sorry if the title doesnt make sense but does anyone have correct tab on how to play the piano at the beginning of the song on bass? my ban d is trying to cover it and we dont have a piano player so maybe with some effects i can pull off the paino on bass.

I reiterate what I said. There is no Paino on American Baby Intro. You're all hallucinating.
Or maybe you all should READ the statements thoroughly, because you're all missing something. Because I sure as HELL know there ain't no Paino on ABI.
There might be some Piano, though...
:p

listen to like the first thing played. it sounds watery and sounds like an effect is on. if that isnt piano i have no clue what it could be.

try just these single notes then...
B, D, F#, G
just mess around with that and the Gmaj scale

well, we're splitting hairs here, but i'm not going to tab it out. itd be easier for you to just improv in G. just build off the main riff, that's all he's doing and adding fills

It very well could have been an improv in the studio that worked so well, its now an identifiable part of the song. Once it becomes identifiable and THAT memorable, it graduates to a "part."
Maybe

well then isnt every riff and what not considered improv at one time?

Taters, you know I was busting your chops for saying paino and not piano, right? Just trying to have a lil fun.
Either way, the other guys nailed it right... that is piano, just a different patch than a "Traditional" piano.

indeed it is. i forget what i posted about to begin with.
do you know how hard it is to realize you put "paino" instead of "piano"? lol, i was like is this guy retarded or something...

No, there was actually a study done that if words are mispelled, the brain can cycle them to be understood as the right spelling without a miss. Something like that. It's all good ;)

I believe the key of the song is Bmin, not Gmaj.
Butch is just playing different inversions of the chords. Wish I had a guitar around to figure it out for ya.

so hey just uses the same notes in different orders?

Not really. Do you know anything about theory? Or major and minor scales, at least? Instead of playing B, D, F#, G; try playing a note or two from each one's chord. So a B minor chord consists of B, D, F#. D major is D, F#, A; and G major is G, B, D. The F# chord is actually a D major chord with an F# bass note over it. So for that one, use a note from a Dmaj chord as well.
It sounds kinda muddy and out of place, however, if you play the notes low on the bass. So if you're trying to mimic Butch, I would suggest playing it pretty high up, and with an effect or two. I don't know what Butch plays exactly, but it's probably something like:
-19--14--11--7-----
-16--12--12--9-----
-------------------
-------------------
It'll sound better with someone playing the root notes over stuff like this, too. Hope that helps!
