I think it would be cool if DMB went the route of a more laid back type album, something soft, but the material would still have that "DMB sound" to it, but more laid back feeling. You all know what I 'm saying here.

We've had the dark albums: BTCS and tLWS
We've had the upbeat albums: UTTAD and Crash, Busted Stuff (sort of)
We've had the hip hop/pop kind of feel albums: Stand Up and Everyday

Why not something soft and laid back?

With some of the songs DMB has been experiementing with I think an album like this would look cool:

1.) Run While We Can
2.) Loving Wings
3.) Crazy Easy
4.) Good Good Time
5.) Stefan's myspace video song (from the 2007 tour videos, it is on the last video, it is played in a soundcheck)
6.) A song with that Some Devil intro riff (like from the RCMH concert)
7.) Sugar Will
8.) Shotgun
9.) #27
10.) Cornbread
11.) The Idea Of You
12.) Sweet Up and Down
13.) A Dream So Real

It would be an album consisting of mostly soft/laid back songs, but there some upbeat songs to give it a little flavor. I know the '04 songs are probably dead, but I can dream, right? This is all something to consider when thinking of this upcoming album. I think it would be cool to have this type of an album, although people would probably bitch that it would translate into boring/ snooze fest concerts.

I'd like to see this album as a mix of:

tLWs - VERY dark lyrics
BTCS - dark lyrics and long songs/jams
Crash - audio mix

I'll take whatever they give me.

A laid back song similar to Dave's Waste cover would be good though.

its definitely not gonna be all songs we've heard before on tour or on soundchecks, there will definitely be a few that they write during the studio sessions

My only real fantasy about a new album is that they go for a real clean but warm production sound. When I heard they had done some sessions with Steve Vining I really drooled at the idea of his applying the Windham Hill aesthtetic of simple yet delicious mixes to what are generally acoustic instruments (ie everyone except Stefan and Butch). Thought it would make a nice mature sound appropriate for DMB at this stage. I do hope they don't go for the BIG ANTHEMIC SOUND for the next album. Less presence, more presence, if you know what I mean.

Anyway the next album will probably have a dub reggae mix for all I know.

A mix between BTCS and UTTAD production/mixing wise would be lovely...

I'm just really hoping that this is an ALBUM. Not just a collection of songs that will be played live. I can listen to UTTAD and BTCS straight through because the music and production on those two are amazing. Busted Stuff I cannot listen to...just sounds real flat, but the live versions are nice.

I think this album has a good chance to be more UTTAD and Crash-like than BTCS and LWS.

Cornbread is really uppity and different, kinda like Billies. #27 is getting back to original DMB, more laid back like OSW. Eh Hee is odd, but its not all that dark. More like an upbeat Cry Freedom. IOY is the typical radio hit somewhat upbeat odd love song, like Crash. Shotgun is the lone dark song we have, like R&R on UTTAD.

BTCS was mostly dark with a little bit of light and love, where the songs we have now are more in the middle, not really leaning either way.

They need to mix it up. Look at this run on Crash:

Drive In Drive Out - upbeat
Let You Down - laid back
LIOG - combo of both (w/the jam), but mostly upbeat
Cry Freedom - laid back
Billies - hoooooly shit rocks your socks off
