I know things are very far from finished on the album, but i thought of a cool way to close the album. If Shotgun keeps the same tone it does now, kinda with the idea that the world is out of control, it could be the album closer, then about thirty seconds after the track ends, Round and Round begins. (ala Last Stop Reprise-Spoon) I think it would be kinda cool to go from how the world is upside-down and the soft tone of the world going "round and round". I realize Shotugn and Round and Round are nowhere near Spoon or Last Stop reprise, and I know that we don't even know for sure what even's gonna be on the album, but I thought this would be a nice way to end the album.

I think it'd be cool, but then again, we don't need BTCS II, we need an album to rip Everday, Busted Stuff, and Stand Up three new gaping assholes

I don't know, I think BTCS II would rip them all a new asshole just fine

True, but they also have to avoid following a formula for greatness. Ending with a mellow, hidden track isn't creative anymore, it's been done with BTCS

It's also been done on UTTAD and Crash. :) Maybe not hidden, but they do like to end on a long, mellow note. Even Bartender dwindles gradually into a peaceful melody as the album closes.

Yeah I think that would be a good way to close the album. I think I have said this before, but if they started the album with some of round and round and finished with it, they could maybe sync it together so that if you listen to the album on repeat the end of the album fits perfectly with the beginning. Maybe have the final little bit of round and round at the beginning of the album. That way the album goes round and round. That would also keep it original wouldn't it?

a good idea. I'm in support of it even, however, it has been done. (just not by dmb)

still, I like where your heads at.

Mellow ending note = badass. That's true-to-form DMB right there. BTCS just did it in a pretty unique fashion. If they come up short on this new album, a similarly-designed ending may taint BTCS's uniqueness. I do really like the book-end-album idea --- that would be very interesting to see

They've also ended with an upbeat rocker (Hunger), a midtempo catchy pop song (Everyday), an epic dirge (Bartender), a great jam (Monkey), and a melodic instrumental piece (#34). I don't think they are relying on formulas.

I never said they were. The only point I'm trying to make is that the key to DMB's success with this album is to create a successful collection of music that doesn't look like they're grasping at past greatness. Recreating a similar album design as BTCS by utilizing jams in between songs and a closing mellow hidden track (as many people seem to want from this next album) is not all that creative. I'd rather see them do something radically different in terms of album structure while recapturing their signature musical complexity that they have all but abandoned in recent years...

Ok, i know this sparked some debate, but i just thought it would be a interesting idea. I'm all for new, creative material that is distant from BTCS in structure but has just as much DMB-ness. While I think it would be cool to hear Shotgun go into Round and Round to end the album, I would be even more excited to be blown out of the water by something I never expectd. I stand by what I said when I said this would be a great way to close the album, but at the same time, I also want to be hit by something I never saw coming.
