Don't even know what to say. I was satisfied about 1 song in. Nancies to open?!?! Where did that come from. Of the 25+ shows I have seen since 1998, this was hands down #1. Dave's voice was immaculate. He hit all the notes on Satellite.
Coffin blows the doors off about everything he touches. His duel with Tim during Crush was jaw dropping.
My first Halloween and Spoon. Only took 10 years :)

Highlights other than the obvious Nancies > Seek Up, Halloween, Spoon.... :evil ......

YMDT - Sorry to the SU haters but I LOVE THS SONG now. It has become a monster with Tim.

SDL - Another huge song - The jam to end this song is amazing.

Don't Drink in the E1 spot - awesome surprise. Two power songs in the encore - love it.

Crush - Jeff and Tim tore this apart. Must listen to this one.

Eh Hee - Another song that continues to evolve - have loved this song since it debuted last year.

After Ants closed the main set, Carter pulled a young boy up on stage - gave him a pair of sticks and let him have a moment to look out at the vast Alpine crowd.....he must have been around 6 or 7 years old. Very cool moment.

Glad I picked N1 - cant go tomorrow. I dont know how they will top this.

very nice review, but that really is weird that halloween wasnt originally but on their. Makes it even that more surprising they played it N1, and they really seem to love playing water into wine right after, almost as if it has became part of the song now.

I'm so glad you had a great show! Makes your summer, doesn't it?

I saw the Coffin/Timmy duel at DC N1. Blows the roof off!
I'm happy you got to be a part of that, too!
Peace

I could kick myself. Was invited but sadly couldn't swing it so close to The Gorge and then followed by The Greek - and oh yeah I have Sacramento in 2 weeks. Ok, no complaining, but OMG what a fantastic setlist. I love SPOON and hope during one of the last 6 shows I attend, they'll play it for me (smile).

YOU NEVER KNOW ~

I don't know if they were planning something else or if Dave just busted another string, but he switched guitars near the end of the Bridge and before the Too Much Fake.

It almost looked like he looked at Carter and said "Fuck it!" and went and got the another guitar. Maybe that was just my imagination though. I'd guess he just busted another string, because I don't know what they'd go into from the Too Much fake that would be in a different tuning.

I noticed that switch too and thought it was really strange!! it almost seemed like he was upset at the guitar guy for not having his guitar ready to go... he barely got back on stage in time too. regardless... halloween?!! sick!

If that set is true, the fact that where there was a question mark on the set and they played Halloween is awesome.

Well, the site is encouraging me to "take a few moments to ask a question, help provide a solution or just engage in a conversation with another member in any one of our forums" so here's a brief review.

This was my second trip to Alpine for DMB after going both nights last year. Opening with Dreaming Tree last year was probably my favorite live DMB moment I've witnessed, and it may still be, but there are a lot of moments from this weekend, most of which occurred this first night.

Dancing Nancies- Since I saw that an Old Dirt Hill had opened a show some time ago, I was ready to throw my chair if I heard this song first thing at the show. Thankfully we got Nancies and I did not have to resort to throwing loose objects.

Seek Up- This was my first time hearing Seek Up. I've been wanting to hear it since my first show. Needless to say I enjoyed every moment of it. Lots of intensity. Fuck yeah.

Proudest Monkey »- Three songs in and we have the second song I've been wanting to hear since my first show. They could have played the entirety of Stand Up after this and I'd still think the show was fucking terrible but quite a bit less than it would've been without these opening songs.

Satellite- Nothing particularly outstanding about it, but I hadn't listened to the song in ages and it was nice to hear again.

So Damn Lucky- I'm glad DMB shows are getting some of these songs. The outro was a little too long, but other than that a nice addition to the live catalog.

Bartender- Fuck yeah. Seek Up and Bartender in the same show? That combo is probably nothing new for some of you, but for me it was fucking sweet and made this already special show even better.

Corn Bread- Fuckin Corn Bread. I hate it.

Spoon- I love me some BTCS. Little did I know at this point that I was in for a treat the rest of the weekend. This was a bit of a rough outing, if I remember correctly (which it may have been me that was a little rough by this point). Nonetheless, a right fucking treat. I rocked out at the end. Coffin is somethin else.

Eh Hee »- They should have never played Eh Hee at Alpine again. The version with the Roots last year will not be topped.

Water/Wine Jam- I'd never actually heard this before. It wasn't what I was expecting (namely that it had words) but I enjoyed it once I figured out what it was.

Burning Down The House- This seemed to get a lot of people on the lawn more active. I really liked the cover. They did a pretty spot on version of it.

Louisiana Bayou- Ugh. Go away.

Anyone Seen the Bridge? »- This was actually pretty intense.

Too Much (fake) »
Halloween- Jesus fuck Spoon and Halloween. Indescribable.

Out of My Hands- Hey, one of the very few Stand Up tracks I like. I was glad to hear this, and I like what Tim's done to flesh it out a bit. Crowd actually seemed to be singing along...

Crush- The third BTCS song, and none of the "usual". By this point in the show it was pretty much solidified that no matter what they did on N2 that this night's show was going to be my favorite of the weekend, and probably ever. And we still had a ways to go...

Money- As a Floyd fan this was the most anticipated of the new covers they've been doing, and I wasn't disappointed. Like Burning Down... it was pretty close to a note-for-note rendition, but Money's a great song to begin with and you just don't fuck with it. They did great. Jeff is again the standout.

You Might Die Trying- Bah. You can yell as loud as you want and with exceptional emotion Dave, but I'm still not going to like this.

Ants Marching- Never been my favorite, but I understand its appeal and why it's needed in a set.

Don't Drink the Water- Unreal. Wholly unexpected and completely enjoyable. Then they went right into

Two Step- Yeah, this was the perfect ending to what was, if you're me, about as close to a perfect DMB show as you can get these days. There was no break between the end of DDTW and the beginning of this, and if there ever was a musical high I experienced it right here. The song is a blur because I was so into it.

The only thing that would have made this show any better was if The Dreaming Tree was on it. It is probably good for them that it wasn't because if it would have been on the set, I'd never have to see the band again. As it is they didn't, but it is unquestioned in my mind that this is my favorite DMB show I've seen. It'd take a miracle for another to top it; there's just too much here I love to think it could possibly be overtaken. N2 was great (and I'm sure many think it was better than N1), but for my tastes in this band- this is as close to perfection as I'll see from them.

I wish they could do fake last stop but the guitar change would be impossible
really?

you think so?

i was 8th row n1, watched dave break 2 strings on his guitar during the end of bridge. walked over to his guitar tech towards the end of the song and exchanged guitars.

just proof to all the naysayers that if they want to do it, it can be done.

I never write reviews, but I plan on doing one later. Of my 30 shows, N1 was hands down the best show I've ever seen. N2 was probably 3rd or 4th.

Agreed that I have seen 30 shows and this past weekend N1 is #1 and N2 definatly top 5...Spoon was unreal I am still in shock! I guess when they wrote on his website that Alpine brings magic out of the band they weren't kidding...
