I was pretty certain of a 2007 album, but that didn't happen. now it seems like the guys are taking their time (which is a good thing), so how long until we get an album.
i think its agreed upon that it wont be in the first quarter of 08.

if they are really interested in putting out a quality album, then it wont be until 09 because the newer songs that we have had heard dont amount to a quality album at this time

It's hard for us to pin down a specific month, I guessed December though.

I wouldn't cry if they more or less quit making studio albums. With only a very few exceptions (Spoon, some of the Everyday record) they just pale in comparison to live shows anyway. Just keep writing new stuff and keep playing it on the road. This would be fine by me.

I say July/August...the summer tour is shaping up to be huge (according to all the "confirmed rumors" in the tour threads), and hopefully thats in support of a new studio album :D

you guys caught Fonz's new blog right? All i can say is, sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet.

"Tomorrow I drive to Denver , then fly to C'ville in VA to do a little preproduction before heading out to Seattle to start our recording of our next record. So the times are good, and I hope yours are as well.

You all be well, and enjoy your moment this minute,
It is good,

Stefan"

With Fonz confirming that they're recording in Seattle w/preproduction starting this week, I see them recording a lot of new material before the tour, road testing some of it, then finishing up after. I'd guess October/November of this year.

Their mindset is that the last 2 1/2 years have been roadtesting.

The fact that they're doing preproduction in C'Ville and then flying to Seattle suggests that they are going into this in a business-like mindset: this is what we've decided to record, this is how we're going to do it.

I don't see the whole process going longer than a month. One month of recording with 2 years of pre-production is not bad.

Exactly.

I voted for May.

may would kick ass.

May would really technically be impossible. I feel that recording will go down to the wire (read: right before D+T, possibly during), and with the tour starting May 30th, they'll be going into preparation. And remember: March is recording. Not editing, engineering, mastering. That takes a good 2-4 weeks to do well. Then it has to go to pressing for CDs.

And this is all based on the hope that they're OK with their product after they're done.

I'm saying, hypothetically, if they're happy with the product after the end of the Seattle session, I could see it coming out late June/early July, in the middle of the tour, sort of like Busted Stuff. If not, December at the earliest, since the last day of the tour looks to be the first week of October.

What does Fonz mean about pre-production? What exactly is done in pre-production? Are they just laying down what songs they are gonna work on? whats going here?

Eh, the last show doesn't technically have to be part of the tour. There can be a break in between the "last show" and the last show. Especially when the venue has an inhabitant that you have to schedule around. I obviously haven't seen the tour list/rumor (or heard if it's even 100% complete yet), but there are a handful of shows locked down. And there's always some sort of mid-tour break on bigger tours. Who knows how long it'll be this year.
