Well he's said things he shouldn't have twice, and been banned like you said. I don't see those as very good attributes for a mod. How many Mods are there?

Not enough of them - you shouldn't be able to count the number of mods on a 100000+ member message board on both hands. Just my opinion, of course, but there would be a lot less screwing around if there was a more tangible presence of moderation that knew how to apply and enforce the rules. Which means that we need more of them.

That said, moderators shouldn't necessarily be judged according to popularity. Respect, yes. How well you interact with other members without being the catalyst for unnecessary bitching, yes. How many of the opposite sex would want to bang you, no.

Jake is typically understaffed for a forum this big. i have other forums that are 1/10th this size with 5 times as many mods. it makes it easy to keep things clean and calm. plus its more inviting to new people who know if nobody else will say hi at least the admins/moderators will. thats always a good thing.

especially during the offseason when the rest of the crew isnt on every night updating the site with tour information or what not.

ya...i'd be fine with more GOOD mods. they don't stop them as is. way too many dupe/out-of-hand threads go on for way too long. it's not just a matter of mods not having time. everyone knows when a thread should be locked, but it just doesn't happen enough. people should lose thread-making privs more often. too many stupid people have made too many stupid threads.

i think one simple addition to the boards would clear out a lot of clutter, and i've mentioned it before. on the ubuntu forums, when you create a new thread, after you put in the subject and tab to the body text-box, it does a quick search for you based on what you put in the subject tab. it cuts down enormously on dupes. i believe they use vbulletin as well -- although i know nothing about how boards work -- i think it should be implemented if possible here.
