The easiest way to convert files for downloading dave shows:
Download a Torret program ( I reccommend Bit Comet)
Download a torrent. Usually .FLAC files.
Download FLAC Frontend and Decode your FLAC files into .wav files
Download MKW Audio Compression Toolkit (Free program - just search it on google)
Drag your .wav files while holding the control key into MKW Audio Compression Toolkit and viola! You have your .wav into mp3's!!

if you want to play your shows in a cd player, dont bother with converting to wav. or any programs. just download burrrn. its free and comes with codecs to burn flac, shn, ape, wav, ogg, etc.. so you can play them in any cd, player. been using it for a year now, and use it for burning shows. its very easy to use and automaticly burns at once which means it doesnt but any blank space inbetween songs unless the songs already have that space. burns better than nero if burned at 2x, but with nero you can do alot more.

Here is Mac OSX info:
The following app can transcode from just about any format to any other format, and it does it speedily and easily, let's you do big batches of files at once, etc. Has a nice interface, very customizable.
Great for converting SHN/FLAC > mp3.
Program is called 'Max' - here's the link:
http://sbooth.org/Max/
For simple playing of FLAC files (plus many other audio/video formats) on Mac, I recommend the open source, stable, and lightweight VLC:
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
Edit - others may recommend xact for mac. It works, but is rather clunky and slow in my experience. The above mentioned programs are light years ahead of xact in terms of functionality, speed, and presentation.

So would I be able to use Nero to burn my FLAC files onto a CD? Would it have separate tracks so I could skip ahead to songs I want like normal? I downloaded a show and it just showed up as one single FLAC file...I guess I don't know how these things work...

Once you download winamp, how do you play a show you've downloaded? I used uTorrent. I'm new to this process.

Download FLAC Frontend just google it and add the .flac files and just hit decode. This will turn them into .wav files. Then download another free program called Shuang's .wav to mp3 converter, just google it as well and you will have your mp3's ready to rock anywhere you want!

Once you convert the show from FLAC to wav then to mp3, is it possible to put the songs on an iPod? Is there another step I would have to do?

I dont have an ipod but I do have a Zen which is made by creative labs. I just plug it into my computer and drag the mp3 files onto my mp3 player! I am assuming that whatever way you get your songs onto the ipod u should just be able to drag and drop them into it.

I'm VERY new at this as well...I downloaded 2 shows using BitTorrent. However, they will not play. I've downloaded FLAC frontend also, but how do I get the torrents onto FLAC? Sorry for the seemingly basic question.

I don't know if this will work or not, but I hit the same problem you did with Vista. According to tradersden.org and the site for this file, traderslittlehelper should work. here's a link to trader's den and their link to the file. hope it helps.

I am somewhat new to this as well and have been reading a lot of threads but getting confused. I figured out how to d/l and play flac (finally) but I'm wondering if I can also d/l and play a .shn file?
I downloaded "winamp" and then d/l a file from here (flac) using azur/vuze (which I've used before plenty of times). Plays/works great. Will winamp also play .shn files? And can I convert to mp3 with winamp (to use on ipod)? Please help/explain. Thanx in advance, all u guys are great!!

I am by no means an expert on trading and software related to trading, but I do not know of any software that will play a .shn file as is. I believe they must be converted. See the post I put up, about two above this one, for a converter that will work for .shn, .flac, etc. This one allows you to decode flac/shn files into .wav and will convert the .wav files into .mp3 files as well. It does indeed work well for vista, something many other programs do not do well. Hope this helps.

ANYONE NEEDING HELP WITH DOWNLOADING TORRENTS, THEN CONVERTING THEM TO MP3...
1. First, you need to download a program that will allow you to download the specific torrent you want. I used utorrent to download the torrent I wanted. Just go on google search and type in download utorrent to get this program.
Whatever file (for example, My Documents) you download your torrent program in is where you can find all your flac. files. All my flac. files were in My Documents under Downloads. That's probably where yours will end up. JUST MAKE SURE that when you're downloading your torrent program (utorrent) and winamp, that you save them under My Documents. That's what I did, and it worked for me.
2. You need to download Winamp. Just go on google and type in winamp download.
3. To convert the flac files to mp3's, I used this website: http://www.simplehelp.net/2006/08/14/how-to-convert-flac-files-to-mp3-using-windows/
This site helped me with EVERYTHING. This is a step by step site that helps you convert your flac. files to MP3. It made everything really easy to do. BY THE WAY, DON'T worry about downloading the Flac with library support plug-in (http://www.winamp.com/plugins/details.php?id=143614) for Winamp (even though the site I gave you says to do it), I tried and it didn't work for me. But it turned out that I didn't need it anyway.
Everything on here should work just fine. Just make sure you use the site I gave in step 3, I couldn't have done anything without it.

I know some people have already posted some solutions to this question but I figured I'd share what I do to convert .flac files to .wav and then transfer them to iTunes for easy transfer to my iPod. First off, I am really bad with all of the recent internet trading stuff and a lot of internet jargon gets me confused. With that said this process was very easy to figure out for me and should help anybody new to BitTorrents.
1. Download a BitTorrent program (whatever is easiest for you to figure out, for simplicity I got the original BitTorrent ver. 6.0.3) and Winamp (I have ver. 5.54). Both are free
2. Click on link to download the files. If it's a DMB concert it will most likely be a .flac file.
3. Specify where to save. I used the desktop which I know find was a mistake because if a try to move the file it says I'm no longer uploading and I can't figure out how to resolve yet. So, if you're like me and have a hard time pick somewhere easy to find but also out of the way.
4. After the files are done downloading I go into the new folder with the .flac files and I create a new folder within for my .wav files.
5. Open Winamp. Click Options. Click Preferences. On the left side menu click on Output under the Plug-Ins tree. On the right the plug-in Nullsoft DirectSound Output should be highlighted. Click on the plug-in directly above it that says Nullsoft Disk Writer.
6. Next click on configure on the bottom of that window. On the top left of the new window you will see Output File Location. This is the folder where the .wav files will go. Click the box next to where it says Directory. Then select the folder for you .wav files to go in. (For me that's the new folder in the .flac folder that was just downloaded). Click Ok at the bottom and then close the preferences screen.
7. Back at the winamp player select +Add on the playlist window and Add Folder. Select the folder with the .flac files. When the files load into the playlist click the play button. This will not play the song but will change the file to a .wav and put the new file in the specified output folder.
8. Once all the files are done "playing" (it may take a couple of minutes), open iTunes. In iTunes click File on the top menu and then Add Folder To Library.... Find the folder with your .wav files and click ok. Files will be exported to iTunes.
9. Next click Edit on the menu bar and then click Prefrences. Click on the tab that says Advanced and under that tab click the tab that says Importing. Next to Import Using: it should say AAC Encoder, click this box and change to MP3 Encoder and click ok.
10. Highlight all the new .wav files in the iTunes playlist, right click and select Convert Selection to MP3. Viola!! Just wait and files are ready for synching to iPod. Files will not have artist and album and stuff like that so go through and edit like any other song and you're ready to go.
It may seem lengthy, but it's very simple once you do it the first time and doesn't take that long. I've got 8 shows form this years tour and couple from previous years and haven't had a problem yet.
Good Luck!!!:D

For .shn files download ShnAmp from here
http://etree.org/shnamp.html
ignore what it says about not converting the files in the top box just click on the link that reads
ShnAmp 2.04 (DLL only)
and follow the same steps as above.
OH!!! and after the files are all converted MP3 go ahead and delete the .wav files from the iTunes playlist.
