he plays it the same way its tabbed.actually, all the tab sites i just looked at don't have the way he plays it.
instead of E:----------------------------------
B:----------------------------------
G:-7----4---6---2----4---6---2---4--
D:-x----x---x---x----x---x---x---x--
A:-x----x---x---x----x---x---x---x--
E:-7----3---5---2----3---5---2---3--
isn't it this:

B:----------------------------------
G:-7----4---6---2----4---6---2---4--
D:-9----x---x---4----x---x---4---x--
A:-x----5---7---x----5---7---x---5--

No, he plays it the way the tab sites say.he plays it multiple ways. check out some videos.
edit: and he definitely lets the d string ring sometimes...it's not always muted.

here's one...if you think he's playing just two strings, you're plain wrong

The second one could not be more wrong, he's just muting the strings with the 2 fingers he's not playing with

E:-----------------------------------
B:-----------------------------------
G:--7----4---6---2----4---6---2---4--
D:-(0)--(0)-(0)-(0)--(0)-(0)-(0)-(0)-
A:--x----x---x---x----x---x---x---x--
E:--7----3---5---2----3---5---2---3--
this is probably a bit more accurate on the way Dave plays it

This right here is the right way to play it 100% without a doubt.
E:-----------------------------------
B:-----------------------------------
G:--7----4---6---2----4---6---2---4--
D:-(0)--(0)-(0)-(0)--(0)-(0)-(0)-(0)-
A:--x----x---x---x----x---x---x---x--
E:--7----3---5---2----3---5---2---3--

Yes, this is the right way. The way Dave plays it, his fingerings, make it look like he's playing it a different way, but that is correct.
Minarets#40
10-20-2007, 02:56 PM
as far as fingerings, he uses his index and middle fingers as a pair, and he uses his ring finger and pinky as another pair.
pair A: index & middle
pair B: ring & pinky
E:-----------------------------------
B:-----------------------------------
G:--7----4---6---2----4---6---2---4--
D:-(0)--(0)-(0)-(0)--(0)-(0)-(0)-(0)-
A:--x----x---x---x----x---x---x---x--
E:--7----3---5---2----3---5---2---3--
B A B A A B A B
and the chorus is just: Bm, A, D, G

D:-9----x---x---4----x---x---4---x--
A:-x----5---7---x----5---7---x---5--
E:-7----3---5---2----3---5---2---3-- ??
yeah, that doesnt sound right

it's not THAT easy, but the way Dave plays it is a LOT easieri dunno man, if you can play barre chords, it shouldn't be hard for anyone. but yeah, playing just two strings is always gonna be easier
Minarets#40
10-21-2007, 12:38 PM
actually, yeah on second look it's not exactly what I thought it was... I thought the G and A chords were "Dave chords" (like Two Step) and I saw the Bm and F#m chords correctly, which would have involved making pretty major changes pretty quickly.
seeing it the right way, it's easier than I thought, but I still prefer it the correct way :D

instead of
E:----------------------------------

G:-7----4---6---2----4---6---2---4--
D:-x----x---x---x----x---x---x---x--
A:-x----x---x---x----x---x---x---x--
E:-7----3---5---2----3---5---2---3--
I dont understand the confusion here, this is how he plays it...no other way.
as for the chorus he plays Bm, A, D, and G all the regular style chords.

G:-7----4---6---2----4---6---2---4--
D:-9----x---x---4----x---x---4---x--

he plays the two notes. same ones he uses in Trippin Billies and Too Much and So Damn Lucky and Lie in our Graves and......
icanfeeltherain
10-23-2007, 06:32 PM
he also uses a 12 string to play this one, so it sounds much fuller
Munford
10-23-2007, 07:39 PM
I play like this which I think is right 7x07xx..
I think that the way he plays it may be causing some confusion. I just use two fingers (index and middle) to play and fly around the fretboard playing it. From the video dave doesn't put as much effort into it. When he hits 3x04 he keeps his index and middle on that and uses his ring and pinky finger to hit
5x06xx.. This might be it but just an observation.

and i think you're right about the open D too. i dont know if he always does it, or even intentionally does it, but on some of the SBDs during that song (when the rest of the band isnt playing), you can clearly hear that string being played.

Alright I Just Recently Stared Playing Guitar So This Is A Stupid Question How Do I Mute The Strings In The Chours... And What Is The Strumming Pattern On The Chords? Thanks For The Help
TSilk
11-04-2007, 07:12 PM
why do you want to mute strings in the chorus considering it's just Bm-A-D-G? If you mean the verse if you place your fingers properly on the Low E and G strings you will mute the A and D strings or if that doesnt work out just use the two fingers not forming the chord to mute the other 2 strings
