well, just did some quick research: http://www.baseball-reference.com/postseason/1998_NLCS.shtml

Turner field capacity is 50,000

in game one of the 98 nlcs only 42,000 showed and in game 2 only 43,000 showed. finally, in game six they sold out. that's pretty weak.

baseball is actually the most popular than it's ever been. arizona just isn't a huge baseball market. it is sad that there are still 8K tickets still available, granted it's a pretty large stadium, but how many people can honestly say that they know a die hard dback fan? i mean, it's not like other teams, that have been passed down throughout families. it's not like you can say, i love the dbacks because my great grandfather was a huge fan.

now, the rockies are in a baseball market. their fans love them. it's all about placement. much like the d-rays, they are talking about moving that team to dallas.....or vegas. florida in general isn't a baseball market, for whatever reason.

in september, when the d-rays were at the nationals, there were 347 people in attendance. there are more people at high school football games.

Florida and Arizona are both big areas for transplants from other states. a large % of people that live in these areas already have strong ties to some of the northeastern and midwest teams.

Arizona has a large population of folks who grew up back east and still love their teams. Franchises with long-established road fanbases (the Cubs, Mets, Cardinals, Red Sox, Yankees, and Dodgers are good examples of this) help fill the house there. (As was seen during both Cubs playoff games this season.)

The Rockies don't have a road fanbase that's large enough to pick up the slack.

If the D'Backs get into the WS and face the Red Sox, you'll see sellouts similar to the games they had against the Cubs...:thumbsup

in relation to this, why the hell would they put "d-backs" on their home uniforms? i think it's stupid as hell. they're the diamondbacks. "d-backs" is a name that the media/fans have used to refer to them. to put it into perspective, that would be like the cubs putting "cubbies" on their uniform, or the yankees using "yanks"...the red sox using "bosox". maybe i'm just being ridiculous, but i think it's dumb.

:BitterCubsFan :(

thats why whenever i go to see a game there and they say "thanks to the best fans in baseball" i go

"BULL SHIT!"

i was at the last game of Luis Gonzalez's career there. by far the most favorite ball player there. everyone knew it was his last game.

since it was the padres chance to clinch the west the stadium was bout 2/3 full and more than half of that was Padres Fans.

thats just sad. sure i can understand a lot of padres fans, but you cant even send off your all time best player with at least 50% capacity of your own fans? pathetic.

i know Tony Gwynn left with about a full house in one of the worst Padres seasons ever and that was before Petco, that was qualcom with 63,000 seats.

D'bags fans are pathetic and need to have their world series they bought taken back. they dont deserve it.

Phoenix is not a Baseball city.

Anyways, I'm pumped for tomorrow. I still don't know who I want to win. I just want both teams to show up all 7 games and have some fun. Tomorrow should be a great pitching battle, however. The rest of the series should be a shootout.

Arizona Diamondback fans suck.

Go absolutely silent for 7 innings of the biggest game your team has had in 6 years. Then go apeshit over a good call at second base, and embarrass the NL West by throwing stuff out on the field and delaying the game.

This team is too good for their fans.

D-Backs not getting timely hits, hopefully they'll pick it up. Colorado has been excellent on most cylinders. I still think it'll be a long series, but I wouldn't be surprised with a sweep. At this rate the Rockies can STILL get better. Tomorrow with the more inconsistent starting pitchers, it should be wild.

not that i am defending their fans, but tbs is notorious for not miking up the crowd properly (probably because braves fans never make any noise to begin with). the rockies/padres game was the same. you could tell the rockies fans were going apeshit but if they didn't show shots of the stands you would have thought they were marginally interested. bottom line is tbs sucks.
