pitched more than X innings, believe me, Mo is the least of my bullpen concerns and he is also probably the last guy teams want to see with their season on the line.

As a Yankee fan I have two real worries.
1)They're in trouble if they run into two hot starters in the same series.
2)The backend of their rotation falls apart and as a result our pen is toast by a game 4 or 5.
We have a lot going for us though so I am optimistic. The top of our rotation is fine. The back end of our pen is as good as anyones. Our offense is about as good as it gets this year.
What I would really love to see is an ALDS that we win where A-Rod hits .500 with 7 RBI's and Jeter hits .112 - would love to see how the tabloids in NY deal with that one - my guess is they'd show the box scores & recaps then run a boatload of editorials on Chad Pennington.

Ted Lilly looked like that was his first time pitching against big leaguers. He and Davis were laboring in every fucking inning, that game took way too long.
And as a Sox fan, I feel pissed off because we could have traded Brian Anderson instead of Chris Young in order to get Vasquez. If Young cuts down on his strikeouts, he could live up to his Ken Griffey Jr-like bill.
