View Full Version : Should #27 be Renamed?

SSIA, and what should it be?

I think so.

"By me then" or "Hope you'll be by me then" would work for me.

Leave it.

I hope every time they play it in studio, they compare it to songs like #41 , #40, #36, #34 and it motivates them to be better.

patricksinger6
03-04-2008, 02:46 AM
yeah they should rename it, because it doesn't mean the same thing as all the other numbered songs (41 40 36 34) IMO. but if it doesn't get put on the album i don't really care it can stay w/ that name

kerplunk!

I don't think it's a big a deal but the numerical association is unlike every other numeric song. I just don't like it as much because it was the 27th song wrote in a under par sessions. Instead of including bad tracks on the count it should be in the first five. There is no way that 26 songs written before it were as good as 27. Maybe a handful but that is it. just because Dave strums a few chords, of Boyd plucks a lick does not mean it is a DMB song.

ant_marching41

Clumsy names.
Maybe the latter, but "By Me Then" is much better IMO.

But if they kept it as is, I'd be fine with that. Its a great song, and the title is irrelevent.

To The Arms of a Woman.fuck no. that's one thing i absolutely hate about #27. "in the arms of a woman" has got to be the cheesiest, most cliche line to use in a country song.

No, its ok as is even though it doesnt follow the same reasoning as the other numbered songs.

If it was to be renamed it would have to be named something that relates to a western-country theme, cuz thats what I think of when I hear the song.

spoot388
03-04-2008, 07:59 PM
I remember the one time Dave introduced it, it was in the middle of the tour, and he said something along the lines of "This is called 'hope you be by me then', but most of you already call it #27, so thats fine too"

I don't think they'll change the name of it because (with this band) the is a name. Its not like "hmmm" where it was just something random to put down. they gave it the name #27.

its a good song no matter where you are. it just depends on when and how often its played. hearing it 10 shows in a row doesn't make it a bad song. it makes it a song you've heard too many times and are now tired of hearing. but its still a good song.

If you're referring to why it has its name, apparently it was the 27th song Dave wrote on his new song-making rampage. It's probably to be funny too.

If you're talking about the song itself, I have no clue about why it was written.

Wasn't there a rumor quite a while ago that the song title had a connection to some brand of cigarettes? Maybe it could be renamed "27s" or something...

It's easy to say that now, but if Dave origionally named #41 as "Come and See," there's no doubt in my mind that it would be accepted by the fanbase.

Same applies to #27.

The band already has a numbered system when their songs are named with numbers. Obviously #27 is not the 27th song he has written. If it were then I would support it being it's name. As it is not, it needs to be renamed.

Find My Way Home. Yes, it is lame, but so is a song named after a number pulled out of thin air with no meaning.

But as others have said, the name #27 is here to say. It was listed as #27 on Piedmont so it's official. Unless they totally gut the song and remake it ala #36 >> Everyday.

No way! I love that song, it has a real old southern rock feel to it. It kinda reminds me of old DMB, before Everyday. And watching and hearing it evolve last tour makes me love it more. and how is this band ever going to put out a great cd, if every song they put out people "their fans" hate?

P.S. I think Can't Stop a good song too.

#27 needs to be scrapped, the song sucks. It isn't near the quality of any of the new songs from 2004, 2006 or 2007. If they choose to release it I think it fits on a Dave solo album more than it does a DMB album.
