Is there anymore info on this song? Is all we have the little youtube clip and the rare chance it might be on the album?

I think the dmb community would collectively shit themselves if machead appeared on the new album.
But here's hoping! :)

I feel like Carter is playing the rhythm that he does in The Dreaming Tree groove/outro part...but idk how many 7/8 grooves with hihats there are tho haha

hey man...you know i am all for machead making it on the album. i wonder though if it did, would they keep the name? kind of like a gift to the community.
i hope that whatever was made of it was not lost. its been buried for 10 years, so i think its either gone (ie not going to show up) or has been pieced out to other songs.
i hope i am wrong and that we see it someday!

what would we do if they just jokingly named something "Machead"? if its a full song that they release with that name, we'd probably call them out on it not being the true Machead within about 3 minutes of getting the audio of it because it doesn't sound like Paul or Radiohead.
If I ever get the chance, I'm going to tell Dave to have the boys play like a 2 minute improv jam and he scats and the only thing you can understand is when he yells "Macheeeeeaaaaad!!!", and have Lawlor put it as "Machead" on the setlist page. people wouldnt know what to do with themselve when they see it.

:lol I love how they were joking about naming the album that or so I read on here anyway. I would personally enjoy that if they did, but the improv jam would be really funny.

how so? its a 2 minute clip that sounds like DDTW, Raven, and DT. last time i checked, those songs were all well accepted. sure we have no idea what the lyrics were like to this or how long it was, but from what we have, it is better than any other 2 minutes the band has made in that time period.

Honestly, I see the potential I do. What I meant to say is I think there is far too much praise for this 2 minute jam. It's incoherent, sounds like a mix of other DMB songs, and is nothing more then a chorus...
I don't know. I just think it should be put to bed as far as "dreaming" up what it could be.

as someone said somewhere on this site, good musicians don't forget good ideas. its very possible that it could be on the album. if they played it during the 05 tour, they obviously didn't have it ready for SU, or if they did, it didn't fit the album.
i would say that at the MOST, it was only partially done in the studio, if at all, and that this album would be its first chance to come out. also, i think if the rest of it is as good as we think it can be, they don't need to road test it because they know how good it is and are happy with it, unlike songs like Shotgun where they are constantly changing and need the extra time to evolve.

what the fuck makes you think that a 2005 soundcheck clip (once played, mind you) will make it on a 2008 album?

unfortunately, you have made an excellent point. i fear that we are too far removed from when this is played. We know that Dave's recent writing spurt has brought in dozens and dozens of new riffs and lyrics...all this happening after this beautiful soundcheck.

Exactly. We've seen several threads on this issue over the years. And as much as it'd be great to have it on an album, I've long let go the thought of it ever turing it up again.

and how many albums came out since this was first played that it could have been on? a whole ZERO. it hasn't had a chance to be over looked for an album, so how can you say that it won't be on there? thats like saying a football team is going to go 3 and out on their first drive of the first game of the season. you don't know what will and won't happen.
and how many songs would we not have if they never took older music? wasn't the music for Grace around like 5 years before it ever became a song? they could have been working on this song for a long time, we don't know. and they're not going to road test EVERY new song, so for it to not be played at a show and say it is dead is foolish, especially with this band who is known for doing unpredictable things.

and as for the bold...this song making the album would be like a football team scoring on its opening drive, then forfeiting the game...then somehow coming back and magically winning the game.
if this makes the album, i will give you a blowjob. and that's a big deal coming from me, because i'm straighter than straight. i mean really, i fuck women all the time. day and night. 24/7, brahski.

but still, there has been NOTHING for it to be left off of. the band didn't just stop trying to make new songs for 2 years and then all of a sudden flip a switch and start writing for a new album. if something came up the day after they released SU, they weren't going to forget about it because they just made an album. they would have saved it if it was any good for the next time they could possibly use it, which would be THIS album.
i'm not saying that this thing WILL be on the album, i'm saying that you can't write it off because there hasn't been a chance for anything to happen yet.

I agree. :thumbsup Because the "bad" stuff can be justified.
You've got the three staples: UTTAD, Crash and BTCS. Then the Lillywhite fallout. So we got Everyday because the band wanted a totally different direction from Lillywhite because it almost drove them apart. Then we get Busted Stuff (which I still think is very, very, very good) because people wanted the LS to get released. Then the band wanted to have fun withouth having to think and they released Stand Up.
Now they're supposedly totally serious and hell bent on putting out a great album. They've been road-testing and working hard for three to four years. This album is going to be huge.

not to rain on the parade but we had no reason to believe the old albums were going to be bad. we actually had fewer reasons.
pre-everyday we didn't have a let down, it was all up and up. we thought they were always hell bent on putting out a great album. we had the lws songs road tested and fans liked what they heard. this new album was a sure thing.
pre-stand up we had one bad album, and believed it was a fluke, a re-direction to get back on track to the badassness that is dmb. we even had 4 (or five with ggt) very good songs that were all better than 99% of everyday. they had the perfect formula of half of a road tested album and half of a fresh album. they were now hell bent on righting the ship, showing that they can own all again. this new album was going to bring back dmb, we can't go wrong.
now 3-4 years later there is no reason to anticipate a bad album? we all know that what they say is not what they necessarily do ("carter is huge on stand up, he owns this record"). how many complete songs have been road tested that hold up to what we heard pre-stand up and pre-everyday? so, being through this a few times, i'm completely holding my hopes from going anywhere before i hear the greatness of the new album.
i'm not saying its going to be a flop, and i will be the first one in line to pick up their new disc. i'm just saying, be careful of formulating an idea of why this album has to do better than their last.

First, I wanted to bump this just in hopes that this may still turn into something!:multi
Anyway, I can see it being a segue into Dreaming Tree. And even though the drums are kind of similar (time sig, hi-hat), they are pretty different. On DT, Carter is playing free from the rest of the band while Dave and Stefan hold the rhythm. On this soundcheck, Carter is playing rhythm with them while playing off on the hi-hat.
