no thread yet so im making one.
they looked good in their first pre-season game...
garnett, pierce, and allen all played over 30 minutes and contributed nicely.
garnett had 19 points and 17 boards, pierce had 21.
should be a good year!

I say the Charlotte Hornets will. (Mugsy, Kelly Tripuka, Kenny Gattison, JR Reid, Dell Curry).

You have three players, no point, no center, and an idiot coaching your team, sure, you'll make the playoffs in the east, but you're not beating the Bulls, you're not beating the Pistons, and you're not beating Bron Bron, so what's the point of getting excited?

cavaliers did just that last year. bron bron and no one else. varejo.ha.z.ha.hughes.ha!
and anderson is a smart coach? his time out decisions were horrible. east is wide open as always.

I think Rondo will end up being a pretty solid point guard.
Not an all-star, but he can manage the team just fine.

What's the over/under on combined games played for those three this year???
160???
Those guys are old, and Pierce and Allen don't play D.
Pistons, Bulls, Cavs are the class of the East. And please don't compare Bron Bron to any of your guys.

76 games for Garnett (he's the best, but his milage is up there)
55 for Allen
47 for Pierce.
That's 178, and they are all a year older.

We won't know until they actually start playing. Although less than a Finals appearance - I would agree with you.
Any Celtics fan out there? Seems like they traded half their bench for Garnett, do they have capable supporting players?

I agree with you on the fact that they are old.
Pierce is only 30 though, so he isn't that old.
I think we have a 2-3 year window to win with these guys, after that its a wash.
I think Ainge had to do something though, and he went with the "win now" philosophy.

Pierce should play in anouther 20+ games this year
The young guys learned alot last year when he was not playing
the Celtics should be at least the 4th seed in the east
cruscott35

The Cavs aren't going anywhere if they can't get Varejao and Pavlovic signed, and that's not looking good right now.
Detroit's another year older as well, and I'm not sure Flip is a guy who can get them to play at a championship level. The Pistons aren't exactly fantastic in the front court either. Sheed is still Sheed, but Mohammed isn't any better than Perkins at this point in his career and McDyess ages in dog years.
Chicago is still a post player away from being considered a team that is better than the Celtics. Deng should be an All-Star this year, but they don't have a single player who is effective down on the block.
Meanwhile, few teams in the NBA have two elite defenders (Garnett and Rondo) and three guys with the ability to play at an All-Star level. Yes, the Celtics are thin and yes Doc Rivers is coaching them, but they will be right in the mix this year.
cruscott35
10-09-2007, 02:46 PM
I actually don't see Detroit having a problem this year...Nazr isn't going to play, they are going to go small most the time, I think.
Dice will start and I expect Maxiell to get plenty of PT this year. Sheed is money when he wants to be. Everyone in the league has a boner for Amir Johnson, saying that if he had went to college, he would've been a top 5 pick in the draft.
People are talking like Stuckey was the steal of the draft...It's like we got two top 10 draft picks to a team that underachieved last year....GO PISTONS.
SoRight24
10-09-2007, 02:53 PM
The Celtics will definitely be a factor this year.
Sorry if that upsets you cruscott, and your Pistons.
UNC41
10-09-2007, 02:56 PM
The Pistons still aren't a team suited to playing the kind of ball Flip coaches. Stuckey and Maxiell are players in that direction, but I still don't think he's the right guy for that team.
Also, if you're going to cite games played as the measuring tool of whether or not guys are going to stay healthy it's worth nothing that Billups, Rip and Sheed have less than one season of fewer experience than Boston's trio. And that's just regular season games. Those guys all have more tread on their tires than the guys in Boston do as well. It's interesting how you haven't brought up how this could impact Detroit ...
cruscott35
10-09-2007, 04:24 PM
Garnett: 35k minutes
Allen: 30k minutes
Pierce 24k minutes
Billups: 21k
Hamilton: 20k
Wallace: 29k
Dice: 20k
That's why I say that.

Most Celtics fans are fans, they are just quiet about it. I have some Celtics tee shirts and whatnot lying around that I wear, but I guess Celtics fans are the opposite of, say, eagles fans.
We haven't won shit in, like, 20 years, so we aren't going to run our mouths :lol

This quote should be added to the definition of a fair weather fan. I'm just pointing out that I think it's lame that all these fans come out of the wood work but probably couldn't name three players for lets say the 2005 roster. And now all of a sudden they're super excited about being a Celtics fan.

I realize why fans would be excited, I personally think they've got to be in the top two in the East easily. Their bench might be questionable but with that starting lineup they're going to be running over most of the east and unfortunately it's another formidable team that my Magic have to deal with. Hopefully Lewis can provide 25 a game because he sure as hell is getting paid for it. And anyone who says Garnett is too old is fool, that man is a freak and I preferred him in the west.

Well if you apply to that school of thought it shouldn't have even been close considering all the free throws the Magic missed. I'll never understand how professional athletes can be so terrible at free throws, I mean they're called FREE throws for a reason.

I gotta lose that bet first. ;)
I am wickedly busy for the rest of the week. I have to finish making cookies to give to the folks I work for Christmas. A friend is coming over to exchange presents tonight. Tomorrow night is more baking and going to the gym. Friday night is a Christmas party with friends in NH. Saturday is the Ants meet up. :monkey Sunday is church, gym, pilates and football. Then Monday I leave for Missouri. Phew, I'm tired just typing all that!!
I suppose I'll have to check on the Celtics game at points tonight though.

what a dumb play they ran at the end of the game. Why did Pierce shoot with still almost 2 seconds on the clock? I don't understand why he didn't go to the basket and try to get fouled and kill another second off the clock. The worst that could have happen is he missed the lay up and it goes to overtime. I think the ball should have been in Garnetts hands at that point.

yeah bad call to go to garnett. but what was that one guy thinking when he jumped up to block billup's shot. celtics should win that game, but they are also needing to play better.s

Much better the second time around against Orlando. Since being down 20 in the third quarter of their first match-up, the Celtics have outscored the struggling Magic by 30. Hope they can keep rolling through the next 4 out west.

If the Pistons beat them twice in a week, do you think the C's fans will finally give up their delusions of being the best team in the East?

Nobody is contesting that. It's hilarious how you refuse to give the Celtics any credit at all. First it was they can't beat elite East teams. And once they beat Orlando you say wait and see what happens on their first West Coast road swing. Then, when they win all four of those games you say, "well yeah, but it's not even their toughest West Coast trip of the year ... "
Neither team has played a particularly tough schedule thus far, yet you seem to only acknowledge that Boston hasn't faced a bunch of world beaters. When it all comes down to it Boston is 4-0 against Western Conference teams that would make the playoffs if the season ended today, while Detroit is 3-2. It wouldn't surprise me to see either team come out of the East, but your refusal to give Boston any credit at all is downright laughable.

Agreed, but I think if you talk to someone who is knowledgeable about NBA basketball, who has no emotional attachment to either team, they'll say that the Pistons are the overall better team.
I've never said the C's aren't good, just that I can't see them winning the East and that outside of the Big 3 they are crap.

I dont know how you CANT see them winning the east..do I think they are goin to? No... Could i see it? Yes, I could see it, they lost to the pistons by 2 foul shots.....pistons are better but you have to bea fool to say you cant see it.
and outside the big three, they arent "crap". However, outside Jordan/Pippen/Rodman, you could make the same argument...apparently, a team of 5 superstars is not required to win int he nba...

No you couldn't make the same argument. BJ Armstrong/Paxon >>>> Rondo
Cartwright >>>> Perkins
Grant >>>> Davis.
I know I'm getting my Bulls teams all mixed up, but my point is there is a significant drop off in talent on the C's that most other contenders don't have as severely.

and not to mention..paxson and armstrong werent on those teams either..........
and i disagree....rondo is really stepping up..
i cant believe im arguing for a boston team right now..
