Dave Matthews Band
July 29, 2008
Crew Stadium, Columbus, OH

Don't Drink the Water ~ Standard DDTW. no one was there yet. maybe 5,000 people. the boys played it loud thou. the people who were there sang along. still like the intro with Timmy instead of butch style.

One Sweet World ~ Another Standard song. this show was looking to be lame after this but maybe there was hope.

You Might Die Trying ~ once i heard this i thought we were in trouble. I do like this song though. Horns sounded good. the people at the venue did not.

So Damn Lucky ~ this might be the 1st song all night that the band really got into. this is the 1st time I've heard it since mid June and it sounds excellent. dave & boyd on end vocals rock. Timmy with his guitar is amazing.

The Dreaming Tree ~ good version of the song. what really made me mad was the fair weather fans who got up and left for beer and pottie break. this was a killer song of the night. I can see why the band is not playing Columbus that much.

Crash Into Me ~ Standard crash. fun song still.

When the World Ends ~ this song rocks without butch taylor. it sounds better and flows a lot better as well.

Two Step ~ 3rd best song of the night. Carter drum solo is one for the ages. Timmy & Jeff coffin's solos were outstanding as well. everything is coming together in this song. its starting to sound like 1996 versions.

Sledgehammer ~ Best song of the night. by far the most energetic song of the evening IMO. you can tell Dave loves this song. everyone was getting into it.

The Maker ~ another reason why i don't think DMB is coming back to C-bus. everyone got up and left for this classic. I believe Jeff played the flute in this one. great song.

Eh Hee ~ 4th best song of the night. more polished since June. love the way everyone is coming together.

Water/Wine Jam ~ Amazing long version. people need to listen and love!

Corn Bread ~ good song. standard corn bread.

Jimi Thing ~ Timmy, Jeff, Reshawn solos were amazing. Dave Scatting was freaking insane. standard outro.

Everyday ~ standard everyday.

Anyone Seen the Bridge? ...>
Too Much (Tease) ...>
Tripping Billies ~ 2nd Best song of the night. ASTB took 3-5 minutes to actually start. when it did Stefan was running all over the stage while playing. Jeff & Reshawn were blasting away on the horns. then too much started but was then switched up into Billies. great great ending to the show.

Encore:
Little Thing (Tease) ~ PLEASE PLAY @ BLOSSOM TOMORROW!!!
Gravedigger ~ great song. love it still
Ants Marching ~ Great encore closer.

I must say any night you only get 1 stand up song is a great night! the set list was solid. the only problem i had tonight was the crowd. everyone in my row got up and left every 3 songs. most people there cared about drinking than the show. i wouldn't be surprised if this was the last time we see DMB in C-bus. the shear lack of people there was prolly all the reasons why not to come back.

Rating A for the Set list. D for crowd

B+ overall.

Wait the show was in trouble after OSW? Would you rather have had ODH second?

A very disappointing showing in Columbus, not by the band, by the fans. The place was maybe 2/3 full and no one even seemed to care what was going on onstage. Perhaps the closing of Germain is the closing of the DMB era in Columbus. Not too long ago they used to sell out two nights.

Or perhaps it was the mandatory $15 for parking we all got charged after getting off the highway that scared everyone away. ROBBERY!!!!!!!!!!:mad

Ya parking was ridiculous! Any charge for parking after paying $70 a ticket is ridiculous but I think $5 is fair.

On another note. Was anyone else in A3 near the center of the section on that tiny "cable isle" they made down the middle of the section?? Dude that was horrible. Right down the middle of that section there was a little isle for all the cables to run up to the light and sound booths. This "isle" was maybe only 18-24 inches wide but the entire section was using it as a walkway. I am not kidding, there was not a consecutive minute where people were not pushing their way thru that isle. I wish they had not made that isle so wide.

that's the first time this tour (last night was our 7th) that we had to pay for parking. i assumed the parking prices were included in the ticket price as well, but were obviously wrong. good show, but one of saddest excuses for a crowd i've ever seen

I enjoyed the show. I blame the lack of a crowd on the economy, time of year, location, and lack of advertising. On that note, the people who were there, whether they didn't care about great songs like The Maker and DT, were still there. Normally, those are the fans that fill most shows up. So there were a lot less of them. That is just a glass is half full, don't blame the "crowd" that was there, angle. Those cable cords down Section A3 caused a lot of fights as well. I always hate fighting at Dave concerts.

The show was great, the band sounded amazing as always. I love that after 39 shows I always hear a song I have not heard them play before. I think the initial post in this thread is an excellent review of the show, I completely agree.

I will say, being a Cbus native, I have seen over a dozen shows here, and have become increasingly disappointed with the crowd. Maybe I am spoiled from being at Alpine last year, but the crowd here is nothing shy of annoying. Reading the other posts, I know it was not just the people around me. I miss the days of selling out two nights at Polaris! It would kill me to not see DMB when they are in town, but I am really starting to think my money would be better spent getting a hotel room and seeing them where people are actually listening to the music (i.e. Deer Creek, Alpine, etc). I am keeping my fingers crossed that the crowd in Berkeley will be at least a little more enthusiastic! :)

To the OP, where were you sitting? The crowd was pretty lame in my section as well

I was in Section A2 and all the people around us were very cool. They were really into the show, dancing around and respectful of each other's space. Which wasn't easy, considering how they packed those chairs together. I'm a small person and I had to stand at an angle from my seat most of the show.

Yes, there was a lot of drinking, smoking pot, what have you. But that's typical of ANY concert you go to. It's amazing to me how wasted people get when they pay so much for tickets these days. And wastedness (?) seems to have no age limit either ;)

It is too bad that there were so many empty seats. Does anyone know how many tickets were sold?

1st of all, don't hate me....My wife and I met Dave, actually Daryl first which was just as cool, before the show-crazy story. Obviously our night was complete before the show even started. I'm relatively "seasoned" one might say, but never thought I'd get the chance and was so unprepared for it. The teamwork- Rashawn and Jeff working together was unique, but Jeff plays his ass off for being in a tough situation I think. I like him. I love seeing Tim again, especially with his electric weapon! The set list and bands' energy speaks for itself, I can't say anything more for it. It was great, you can argue otherwise, everyone has their favorites I know, But as far as my wife and I are concerned, it was great. I thought more people would be hyped up for the Water/wine jam, and The Maker, c'mon people those were treats if you have any history !!! Dave, Steph, Boyd, and Carter were routinely superb, just like you have come to expect. A great show for us. The crowd was smaller than we're used to. And for the first time in 10 years I was hit in the back of the head with a glow stick - a sign of what this world/crowd is coming to these days. Hey did I mention I met Dave and Daryl---------Fan-freaking-tastic. The best show of my career for that reason alone! Oh yeah, we were A3row 15 seat 7,8. And thanks to the tapers (I saw 1 at A2?), I look forward to hearing it again.

We met Dave (through Daryl) also - just standing by the side of the floor right before Ingrid's show when daryl came up and asked if we wanted to go backstage and meet dave - did you see us - i was the guy with two young daughters..
