Food for thought: Why does everyone give so much compassion to Favre about his father passing away?
He's a grown fucking man.

I think the thing with fathers dying is a lot of people forget that athletes are relatively young men and it's sad to lose parents that early in life. If I remember right Favre's father was in his 50s when he died...

cause it's Brett Favre and they need to talk about something. Brett is a winner, so basically his past couple of losing seasons are never to be mentioned by a commentator

He went out and had one of the greatest games of all time the night after losing his father, his best friend, and the man who taught him everything. Your post is like saying why do we still talk about the Immaculate Reception. That game is one of the greatest moments in football history.

i dont think the NHL will, its becuase they arent trying. they are focusing on seats and not viewers. while the NFL and MLB knows that a buzz about a team and the revenue it creates comes from TV.
they need to get NHL back onto a major network everyone has and get some stars everyone can follow. that may be the biggest problem

Amen. ESPN needs to get Thursday Night Hockey back, not because it will give them ratings, but only because they need to play a part in helping to bring this sport back to the forefront. I love hockey, but when there are no games to watch, it makes it difficult to truly follow the league for a year.
Look at baseball, any given week, there are at least five national games on, including fox and espn. Then you have your local teams, so for me, I can watch the Mets, Yankees, and Braves(on TBS :lol) on top of ESPN and FOX games.

i wouldn't say they didn't try. I'm sure they wanted to get back onto ESPN, but ESPN didn't want it. They knew the ratings were bad and after a lockout, they weren't gonna go back to hockey.
This is why they went to the stupid VS network (originally Outdoor Network). This is the final year of their contract as well. It has to go back to ESPN. Once ESPN has a sport, they will broadcast highlights and start talking about it again. That's why no one knows hockey exists, even Sportscenter ignores it. They don't want people watching sports that don't belong to them. So, I think ESPN will get hockey back. If not another possibility is TBS. They are trying very hard to become a true national network. They have original shows, they got NBA, MLB (unfortunately), they have golf, I think they still have a few NASCAR races. So, if they got hockey, they would be some solid competition for ESPN. Or the USA network, I think they want more sports besides the U.S. Open and WWE.
So Hockey will probably go elsewhere. The attendence is up, and just like any sport if there are big market teams competeting, people will watch. It's not a sport that people will watch any team (except for me). It just needs to get off the VS network and actually go to a respectabul networtk

i don't think he'll get fired, but he will retire. There's nothing else that he could do. He's won world series, he's been manager of the year, he's the second most winning Yankee manager, he's one of the best managers of all-time, he's gonna be a hall of fame manager, he'll get his number retired by the yankeees, he doesn't need to do anything else.
I would be very happy if he retired cause I don't want to see him fired, but I would like to see someone else try to manage this team

i'm an alum myself, but still live in the area. it's a pretty big deal down here. and yes, i think they're legit. zook is in his third year and his recruiting is starting to show. mendenhall and benn are the real deal. if mendenhall keeps it up, he could be in talks for heisman come the end of the year. the defense has been solid behind leman. qb is a little bit of an issue, seeing as how neither can really pass that well, but they haven't needed to. if you want to jump on, now is the time. should win @ iowa this week, which sets up a huge home game against michigan on the 20th. it's pretty fun having a good team, seeing as how when i was in school they sucked balls.

is Ohio State the only real worry in the Big Ten this year? are people thinking Rose Bowl down there....or at least a major bowl?

well, yeah, they're thinking rose bowl. but they're also complete homers.
mendenhall is a junior. and michigan could still be trouble. as long as illinois doesn't trip up against iowa, the only games they could lose are michigan and @ ohio st. and i'm willing to bet they lose the ohio st. game, but they have been known to give the buckeyes some trouble in the past.
