Where's the option for 'stupid decision to put his head in the way of a DL's knee, does he have a death wish'?

I would have picked "stupid veteran move" had that been an option.

QB's trying to block downfield looks about as stupid as a kicker trying to throw the ball on a botched snap. i don't think it was dirty, i just don't think he knew what the hell he was doing...

Clearly he was trying to get his shoulder into it, but he's not used to throwing that kind of block...My buddy is adamant that it's a cheap shot, and I said not til it's illegal.

Just posted this on the NFL thread.
WTF :freak
Alright, after T. Green was laid out by an (accidental) knee from Texans' DT Travis Johnson while attempting a legal crackblock, Mr. Classy T. Johnson proceeds to
"As Green lay motionless, with any fan of the game flashing back to his horrific 2006 concussion, Johnson, enraged by the block because he never saw it coming, sprinted over to Green and began shouting at him. He got a 15-yard flag for taunting, and my guess is he'll get another little gift in the mail early this week from the league office -- a $5,000 fine. After the game, Johnson continued his barrage on a man whose health was still very much in question. "It was a malicious hit,'' Johnson said. "He wants to get courage while I wasn't looking ... If you want to hit me, hit me in my head, hit me in my chest, don't hit me in my knee. I'm trying to eat just like everybody else. To hit me like that showed me what type of man he was.''
I understand his concern about getting injured. I understand defensive players' concerns about this blocking tactic but to start shouting at an unconscious player is a bit out of line. He outweighs Green by 100 lbs., what did he expect Green to do; again it was a legal tactic. Green was just trying to do his job while not getting killed - claiming he had a malicious intent was just ludicrous.
If he doesn't like the rules - go the Player's assc. or something like that. Yelling at an unconscious player ......:ugh

If it was a cheap shot, don't you think the refs would have thrown a flag?

No, just a dumbass move on his part.
And let me say I am loving this sports forum, we can now start threads like this, which we couldn't do before. :thumbsup

It was a stupid decision, but it wasn't cheap.
The DT would have laid out Green if he had the chance on a turnover.

A dumb move, but not a cheap shot. I cringe whenever Favre pulls shit like that. He's thankfully toned it down over the past couple seasons.

On the ground motionless. I think his ego was just bruised that he got up-ended by one of the weakest QB's in the NFL.

when are cut blocks legal?
edit: and johnson didn't know he was unconscious. i don't see how he was taunting in the first place, even if green was conscious. dude was pissed because some little shit almost ruined his career on a legal cheapshot.

Anytime not at the line of scrimmage.

really? in high school the only time they were legal was at the line of scrimmage within two steps of the snap.

And in high school you only need one foot in bounds, and if one team is leading by more than 35 points the clock doesn't stop.
Anytime not at the line of scrimmage.
Or as long as the defensive player is not engaged with another player.

Whenever there is a big time open field collision involving a big time name their is controversy. Green showed some serious balls/stupidy, and Johnson over reacted.
Shit like this happens every game, but it usually involves two special teams guys that no one cares about.

well, the example i used wasn't just a variation of the rules between different levels, it was the complete opposite ruling. but thanks for being condescending :thumbsup

I think what Trent Green was clean, he just didn't know what he was doing.
As for what the idiot for the Texans did, I think he should be fined or suspended. Standing over a guy half your size and taunting him while he's unconcious is A LOT worse than some of the things T.O. or Chad Johnson have done in celebrating TD's...but I'm a Dolphins fan :lol

It's just not in good taste. What if Hixon had gotten up and taunted Everett?
Probably wouldn't be returning kicks for the Bronco's anymore...

Exactly...something should happen to him is all I'm saying. If nothing else the coach should at least bench him for a game. A 15 yard penalty isn't enough.

I'd be really surprised if he came back...it's the same type of concussion he had last year.

I'm well aware. I was just using that same type of situation as an example. No one should think that was a dirty hit in the least. Just saying it's not really a good idea to taunt an unconscious player.

so green is done with football now?
For his sake, I hope so.
That's two major concussions (plus with the NFL, I doubt they catch all the other "little ones") - which if he comes back, just incr. his likelihood of suffering another one.
He's young (relatively speaking) - I could never understand why anyone would risk their future health for 1-3 more years of football.

I don't think he was taunting him. He was telling him it was a dirty hit.
I don't think it was right, but if the DT gets hurt Green looks like a bad guy who took a cheap shot.
I understand both sides.

It was not a cheap shot. You also used the wrong terminology. A "chop block" is when a blocker is engaged with a defender and you come and cut down the defender below the knees. It's cooperative and usually the defender has no idea that another blocker is about to take out his legs. This was a "cut block" which is when you take a guy low because he has a massive size advantage over you. I'm sure Trent just didn't know what he was doing...he's probably not used to be a lead blocker.
EDIT: A chop is illegal...a cut is legal.

What he supposed to do? Take a 320 pound lineman on up top? If a QB is going to block a D-Lineman he has to go low.

where is the "stupid" option?
trent green knows better, you dont go diving head first (especially with his history) into a play. it was a valiant effort, but his team needs him more as a quarterback and not as a blocker. he should have ran over and pushed the guy or tried to body block him.
