Bela and Tim at the very least.

Robert Randolph depending how they use him, I really liked the little jam before Watchtower at West Point.
Bela or Barnes, as long as theres a banjo.
Tim, I think everyone would say theyd like to see him back.
and last but not least I really would love to see John Mayer guest on ADSR I just think it would be a great fit. His style fits perfectly with the song.

Tim on every track.
Trey on Sugar Will.
RR on SUAD.
Bela on Shotgun along with a few new songs.
Mayer on Break Free.
Rashawn used sparingly.
...and a few songs with Greg Howard.

I want Tim on every song...he adds a depth and musical element to each studio song that is really unique, and complements DMB's style so well (i.e. the studio version of Rapunzel is just amazing, while when played live, its just missing something, IMO).
I agree with Mayer on Break Free as well.

Bela could probably make Shotgun that much better.
Rashawn on Loving Wings, since he changed the song for the better.
I agree with Trey.
Break Free seems kind of empty to be on the next album but who knows.
Greg Howard can actually guest on Shotgun, it has that Dreaming Tree feel.

Tim.
Then Bela. If Bela can't / won't Danny Barnes did a good job this year with them and could provide some great banjo.
Victor and Trey on Sugar Will. Rashawn used here and there.
Mainly for me though, Tim and Bela. No question.

I'm just being realistic. You know Bela isn't coming in, or Tim. But I'd be fine with Barnes. I really like Barnes, so I take that back--kinda.
Although I like Robert Randolph, I don't want him in the studio with these guys, I much rather have him on stage.
Think of it this way, Randolph can do great things in a live setting, but studio, I don't know.
I much rather have him mess up a new song live, than have him fuck one up in studio and having to deal with it every time I wanna hear the new album.

Obviously Butch and Rashawn on everything, but they're band members in my mind.
Trey on Sugar Will, like he was supposed to be the first time.
Some banjo on, really, a lot of the songs. Many songs on this album could handle a banjo really well.
I don't think we really need a guest guitarist (Tim), but I'd really like to see Dave write multiple parts for songs, and multitrack.
Never been a fan of Randolph, as he always goes back to the same bag of tricks, and it gets stale.
Oh, and the Lovely Gentleman doing backup vocals is a must.

Not saying I believe it or not, but I do remember someone saying how they were backstage at one of Bela's concerts and he asked him if he would be joining them in studio and he replied by saying its supposed to be a secret. Again not saying your wrong just throwing it out there.

But Tim? No way.

Was that ever verified or was it strictly just an online rumor?I mean, the feeling of overshadowing the band started on the road in winter 98, and I guess it was "confirmed" from people who were backstage. I'm not exactly posititive, though.

I doubt he'd fly in to do it, but I think Xavier Rudd laying down a drone on Eh Hee would be really great.

So Carter just didn't like what Tim added to the band (implying his overpowering tone), correct?

I think Bela will show up for sure since they are breaking. I think Dave and Keller Williams should sit down sometime, those two styles coming together could be very interesting. I would also like to see John Popper show up again cus Cornbread could be cool with a harmonica as well. sounds crazy I know but would be cool.
I know it would never happen but the rhyme with the roots on Eh Hee at Alpine was excellent- not for the album, just wanted to throw that out there. It was badass.

Never thought about Dave and Keller together, but that could make for a nice little jam. I like John Popper on Cornbread. I'd like to see Tim, Bela, Victor, John Mayer, Trey, and as much Rashawn Ross as they can fit on the CD.

I'd like to see Steve Lillywhite on the harp.
Ofcourse I'd like to see Tim, featured throughout the whole album. Bela on a few songs, and maybe some friends of Bela (not the Flecktones). The Kronos Quarter = gold too... Roby Lakatos would be lovely...

outside of the usual suspects (Tim, Bela) and in the vein of treading new ground, the band should consider
Daniel Lanois (as a guest, not necessarily as a producer) I think he could add more depth than Randolph. Lanois plays the steel much differently. Randolph would be good on a rousing song ala Bayou.
The Roots. - if DMB truly wanted to go in a hip hop direction, this is about he only way I could even think about it. If DMB does Eh Hee, then this should be a no brainer.
Danny Barnes - a Bela alternative. He could really add a lot to Cornbread or 27.
Warren Haynes - Why not? As an electric guitarist, this guy has serious chops and could do a lot for the band.
All in all, don't use somebody for the sake of using them. Go make the music and utilize someone who's talents will compliment what was created (see Alanis Morrisette on Spoon).

I don't want any guests on the new albumn. I think that the band is good enough to produce things on their own and then take that and make it better live. I like when we get some guests on tour to play on certain songs live.

I agree that the majority of the album should focus on the main band members' talents, but these would be extremely nice:
-Barnes or Bela on Cornbread (friggin loved the addition of the banjo on this song)
-Mayer or Trey on Sugar Will
I just hope they don't let Butch go overboard --- that would be a fatal error >_<

tim reynolds.
bela would obviously also be great, but i doubt the band would want to have him on as many tracks as BTCS (even though what he added to that album was amazing). it would sound weird for them to do that again. tim i could see, though. and i definitely don't have any objections to that :)

The only reason Bela won't be in the mix is because he did so much on BTCS... they don't want to be accused of trying to repeat themselves.

Ross will be on the new album .
as for guests... I dunno about whether to have fleck or barnes... my sense is that bela would be better on the banjo, but barnes sounded nice on cornbread this summer...
as for other guests? sure, tim would be nice...
but what about bringing the kronos quartet back on? ala stone, for one of the tracks...

I'd like it if maybe the ditched all guests that they have used in the past (yes, that includes Butch), and went with a few people they've never played with. Having said that, I'd like them to pull a major long shot and bring in Derek Trucks (the other guitar player in the allman bros).
Since that isn't going to happen, how about just Tim? NO BUTCH.

Completely agree regarding RR, but disagree regarding Tim.
I'd be fine if he didn't tour with the band in support of the album, but Tim's studio contributions, as subtle as they may be, bring DMB's studio recordings to a whole different level IMO.

Tim will do... as much as I love Bela and the Kronos Quartet, and their contributions to BTCS, putting them on there won't necessarily make the album good. It would probably make it seem like a cheap move to make the fans think this is BTCS II... which it won't be. Go in a new direction.
