Here's my lengthy review of Night One. Don't complain that it's too long.
Great Great Great Night
:multi:multi:multi:multi:multi:multi:multi:multi
Dancing Nancies - The first time I was geniunely surprised on the weekend. Was really interested to see how it'd sound without Butchy
Seek Up - By calling this performance standard, I'm saying a lot. But it was indeed as awesome as Seek Up has been all tour
Proudest Monkey ...> - I was really wowed by the ending jam on this one. Got me real pumped... so far the show was looking stellar. I leaned over to the girl to my right on the lawn and said, "You like Satellite?" she was like, "Yeah I do, why?" I said, "They're gonna play it next" she said, "If they do.......(long pause)........ I'll make out with you."
Satellite - Attack of the girl on my right, she definitely bit my upper lip, but I went with it
So Damn Lucky - ehhh. It's a great song and all... but hasn't changed much since they added the outro
Bartender - Realllllly good one. Love what Tim does and I was really surprised to see Jeff with the pennywhistle
Corn Bread - Definitely becoming a powerful track that gets everyone moving, even if they don't know it yet.
Spoon - the beginning through me for a loop for a second. Since I was in the lawn, I couldn't hear it well at first, but then the lyrics started... wow I love that song
Eh Hee ...> - Eh... well... Heeeeeee... It's good, I was ready for a breather
Water/Wine Jam - Reallllllllllly good... mellow, but nice
Burning Down The House - Great fun!
Louisiana Bayou - Same as always... gets people happy though
Anyone Seen the Bridge? ...> - Was ready for anything basically
Too Much (Tease) ...> - duhhhh
Halloween - NO way, I was surprised for a 2nd time at a show... that's rather unlikely these days. Lyrically it seemed better than the Riverbend debut.
Water/Wine Jam (Reprise) - just like 15 seconds of lyric real quick
Out of My Hands + - I thoroughly enjoy it because Dave is really having fun playing piano and I think he's very proud of himself that he can do it at the shows so well
Crush - Epic... Longest Crush ever from my quick research. Started to wonder when the Closer was coming...
Money - Thought perhaps we'd get a Money>Money closing act... but no. I liked this one better at Toyota (better Dave/Tim voice/Guitar duel)
You Might Die Trying - Hoped it wasn't the closer, but people really like this one. I do too... I don't know why there's so much hate for this one... the jam at the end is sick and Tim really rocks it hard
Ants Marching - Need I say anything? I did enjoy the extended ending they're doing. Looked at my watch and it was already past 11 after this one. Daaaaaaaaaaaaaamn
Encore:
Don't Drink the Water - Wow, this is a long show... Great version. This is one of their Top 5 most complete songs both musically and lyrically
Two Step - Never dull, but definitely a Top 3 Two Step that I've heard. Others in contention are 8.7.03 and 8.20.05. But up there with my fave versions!
Left Alpine and headed back to the campsite with a sour taste... How in the FUCK would they even come close to approaching the awesomeness from Night One tomorrow night?
We'll see...
