What game do you think was the most tainted by poor officiating, shitty judges, or strange occurances that no one could control even if they wanted to?

1990 CU @ MU fifth down has to be up there(and always is on any list I have ever seen).
Not a "blown call", bad angle, questionable judgment, etc. Just a screw up by the Big 8 crew that was working that day. Cost MU the game and allowed CU to stay in the title hunt and eventually win a share of the 1990 NC with Ga Tech.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fifth_Down
That being said, I happen to be in Boulder getting ready to watch the Tigers play the Buffs tomorrow afternoon. Go Tigers!
Another one near the top of the list is Don Denkinger in game 6 of the 1985 WS.

How about the HR that wasn't by the Astros? And how can you question their legitimacy? Did you see their pitching?
Also, the dropped third strike, was a heads up play, every catcher is taught to throw to first even if its close, and Josh Paul fucked up. Bad call, maybe. Heads up play, no doubt about it.

the white sox were two indians' wins in the regular season away from an historic collapse. they got hot at the right time and had a few calls go their way. you're right, the AJ play was hustle. it was a bad call, but he gets props for forcing the (no)call. however, there were blown calls throughout the playoffs that went their way. that's how i question their legitimacy. besides, in ten or so years that season will be an afterthought. they came out of nowhere and they have already firmly planted themselves back in nowhere.

"ESPN's really lucky I didn't make that free throw. They're really lucky I didn't make that free throw." -Justin Cage, who unfortunately will be remembered for the second free throw that he missed after the no-call intentional, enabling tOSU to tie the game. People won't remember how the senior played the best game of his career in the last game of his career, scoring 25 point on 8-of-8 shooting from the field.

How has no one mentioned OU-Oregon? Besides the 5th down, that is the worst officiating in NCAA history. The worst. The ball doesn't go ten yards, OU recovers it and they STILL give the ball to Oregon. Then, during the possesion, they call pass interference and the ball was clearly tipped.
That's the biggest screw job folks.

Your logic is baffling.
The Indians didn't win those two games, and the Sox did.
It MAY have been a bad call, we don't know for sure. I understand there's some sort of evidence but if it were challenged in the NFL there isn't enough evidence to overturn the call.
There were blown calls that went against the Sox as well, like the HR everyone keeps forgetting.
An afterthought? The Sox were terrible this year, so were the Cardinals, and the Marlins, and other teams that have recently won the series.
I'm sure you're either an Injuns fan, a Cubs fan, or a fan of one of the other teams NOT GOOD ENOUGH to beat the Sox in 05. But please, don't try and say that the dropped third strike, or not dropped, was the reason the Sox won the World Series, that's a motherfucking joke.

I think that takes a close second to the US-Soviet basketball game. Not only did they get the call wrong, they got the same call wrong twice, and then handed the Soviets that game. I am shocked that it took anyone that long to mention it, though.

OK well if you want to talk about Illinois, how about Xavier vs. Illinois in December of 05? Are you telling me that the 3 big men that Xavier puts in to play against James Augustine get a combined 13 fouls called against them, and Augustine has 1 foul the entire game? :rolleyes

:thumbsup I hear you. In big, championship-level games, you gotta let the big men play. Officials will generally set the tone early, in terms of what will be tolerated. It may be at times they let the big men play and crack down on perimeter stuff, other times they'll let handchecks and that stuff go, and really come down on the big fellas. But in big games, let the boys decide the game

The Sox went 11-1 in the 2005 Playoffs, are you saying officiating was the reason for that??? They were in first place for EVERY SINGLE GAME in 2005...You gotta be out of your mind if you think there was a major blunder anywhere in that season/playoffs in regards to the Sox...none of the calls that were controversial ever directly resulted in runs either, its simply a case of people wanting a scapegoat as to why the Sox kicked all forms of ass in '05
And again, like no one wants to mention, the Astros had a phantom HR but no one wants to talk about that :rolleyes
