Bored in class the other day, I came up with this list based on conjecture we've heard:

Excellent chance/near lock for making LP7
Idea of You
Shotgun

Good, not necessarily great, chance of making LP7
Cornbread
Loving Wings
Sweet Up & Down

Unknown chance of making LP7
Sugar Will
Crazy Easy
#27
Eh Hee
Dream So Real

Thoughts?

I will say that Cornbread has an excellent chance as well. IMO it is in the same category as IOY and Shotgun.

Why wouldn't 27 have the same chance as cornbread. I feel like they are on the same levell.

Also from what i have learned about DMB and recent studio efforts there is no locks so there could be a chance that none of these songs will make it. Who knows

Very true.

I really can't stand IOU and Cornbread. It is unfortunate that they are more likely to be on the album than any other songs we are familiar with.

I see IOY as being the most likely, although still not guarenteed. Cornbread about the same. SUAD is gunna be the sleeper I think - it fits so well with the new tone of DMB that I think they're gunna like it in the studio.

My opinions:
Cornbread should be in the top, Shotgun in the middle, #27 in the top and ADSR in the middle.

Those two songs are very, very subpar. :thumbsup

Very true.

THE LACK OF 2004 SONGS on the Stand Up album was infuriating ... Hello Again got hacked to shit, and then they cut crazy-easy, sugar will, good good time, & joy ride (b-side)...

Those two songs are very, very subpar. :thumbsupI understand not liking Cornbread lyrically, but musically I think it has just as much going for it as pretty much any other new material right now.

27, Shotgun, Crazy Easy, Sugar Will, Loving Wings, SUAD please.

didn't dave say one of the main reasons sugar will didn't make it on SU was due to the "sound" of the album? like it didn't fit with everything else on stand up.

Musically it is still very simplistic, too simplistic.

Which would be okay if the lyrics didn't suck butt.

I agree the lyrics toss some serious salad.

But the music is just too damn conventional and simple for me.

Yup. Music not worthy of the band that wrote DIDO and Rapunzel.

Musically it is still very simplistic, too simplistic.I can understand that....I think I like it musically so much because for the first time since sugar will and shotgun, I say to myself....damn that guitar riff is catchy as hell, and the song is riff driven. Dave used to do that whenever he wanted, but it's become far more rare these days.

I'd say Shotgun and A Dream So Real have the best shot right now. I don't like cornbread or #27, especially #27....but both could be vastly improved with different lyrics and an extended jam respectively.

Any thoughts of the little support for Joyride?? Seems like such a classic dave song, great live...

I realize it probably wouldn't have fit in well on Stand Up, but I'd sure love to hear it this summer...

I realize it was put out on two of the Live Trax releases... but i thought this was a studio album discussion...

my apologies for the confusion...

it is a studio album discussion, what everyone is referring to is the fact that Joyride was released as a B-side studio cut from Stand up

based on the new podcast, sounds like sugar will, good good time, and crazy easy are done for (for this session at least)

I think Cornbread has a better shot then Shotgun. Cornbread and IOY seem likely.

What the hell happened to Break Free? That was pretty good back in 06.

The Idea of You 1:1
Cornbread 2:1
#27 2:1
Shotgun 3:1
Loving Wings 5:1
Sweet Up and Down 20:1
Eh Hee 50:1

Any other song 100:1

Which is the worst news Ive heard in awhile, if they would just put 2 out of the 3 on the album it has a very good chance at greatness.

Crazy Easy should absolutely be an album. Though I agree it will, most likely, not make it.

Not sure how Crazy Easy/Joy Ride were left out of the official Stand-up release (though in this crowd, most folks got the companion disk with a version of Joy Ride on it). Those seem like the two best pieces of work they had during that time. Personally, I would take those two over every other song on the album with Hello Again being in the argument.

How about Sweet Up & Down? Would we be worse off if that song made Busted Stuff and, say, Where Are you Going didn't? Couldn't they have just left Where Are You Going on the Mr. Deeds soundtrack like they did with Help Myself (Scream 2 I believe)? They are fine songs, but I believe in love but believe it's my heart that keeps turning me down.

That's unbelievably sad.

Crazy Easy is easily the one of the best two songs the band has written and performed since BTCS.

Seriously...why no love from the boys?

No love for "Kill the King" on this album? Although it was only played for about a month in 2006 (7 shows). I saw it 6.26.07 at Nissan, they rocked out on it!

This actaully really gets to me, because I always think of what potential Stand up had to be a really great album. I mean this is always what my ideal Stand up album would have been and they had to go and do things differently.......

Hello Again (prelude) ->
Hello Again
Crazy Easy
Joy ride
ABI (5 min version) ->
American Baby
You Might Die Trying
Louisana Bayou (featuring RR)
Hunger for the Great Light
Good Good Time
Suger Will (featuring Tim, Trey, or RR)
Loving Wings

To me right there, this could have been a really great release

Amen... So many of those songs have had some room to breathe live and a few should never have appeared off of stand up...

As for the new album, factoring in rumors/news on the boards, this would be my prediction, followed by the ideal in my eyes:

Likely Prediction:

1 NEW SONG (BARITONE-HEAVY, Tim)
2 Cornbread (Tim guesting)
3 The Idea of You
4 #27
5 Eh Hee (Tim guesting)
6 NEW SONG (Baritone-heavy, myspace 07 video 4 soundcheck)
7 NEW SONG
8 NEW SONG
9 A Dream So Real (Tim guesting)
10 NEW SONG (Tim guesting)
11 NEW SONG
12 Shotgun --> Loving Wings

Ideal, however:

1 Sweet Up & Down
2 Cornbread
3 The Idea of You
4 #27
5 Eh Hee
6 A Dream So Real
7 SBC 05 Sound Check
8 Break Free
9 Crazy-Easy
10 Grace Is Gone Prelude -->
11 Shotgun -->
12 Loving Wings

Shotgun NEEDS to be on it. It gets twice as good every time I listen to it. If they make it as epic as I know they will, I might have a heat attack.

I really think it appears on the album... the fan reception, it's reappearance/reworking in 2007, and its pre-production recording in November seem to confirm that the band is keen on it... and after 2004, i dont think the band will want to upset fans too badly if they try some other experimental tracks on the new album...
