With the departure of A-Rod (thank god) who do you think the yankees will try to get? I looked up possible free agent 3rd basemen and the market is very small so theres only a few options.

bingo - cashman said that part of the reason he got betemit was if a-rod opted out....smart move

dont like him against lefties though. we were poor enough against them this year, next year we'll be flat out awful.

Honestly Lowell isn't as good a fit in New York as he is in Boston. The reason he has flourished is because of the Green Monster. Granted he is a hell of a hitter and I would love to have him he is just better suited for Boston. He hits doubles off that monster like no other. Bettemit is our 3rd basemen

the best option is A-rod... i mean clearly the best 3B/SS in the game.

Lowell would be the best choice, but that's not happening. I will be happy with Betemit as the everyday third baseman and spend money elsewhere.

A-Rod is not an option. Hence the idea of the thread and poll.....

Lowell...but its going to be hard to pry him from bostoni really don't think it'll happen. unless the yankees stupidly offer him a 4 or 5 year deal.

i can see the sox doing 2-3 years

Hopefully Bucky LaGrange, the no-armed baseball player. Or, if Hank Steinbrenner hates A-Rod so much, why doesn't he play third base.

I think they'll make a trade.

My gut feeling tells me Tejada ends up playing 3rd for the Yanks next year, but he might also get named in the Mitchell Report, which would hurt his value.

I'd love to get Lowell, but I don't think he leaves Boston. So I say Betemit

Mike Lowell has proven to be the most celebrated throw-in in baseball history. Even winning a batting title and a World Series title kept him in relative obscurity until he came to a team of relevance.

I'll go ahead and call myself out. I'm not sure if it was in the Yankee or Red Sox thread, but I went on a rant about how Lowell could not even be considered for the MVP award because of the kind of season ARod had, and I still believe that. The difference is that, he single-handedly carried the Yanks through the first few months of the season, keeping them in relative striking distance. And then truly struck out come postseason baseball.

Meanwhile Mike Lowell, only a few years in the baseball purgatory that is Miami, leads the Red Sox to another championship. Props to him :thumbsup

fine by me. if his value is low then we dont have to give as much up. we need a righty bat.
