Put out an album that looks like this:
A Dream So Real
Cornbread
JTR
Sweet Up And Down
Blue Water
#27
Monkey Man
Crazy Easy
Sugar Will
Eh Hee
Shotgun
Loving Wings
Fans will love this album because its sick and it will buy them more time to work on totally new stuff.
That way they can put out another album shortly after and act like a band that isnt in retirement.
The Eagles come out with albums more frequently.

Is this topic really necessary :freak I've seen so many of the same damn track listings, I'm about to puke
Don't you think the band has "bought" enough time by this point? More like "wasted" if you ask me ;-)

why on earth does anyone think they'd record Blue Water at this stage of the game?!?!?

Are we allowed to have at least 1 song we've never heard? Personally I'd be upset if at least 1/2 to 3/4 of the album is not new

I don't want the band to record old songs they've overlooked in the past for one reason or another; I want them to show us where they stand now and record new material. Now's not the time for an obscurities compilation.

Honestly, I would like them to just work on new stuff. We've already heard all of these songs and have Soundboard versions of almost all of them. So I know what they sound like. I'd perfer more new songs, even if I don't end up liking them.

that makes absolutely no sense. why would you rather have songs you do not like then older songs that have been perfected in the studio? dmbs best songs with very few exceptions take a while to cook and be ready. or maybe they felt some older songs they loved did not fit with the album they recorded at the time.
i for one would rather all old songs if they were excellent versions and not just run throughs of songs like Busted Stuff, then new songs that suck.
sound board versions are not studio versions. dmb could do amazing things with songs they never chose to record. think of a studio recently.
i'm not saying go record all old songs. i am saying record the best songs you have right now and if some are old so be it. i'm not asking blue water old because quite frankly i don't think boyd could create a solo these days that the song deserves. i just think they should not so easily forget songs like Monkey Man, SUAD, Sugar Will, Crazy Easy, Loving Wings, Light Lift Me Up, Shotgun, that new soundcheck, JTR, #40, #36, Get In Line, Cornbread and some others from 04 and 06.
just try to wrap your brain around an album with songs like that. an album like that would crack the top 3 easily before.

Right and this makes sense until they record and people don't like what they do with them in the studio and everyone bitches about it.
I don't understand why you would want these songs on the album when they are played at almost every show right now. Why not get an entire new set of 12 songs instead of getting a studio version of recent mediocre songs.
Yes, the band created almost all new songs for Stand Up...but they created almost all new songs on BTCS too.

the last album came out almost 3 years ago...UTTAD, Crash, and BTCS were all separated by two years each. what about this process do you feel they're "pooping out"?

the albums or "turds" you forgot to mention, but i suppose that was more a case of the shits rather than pooping.

Loving WingsI took out the songs that more than likely will not make it onto the album.
Conclusion: They need to (and will/are/have) write more songs.

If the new album has nothing pre-2006, I will be disappointed, but maybe I will still like it; maybe I will even love it. But why not give some great songs a chance in the studio? It has worked out in the past. (Although I do not support JTR being on the new album because it was already perfected on the LWS - top 3 studio song for me!)

they had a lot of (if not all) the songs for UTTAD and Crash before they ever started in the studio. they basically had 4 years to work on BTCS material. they may have created everything in the studio, but they could have had ideas for stuff that they were just waiting for a time to use them.
and i believe the "pooping" is meant in the literal shitting sense of the last few albums being pretty crappy.

Its not that simple actually...
JTR/Sweet up and down are pretty much already released and are awesome
the '04 songs like good good time, crazy easy and sugar will are gonna have a hard time making it after all this time...
its gonna be maybe 4 songs we've already heard and a bunch of new songs that are awesome... the band knows whats up...
stand up and everyday are not comparable to uttad, crash and btcs... but they are not as bad as everyone thinks...
dmb are gonna pull out another album like the top 3... im confident

Screw bringing dead songs back from the grave. I want an album that reflects where the band is in 2008 and I'm sure that's the band's main goal as well. If some people don't like how that works out, well life goes on and no-one is putting a gun to anyone's head to continue to support this band.

What I want to know is why bands only put like 12 songs on an album when they still have like 20 minutes of cd time available. Add some more songs. They could easily have IOY, Shotgun, Eh Hee, Cornbread, #27, SUAD, and 8 brand spankin new songs.

Produced the right way, this would be the greatest album the band has ever done. I got rid of Blue Water and Monkey Man because I'd say they have virtually no shot.

no, you're not the only one. this song blows my hairy asshole. i'd also prefer not to see loving wings on an album taking up valuable space, that could be filled with something not utterly boring.
and did the OP forget "Idea Of You"?

I love these posts where folks put almost every unreleased song they know on a track list... the band will never release Blue Water, doesnt sound like it will return to Sugar Will/Crazy-Easy, and Monkey Man is DEAD... and didn't some of it get adopted into So Right?
Ill match you on Shotgun, Eh Hee, Sweet Up & Down, Cornbread, BUT what about Idea of You?

Heres what will be on it:
#27
Cornbread
Shotgun
A Dream So Real
Loving Wings
6-9 new songs (maybe an improved Falling Off The Roof, Some Devil Intro, MyspaceTV #4 Song)
Heres what shouldnt and wont be on it:
JTR, SUAD, and Monkey Man - we already have "studio versions" of these songs and they are spectacular. Id rather they play them live more anyways.
Eh Hee, The Idea Of You - Eh Hee has already been released in some capacity, and is much better D&T. TIOY has greatly declined from early 06.
Sugar Will, Crazy Easy, GGT, Joy Ride - we already have a studio joy ride (horrible yes), and the rest are not only dead, but grossly overrated on these boards.
Blue Water - come on, get real!

wow, i thought i was the only one who thought the 04 songs were vastly overrated and nowhere near being album worthy.
i agree with what you said about everything except Eh Hee, IOY, ADSR, and LW. i think IOY will be on there because its the one true single type song they have, especially if SUAD won't be on it. the other 3 i think are toss ups. could be and could not be, but won't surprise me either way.

I like the riffs of Sugar Will and GGT, but those songs are a serious bore. Very anticlimactic. Crazy Easy is just plain boring, musically, lyrically, and energeticly. Hello Again and Joy Ride were the best from that year, and they got slaughtered.
