I haven't been playing guitar or singing for very long, I'm mainly a drummer, but music comes out ya know. So, here are 4 tunes, 2 instrumentals and 2 actual songs with lyrics on my myspace page. I hope you like them, if you don't I'm sorry. Let me know what ya think!

i like the instrumentals. the vocals as you probably know need alot of work. your a drummer though so lets hear some drums

Bohrman26
10-04-2007, 07:19 PM
Thank you! Yeah, the vocals do need a lot of work. What's bad is that what you're hearing is an improvement! I've got one song that has drums through an effect, it's just an instrumental but I don't have my drums with me at college so I can't really record that. I'll up the instrumental with the drums if ya want though. Again, thanks for the response!

I updated my page and put up two new songs. If ya want you can check it out. Thanks.

I'm listening and thinking stuff like "serene... dreamy... hypnotic... beguiling..." It's beautiful. Pretty strong and unique for someone who hasn't been singing or playing guitar for very long. How long exactly? :thumbsup

some good stuff dude

10-14-2007, 11:04 PM
Wow, thank ya'll very much! It means a lot to get any kind of response and it means a lot more when the response is good! I've been teaching myself guitar for maybe like a year and a half now? Maybe 2 years. I don't get to play too terribly much and I still don't consider myself that good. Yeah, a lot of the stuff is serene and dream sequence-esque, that's what I was going for. I feel like I'm limited as far as making giant sound and so if all I can do is minimal, then I thought why not just make instrumentals that put people at ease, cause I'm in college and Christ do I need to just relax at times, and this helps me. Again, I really appreciate ya'll taking the time to listen. I'll be updating it every so often so I'll let ya know whenever I do! If ya wanna add me as a friend (if you're on myspace) that'd be great!

I updated it again with one new song called It's So Much. I like it a whole lot. It's a full song but keeps pace with the melodic feel of the instrumentals. I hope you like it if you check it out and don't be afraid to let me know what ya think! Thanks!

Bohrman26
10-23-2007, 03:37 PM
And yet again I've updated my page with a new instrumental called Washed Away. It's raining here and this kinda fits with that mood. If you happen to check it out, let me know what ya think. I appreciate it.

I feel like I'm frequently posting here to tell of updates, but I guess lately I've been more creative. The newest one is a full song called Drizzled Ground. To me, it's incredibly Radiohead-ish and is pretty dark. I hope ya'll like it and don't feel shy about letting me know what ya think!

Bohrman26

Two new ones put up. An acoustic one called Into Focus and then an ambient one titled Determined Sleeper that is very true to its name. Both are full songs with lyrics and all that jazz. I hope ya'll like them.

just a question but what effects are you using on Days Before Sunlight. i love that sound but have no idea how to make it. :D

i enjoyed.

btw if anyone is interested i do live chat on my webcam for a nominal fee.

I'm assuming you are talking about the first guitar/main riff. It's played on an electric guitar (obviously) with no effects used outside of the software. The software that I use has Flange FX and there are 5 different ones and I chose the 5th one with a little bit of delay and a little bit of reverb. The riff itself is incredibly simple but maksed with all the effects on it it sounds more than it actually is. The other guitar parts on it (which are two other ones) used simple delay and reverb on one and the other used a BOSS Volume Pedal exteriorly of the software and then once recorded I used simple delay and reverb using the software preset FX. The software I have is called M-Audio. It's incredibly easy to setup and use. It does take some time to get completely familiar with it and I am still finding out new things with it. I'm not sure how expensive it is cause it was a present I got for Christmas. I don't think it was too expensive though. As for the song itself, those are the effects for the guitars and then for the cymbal ride I just put a bit of delay on that and the piano has delay and reverb. My voice has reverb on it but that's it. As you can probably tell, I am in love with reverb and delay, I just think it's awesome. I hope that has answered your question!

11-06-2007, 10:54 AM
I like the new songs, Rob! You have a rich, unique sound. I still like Days Before Sunlight the best. It's beautiful and it sounds like it segues out of Over the Hills and Far Away.

How do you classify your music? Some songs are very new age and some are more folk. I don't usually like a lot of new age except for Enya, but I really like yours. :thumbsup

Bohrman26
11-06-2007, 02:09 PM
Thank you so much hylidaea and chr35919! It does mean a whole lot. Hmm, I had never thought about Days Before Sunlight coming from Over The Hills...but you are right! It does sound like it could come straight from there.

I have no idea how to classify my music. The acoustic songs I would just label as acoustic pop, but I hope not the bubblegum pop. As far as the instrumentals, whenever I make those I am heavily influenced by Sigur Ros and Radiohead, more Sigur Ros though. Seeing as there is only one of me to make all the sound and I am not nearly as talented as Sigur Ros, what comes out is my best imitation of them. So, I guess I could be labeled as acoustic/ambient? Maybe? I'm not real sure how I could label it, I just make stuff that I like and find soothing. Feel free to slap whatever label ya want on me though! Again, thank you for the feedback, it is very very nice to read.

I agree, ambient is a much better description.

Bohrman26
11-11-2007, 03:02 PM
New song has been put up titled Silent Raindrops. It's keeping with the ambient feeling and is almost sad but it's also comforting so it's not a complete downer of a song. I hope ya'll like it if you so choose to listen to it.

hylidaea
11-11-2007, 04:03 PM
It's nice, Rob. More somber than the others, though. A whole different mood in this one, but just as calming and pretty as the rest.

I really don't know who cares on here anymore, or who listens but there is a new song titled Relapse that I've uploaded. Come and check it out if you'd like too. I really like it (with all of my songs) and I hope you'll come check it out and like it too!

Bohrman26

New one titled Eyes Are Mindful has been put up. It's a stream of conciousness song, that I have been tending to like these days. The song just builds on itself until the end. I hope ya'll like it if you choose to check it out!

Bohrman26
11-29-2007, 05:09 PM
Yet, again, I've updated my page with a new instrumental titled Unknown Path. It's a pretty piece that fits autumn weather. Got a mix of guitar, piano, and strings in there. Hope ya'll like it!

I'm right here. Good timing, Axel. :hug

Rob, I listened to Eyes Are Mindful the other day and totally forgot to come back and reply to you. I can't play it from here, but I remember that I liked it, but I would like it better as an instrumental. Your vocals in the other songs were great, but this one didn't grab me except for the music. I'll listen to the new one tonight. :)

I like that you put new songs up every few days. It's a nice pace.

VanHorneDog

It's been a bit since I've posted anything, but that comes with final exams. A new song has been posted titled Across The Sky and it's really pretty. Piano and string laden. Very mellow. Oh, I also saw that I titled one of the songs wrong here. It's Path Unknown, not the other way around. Anyway, check it out and I hope you like it if you do!

Bohrman26

Alright, again it's been quite a while since posting a new song. I've got a new instrumental put up titled Sleeping Outside. One of my dogs pasted away the day after my birthday (December 29th) and I dedicate this song to him. I know that may sound odd but I've had him since I was in 2nd grade and I'm 22 years old now, so that's quite a while to have a pet and plenty of time to get completely attached to them. I hope you like the song, I think it's very pretty.

New song titled Lights Under Water. As the title suggests, it's meant to feel like you're underwater. If you decided to check it out, let me know what ya think and I hope ya'll like it!

hylidaea
01-28-2008, 06:04 PM
Rob, it's beautiful. The vocal chanting (sounds like anyway) clutters it up and takes away from it, though. Under that, the music is beautiful. Perfect song title, too.

Thank you! I tried to get the vocals to be at a low enough level (volume wise) and put effects on it to where it's just another sound. I'm sorry that you feel it clutters it up, maybe I'll go back in and re-work some of the stuff to help it out. Thank you for the feedback though!

Bohrman26
01-28-2008, 07:36 PM
Ya know, you're actually right and I did go in and touch it up so the vocals don't take anything away from it (in my opinion). I'll post the newer version and take a listen!

Wow......I don't even know what to say. That is the nicest compliment I have ever received. Thank you so much, it really does mean a whole lot to me. It's very nice to know that people just take the time to at least listen to your music, and then to know that they really like it is just a feeling I can't explain. Again, thank you so much and I will try to continue putting out music that you all enjoy as much as I do. Thank you.

New tune titled Flurries has been posted. It's meant to make you feel like you're in a snow covered place, hence the title. It's just an instrumental with a little vocal sounds here and there, no lyrics though. I hope ya'll like it!

I don't know if you've heard of a band named Mew, but you sound a lot like them with that sort of airy/ambient feeling in your songs. You should check them out. The reason I brought them up was due to the fact that this song sounds like the outro to their song "Circuitry of the Wolf".

But again, great work Rob. :thumbsup:thumbsup

I'll be sure to check out the other two songs later.

A new one has been added titled Whirlwind Lullaby. Check it out and I hope you like it! Notice the word lullaby....that's the feeling you're going to get out of it. Or, at least that is what I went for. However it makes you feel, though, is up to you.

Hi all. I'm new here to the forum, but a long time DMB fan. Since people seem to be sharing their own music, I thought it would be fun to do the same.

Here's a cover I did of Warehouse:

On a slow life, you might want to make a transition to the second part sooner. 45 seconds was a long time. otherwise i'm diggin it.

healing life with sound- love the title. i like that this one kind of paints a picture in my head...of nature or whatever. sometimes there's some space between chords that is a little longer than other times and it's a little distracting. i see where you meant to do it for musical purposes but other times it sounds like a mistake. so watch out for that.

i listened to some of a few others. i like your stuff. super chill. yay!

Yeah, I agree about A Slow Life. I recorded that one over a year ago. I wasn't too good at transitioning when needed. I have gotten better at it and I think it shows a lot in the new stuff if you compare it to the older stuff.

I'm not exactly sure where in the song Healing Life With Sound you are talking about these spaces between chords. I'm glad it paints a picture in your head! That's what I go for in the majority of my music.

Well, I'm glad you like my music! And I truly do appreciate the critique. Thanks for taking the time to check my music out!

Good stuff, Rob. I like your drum work on Weathered and Sunny Winter. A style similar to mine in that a steady 2+4 is almost never satisfying :lol Keep up the good work.

Thanks Andy! Haha, yeah I mean I like a solid groove when it's needed, but I like to create music that has a bit more involved drums. But, that's because I'm mainly a drummer :D

Weathered has one of my favorite drum pieces. It creates a pace with the interplay of the hats, snare, and bass drums that helps the song really flow and move instead of a waltz rhythm that could've been there.

Hello there.

I have added two new songs. For The Last Time, and He Once Was. Both are drum and piano pieces. I enjoy both quite a bit. Please check them out and let me know what ya think! Thanks everyone.

Thank you Alex!

I posted another new tune called Cold Waves. Very ethereal and mellow. Gotta make sure to listen to all of it. There's a bit more of the song after you think it ends.

Just gave a listen sounds cool, sounds like Pacman at the beginning of that first song before the actual music begins. Is the guitar supposed to be out of tune (or are my ears out of tune:D). Otherwise nice work.

Probably the guitar. I don't know how to tune guitars so mine is in a funky tuning.

Like Pacman? Haha, I've never heard that one. How so?

I appreciate you listening and glad ya liked it!

Very cool, pretty tense song - I like that it doesn't seem to focus too heavily on the tonic. I wish I could find a musician like you in my area that needed a good drummer...

I appreciate the kind words! Yeah, I live and die by multi-layering songs ha. Again, thanks for the kind words and I'm glad you like it.

As you can probably tell, I'm a drummer first before guitar or piano.

So I was thinking, seeing as how you're a drummer and all...maybe we could do a little collaboration type of thing. I've got a couple songs I've written and would love to get some more instruments into them, as I just play guitar and sing...would you mind taking a listen and seeing if you'd be interested in laying down some drum tracks? Who knows, maybe we can start an am.org band, lol
