What're people thoughts on a Capo on a guitar? I personally like the way it can change how a guitar sounds and I like to switch it around on a lot of different frets.
And also, why don't we have see Dave use one? Is it because he has enough guitars to be tuned to the way he needs it or is it "never used it, never will" sorta thing?

I love my G7 capo. Only use it for a couple of tunes but love it when I need it.
Anyone have one of those capos that roll up and down the neck? Never messed with one of those.

the overwhelming majority of daves tunes are in standard tuning. although he has been moving away from it more this decade (using raised-b, baritone, and that weird 12 string) a bit more often.

sometimes i like it. but then i go. hey if i can play it without a capo that looks cooler and is harder. so when somebody tries to play my song they go "man this guy is good"
hahah... for real.

I love it. Many of my original songs use it. IT allows me to got less guitar friendly keys and still play shit easily that would be difficult minus the capo. Bass note runs and picking patterns etc. can be much easier with a capo in certain keys.

I use one for many of my original songs. I guess I've never thought about whether I like capos or not, I just use them because it's necessary. I would rather play with no capo all the time for easier movement from one song to the next, but I like what a capo can do for the guitar's sound as well as what I can do with my voice with a slightly higher key on some songs.
Sometimes though I will notice if I'm playing something with Capo III or Capo V that I can just change the open chords I'm playing and play it with no capo.
As far as some of Dave's stuff, like the raised B stuff, I think it would be way easier to tune a guitar to raised B than to use a capo on VII. Capoing on VII makes it pretty cramped playing some chords higher up on the fretboard.
I also like to experiment with partial capoing. Like putting the capo on strings 4-6 and leaving 1-3 open, or 3-6 and leaving the b and high e open. You can get some nice droning going with that. I use a full size capo and just place it off center, but they do make partial capos that only cover certain strings.

Love my G7th. I wouldn't know how to wangle Stay or Leave, Oh (7th fret) or YNK (2nd) without it. I really dig the capo on 7th fret sound! Somehow inspiring...
