i disagree..it seems like that now because that's all he talks about but when basketball starts up he'll talk basketball. he knows his stuff.

I think he's awful. ESPN Radio doesn't have anyone I want to listen to since DP left.

I agree. I liked it much better when Tony had his slot. Luckily with XM I can still get Kornheiser when he does his morning show in DC.

Edit: I do like VanPelt. I would have prefered if he had gotten DP's entire time slot instead of guesting with Turico (sp?).

Van Pelt's Stephen A. Smith impression is unbelievable. it's right on.

I like him, but I only get to listen to his first segment, then Spanning the Globe. Then I get to school. I have no clue what goes on during the rest of his show.

Yeah, I like the dude...He never holds back, and that’s what I like, sometimes. It's tough to find a guy who gives it to you straight in the media now-a-days.

He's actually about to have Matt Ryan on later, this AM...and his "Daily Football Fix," which is always $$$...:thumbsup

just talking to a friend the other day about his co-worker, Colin Cowherd.

Here's the deal: He's a great radio guy. Absolutely. He knows how to do a radio show. He's like Limbaugh or Jim Rome in the fact that they are pro's when it comes to doing radio.

But I wouldn't put any stock in anything he says: He's just a radio guy. He's trying to keep an audience. He contradicts himself constantly, the best example was his 'football picks' against the line: he didn't go by the real line, just what he thought the line should be. He really doesn't know a hell of a lot about anything (that's the word around ESPN as well), but he's fantastic at doing radio.

I like listining to him... in fact I generally listen to him when I'm on the road travelling for most of his time slot... that ass clown Michael Irvin takes over during the last hour, but other than that I enjoy him... don't always agree with him, but he is entertaining... and he makes fun of OSU, which is always a plus in my book

After listeing to Cowherd for a week a few years ago, I was convinced I could become a heroin addict with a speech problem who read SI once a week, and still have a more entertaining show then him. He seems that his only sports knowledge is from notes he just read, he is always trying to shock the audience with either things that are not shocking or make no sense, and he steals material from other people. Just moved to Houston, where Sports Talk is not the highest quality but I'd take it over Cowherd any day.

I've got the national FSR feed through XM. And, I haven't heard anything. maybe your local station picks it up. Thanks for the link, I'll have to see what I find.

Edit: Yea!!!!!!! He's on 144. SWEEEEET!!! Even if I am usually at work when he's on that's ok.

As much as I dislike listening to Cowherd he has a very hard job. It's much easier to seem interesting doing a local show, because your audience is tuned in to hear about what you will be talking about. No matter how important it may be to some people I do not care about a Yankess/Red Sox series in April or Indiana's search for a new head coach. DP and Rome are great at what they do because I will tune in and stay tuned in no matter what they are talking about.

here's a perfect example of what I said earlier -

on 4.15, Cowherd makes the statement that big men bust all the time in the NBA draft, whereas you couldn't name 5 point guards in the last 10 years that have busted.

A caller * names about 11 in 20 seconds destroying his theory (Jayson Williams, DeJuan Wagner, Sabastian Telfair, Livingstone, etc). Cowherd throws out the 'injury caviat', and goes back to pounding his original theory without bringing up the PG theory again.

* I suspect from what I've heard is that his producers don't like him much either, so they're letting in more 'negative' calls in than they ever did before.

he's just a DJ, people. He's just spinning callers and topics, instead of records

I think he's good radio that's all. I laugh during his show at least once a day. As been said above, all he knows is football and when he tries to talk about other sports he falls apart. (I.E. his point guard theory)

The majority of callers to a national radio program aren't on par "knowledge wise" with the host. In fact they're down right dumb. And when they try and argue with the host, usually the caller is left embarrassed. And the few times that the caller is right, they're cut off. Colin does this, but so does everybody else.
