Around 8:21. I think that DMB should try to write a song around Roi's riff here. Does anyone else love this riff? I think its pretty cool.

yeah, if no song evolves out of it, it'd be nice to hear it on a song during the upcoming tour. if not abi, something else.

yeah i'd love to see a song come out of it. its a way to make sure roi's involved. hes gotta be given room to tear shit up on this album and on tour. he has taken such a backseat to rawshawn and stuck to just playing little riffs like this at the end of jams like this, dreaming tree and wwys. the band simply doesn't sound as good with such a sparing amount of roi. also the pennywhistle is a necessity in the studio as is the flute. man im dreaming of a jam like studio 41, dreamingtree, and crush

Not to be a downer, but isn't this what Batson did? Heard little parts that he liked and then wrote entire songs around it.... I think the Roi riff is badass, but it's a slippery slope to start writing songs around horn parts...maybe i'm wrong

i guess what i was getting at was that dmb should write a song and try to interpolate this riff into it. try to write a song that this riff would fit well with.

i dont know if thats right or not. the difference is this part sounds good whereas most of stand up didnt.

I think it's one of those best experiences to listen to live. From Boyd's part, to Dave screaming, it's great all around. The simplicity makes it. It's not like they recorded an 8 minute version. Come on.

I really think that studio ABI is the best thing in Stand Up.

Live ABI's are to be taken in moderation.

I believe this is the same riff that Roi and Rashawn jammed the shit out of in Charlotte on 9/19/07. If that's true, it's pretty cool. Not sure you can make a song around it, but it was a lot of fun to dance to at the show.

I'm not the biggest ABI fan but I don't think that the simplicity of a song musically is a reason it sucks. Free Falling is pretty much three chords and thats a great song. The difference is that song actually has lyrics. If you want to rip on ABI, I would go after the constantly repeated line and unnecessary screaming that takes place. Although musically it is simple, it has a great build and crecendo with Carter going nuts and Boyd doing some decent stuff. I think it would be better without the vocals although it is pretty intense in person.

I think you hit the nail on the head. It's a bit catchy, but live it's just a solo showcase. I don't mind it. If I hear it every show for the next 3 years, I'll probably feel differently, but for now, it's cool. Especially when you get one where the guys do some fun stuff with it like they did in Charlotte this year.
