I searched and didn't find a thread dedicated to the finest professional basketball team in central Florida and my personal favorite, the Orlando Magic. I think we are extremely underrated and could make quite a splash in the east this year. Adding Lewis provides them with a solid scoring threat and I think Dwight is only going to get better. They are definitly lacking big men besides Dwight but I think it's going to be a good year for the Magic. Thoughts?
P.S. I'm thrilled Brian Hill is gone, he truly doesn't deserve to be a NBA head coach. He's the least innovative coach that I've ever seen.

Mavs are better...especially when they pick up Kobe :)

The Magic are off the a great start. Lewis is showing signs of being the go to scorer that they so badly needed. And of course D-12 is a freak of nature. Time will tell if they can stay healthy but if they do I can see them being a 4 or 5 seed.

Nice win tonight, even though they tried to give the game away late. 5-0 on the road, hell of a start.

Is JJ Redick off the team now?

Is JJ Redick off the team now?
I had JJ pegged as possibly a Steve Kerr type player, but it turns out he couldn't even hold Kerr's jock in the NBA.

Sad. Probably one of my favorite players to watch, even back when I was barely a college basketball fan. I can shoot now because of this guy.

No, he's on the team but he's got some suffering from back spasms. I was really optimistic that he was going to be a hell of an asset for the Magic but he's been constantly hurt and when he is healthy he plays zero defense and can't create his own shot.

Unfortunately I have to agree with you on that one. Hopefully he can get healthy and prove himself but it's not looking good so far.

Duke guards just don't make it in the NBA, it's a curse.

Did you ever watch him in college because, if so, you should have expected that.

J.J. really just looks lost when he's on offense. I knew his defense was suspect but I thought he could honestly bring a little more to the table on the offensive side of the ball.

A friend of mine and I was discussing this, to you attribute this to Coach K. or something else?

By his senior year JJ learned how to beat college guards off the dribble, but defenders are so much better in the NBA that someone with his athleticism cannot do it.

It seems he recruits the same type of shooter, whether JJ or Trajon Langdon.

To be fair, Coach K has tons of athletic talent playing the 2 and the 3 this year. Taylor King is a bigger version of what you are describing, but that's beside the point. If you want to talk about a bigger flaw in the program why not talk about how a 5'11 big man coach is consistently turning Top 10 prospects into second round picks.

6-0 on the road...Another monster night by Dwight, I'm curious to see how they'll play against the Celtics on Sunday. It's the first game of the season I get to go to, should be a good one.

:lol Rumor has is it that he's already fallen out of the good graces of Van Gundy for dogging it in practice. He's quickly becoming one hell of a bust. It really pisses me off because I really thought he was going to be a great weapon for the Magic beyond the arc.

When are you guys gonna start comparing the Magics to the 90s Bulls?
You guys are way behind the curve, some Celts fans started the comparison at game 6.

Lets not get carried away with the Magic here, but right now they are probably the second best teamin the East and are a year of development away from a title run. Dwight Howard HAS to be the very very early MVP choice, he's an absolute beast. Meeting him in person really puts it all into perspective... the man's shoulders are bigger than a linebacker's.

I got to see him play in person for a Pacer game, and I had pretty good seats and the man is an absolute beast.
He is enormous and cut. Plus his athletic ability! He is only gonna get better and better, he's still pretty raw in terms of his offensive skills.

My roommate's from Florida and his mom is the travel agent for a few of the guys, so when they played the Knicks, Keyon Dooling (can't make that up) got us kickass tickets and met up with us after the game and we got to meet Dwight. He's the nicest guy in the world.

Well they've beaten the supposed number one team in the East, yes I said supposed. Take a gander onto ESPN.com and you'll see Marc Stein agrees with me.

I've ran into twice around Orlando and he was friendly and outgoing both times. He also does a ton around the community (Boys and Girls Club, etc.) Thank God the Magic locked him down this summer because he is only going to get better and better. He's only 21 and he's making many teams across the league look foolish.
CrashDMB237
12-04-2007, 01:12 PM
Look foolish because he owns the shit out of him or foolish because they passed on him? He was drafted first overall if thats what you were saying... either way, he's making alot of writers and analysts look stupid because everyone thought Okafor should have gone first.
And I personally think they are better than the Celtics, but you can't argue numbers right now, even though the Celtics have only played three teams with a winning record...
HoldemHart
12-04-2007, 02:23 PM
Well there are a few numbers you could argue. The Magic have played 13 road games, the Celtics have played 7. The Magic have played 10 Western conference teams (widely considered the far superior conference), the Celtics have played 3. And last but not least, the Magic are 1-0 against the Celtics.
