After a decent show last night in Charlotte i had fairly high expectations going into tonight. Traffic was terrible on the way in but once i still managed to get a decent parking spot and get into the venue early. Dave and Tim both came out during the opening band's set and jamed on one song. It was pretty cool to see especially being that there weren't very many people in the venue yet. Now to the show....

SEEK UP: I was so pumped to hear this one, i was ready for PNP->Repunzel, but this was a great surprise, Dave seemed really into it and excited....

SO DAMN LUCKY: I didn't listen to any tapes of this prior to tonight so i was really interested in hearing it and it didn't dissapoint, I love this song as it is but with the added jam at the end its really incredable, tim tore up the solo and dave's wails were awesome....

CORNBREAD: Heard this one last night as well, fun song, crowd was really grooving to this one....

GRANNY: Love this song, my first time getting this at a concert and it was awesome, crowd was very loud during this one i was surprised as many people knew it as they did, i was smilin the whole time :D .....

CRUSH: Another crowd favorite, it seemed like every single person in the venue was singing and the jam at the end was the best that i've ever heard, tim and coffin seemed to be dueling on their solo's, pure bliss....

SLEDGEHAMMER: Heard it last night and loved it and it was just as fun tonight, crowd was singing, i had to sit down because i was the 50 year old drunks in front of me were too ridiculous....

#41: As soon as i heard Jeff Coffin was filling in for Roi i knew #41 would have to be played and this was my first one and it was money, Coffin lit it up during the jam....

PNP->REPUNZEL: A little surprised to hear this midset, for some reason i had a feelin that PNP was going to segue into something else but i guess i was just being a little optimistic for something crazy, always love this combo though.....

THE SPACE BETWEEN: I was yet to hear this one live so i was pretty excited, Dave and tim almost played this one on their own it seemed, not much drum work from carter minus a few things, it was short and sweet and i thoroughly enjoyed it :thumbsup .....

DANCING NANCIES: Can't go wrong with this one, was hoping for warehouse next but....

THE IDEA OF YOU: Different intro than last year and the year before so i wasn't sure what it was at first i was hoping for shotgun when i saw the tiny guitar, I dig this song, the verses are still a little rough on lyrics but the chorus and music give this song great potential....

SMOOTH RIDER: Was ready for Bayou then Dave started into Smooth Rider, i was a little bummed at first but then Tim came in and made this song rather enjoyable, Somebody threw some sunglasses on the stage and dave proceeded to put them on and play which was awesome, Coffin solo's were awesome, but this song belonged to Tim.....

EVERYDAY: A little dissapointed with this song tonight after getting it last night, but how can i argue when the crowd is as into it as they were tonight, Thought they were ready for the encore break after this one but instead....

LOUISIANA BAYOU: A good song, crowd was going crazy, Tim adds a lot and coffin had good fills, Drunk girl next to me was acting like she just won a million dollars but more likely a super hangover tomorrow morning.....

ENCORE BREAK: Once again Dave came out and everyone did the we want Roi chant again just as last night except a lot people had signs of support for Roi, A cool thing to experience touching once again....

GRAVEDIGGER: Full band gravedigger is a cool song, i was hoping for a dave or a dave and tim solo but i'll take this, Glad to see some of Dave's solo work make there way into the rotation consistently....

TRIPPING BILLIES: I wasn't sure what was going to close, This song is a great encore closer, the boys had all kinds of energy, i made my way out during the end of the song to avoid traffic (yea i know how can a true fan do that?)....

All in all it was a great show, I'll give the edge to Raleigh over Charlotte this year. Dave's voice was spot on all night and he did a hell of a lot of dancing which always makes everyone happy. I could definately tell that Coffin was feeling more confident tonight than last night and likewise with the band's confidence in Coffin fillin in for Roi. I could have done without being surrounded by ridiculously drunk people in the front of section 5 (if you're that drunk you shouldn't be allowed into reserved seating because honestly you do nothing but hurt the show). But regardless of the drunks it was fun and a good setlist with lots of energy! Thats it for me this summer, i'll be praying for Roi so that he can come back and help make a kick-ass album and hopefully next summer will be even better. Thanks DMB! :monkey

Where were you in Section 5? Me and my friend were in Row B seats 9 and 10. The only annoying drunk I noticed the whole night was this guy directly behind us that yelled "YEAHHHH DAVE!!!!" about once or twice per song. They were great seats though. We had a great view of the stage.

good review, the setlist looks fantastic! encores are a little shaky though. I feel I need to defend the drunks though. You bashed 'em pretty good, but they pay money like anyone else. Yes they can be obnoxious, but here's the thing. If they were right in front of you, why the hell didn't you just talk to them. Maybe even make a drunk friend. I guarantee you if you would have befriended him or them, you could have stopped what was annoying you. You would think a true DMB fan( #1, don't F-in leave early, c'mon traffic?) and #2 would try and make the situation better. How is blasting them here going to fix anything? Anyway, try and take a little time next show and see if you, yourself can't make it better. And if they are that "falling down, cross-eyed" drunk, get 'em another beer and help 'em pass out!! I just defend them because I am one. I control my shit though and make the ones around me, have a better time. Some of us have JOBS with drug tests and can't burn out all day. Later............

anyone else notice the contradiction between the OP's complaints about drunks and the quote in his sig?:lol

Good review though

Pretty accurate. I would say Raleigh > Charlotte this year, which was nice because in years past it has usually been the other way around. I had a lot of fun at this show and was happy. Now I just want Charleston :(

raleigh >> charlotte. i was at both, raleigh crowd seemed much more into the show. spearhead killled it in raleigh, too. it almost seemed like last night was the end of a mini-tour. it was fucking awesome. and bayou, idk why, rocked the house. it was very very good.

but charleston is gonna be better

Take my comments on the drunks for its worth, i'm not agains getting drunk having a good time, but one of the girls next to me did not pay for her seat in fact got snuck in using someone elses' ticket so i have some right to complain on her part, but being drunk and having fun is different than being DRUNK AND HAVING FUN, but like i said either way i had a good time and loved the show, don't make me out to be a bad guy here ha, I was in section 5 row D seat 3&4

Maybe we have different taste in music, but I don't see how you could prefer Raleigh to Charlotte this year. Yes through Rapunzel it was better than Charlotte, but the rest of the show was awful.

Whats wrong with Nancies? Thats classic DMB right there. And while they killed it with some of the last songs, the encore made up for it.

The band as a whole just seemed more tight in Raleigh, don't think i'm blasting Charlotte because i had a great time at that show and it was great but i'll give a slight edge to Raleigh this year its just my opinion we may not have the same favorite songs and whatnot, like i said this is an opinionated review this is my experience take it for what its worth

Unfortunate placement for Nancies to be honest, that's all. I hated what they did with Space Between and really that's where the show went in the shitter in my opinion. I also strongly dislike Gravedigger and wanted Thank You instead of Billies (love Billies, don't get me wrong) so that also plays into my feelings.

That's cool :thumbsup It's just hard for me to enjoy a show where I had my arms crossed in boredom for almost half the set compared to Charlotte where I enjoyed everything except for one song (Everyday). I will admit that the first half of Raleigh was SPECTACULAR.
