Hey just found out about this website at the Gorge show. What an epic event. Everyday seem to build upon the next leaving Sunday to come out on top to steal the entire weekend away. Crazy rain before the show to added a bit of flavor.

Night one was an emotional night for Leroi. I entirely expected it to be so as it was the first night they had played since the funeral. I do believe even Dave cried during one song.
Night two the band said some things during the first half of the show but after out of my hands they rocked it giving us an excellent show. I got to hear Sugar Will also .... which I had never heard.
Night three had many mellow points that were beautiful. Loving Wings made me so happy to hear. Dave rocked it on Warehouse and All Along the Watchtower. His voice raspy he let us "ants" sing part of Ants Marching. He closed with Thank You and I was ever so happy to hear it. He was also quite comedic that night as he almost got hit in the head with a glow stick. He said it had to have been a guy because girls are not retarded. :-) Also hoped us campers didn't get diahrrea.....haha I laughed and laughed because I was a camper. There since late thursday night.
Each night they played a slideshow for tribute to Leroi. It was amaizing all the pictures from his life. The most amaizing part was the Glow Stick light show. The fans threw their glow sticks in the air it was cool to see.
All in all it was a weekend to be remembered felt by all the fans there.
You'll be missed Leroi.

Most people camped, yeah. At least, most of the people on Ants that is. There are like 4-5 campgrounds, so that means alot of campers...
AMAZING shows though! :multi

Just Got back from the Gorge, where dave kicked ass once again. Night one was very emotional, a break in songs ended up being 10 minutes of the crowd shouting LeRoi with 9000 glows sticks being thrown through the ampitheater. All the band could do was sit on stage in somewhat of a shocked state, then blew everyone away with a rockin version of "Money".
Night 2 was by far the most enegetic show I have ever seen. Starting off with dreaming tree, I knew it was gonna be a good one. Sugar Will and Jimi Thing blew my mind, and covers of Sledghammer and Into the Black kept me going all night.
The third night was a lot less enegetic than the previous nights, the band and the crowd all seemed pretty out of it. Seek Up was a great start to the show and it made my day to hear The Maker. I thought it would be hard to top Robert Randolph and Watchtower last year, and Tim Reynolds really tried with a sick solo that included playing with his teeth for a few minutes.
Overall a great weekend, the rain through us off, but in didn't make a difference. RIP LeRoi

Yea Sunday was less energetic but great all the same. It's amaizing what a cool place the gorge is and am thankful I'm only 2 hour away (although I really wanted to get home today and got there in 1 hour 40 minutes).
Robert Randolph last year was totally awesome but it was pretty insane watching Tim Reynolds playing with his teeth!

I don't know about that. I froze on Saturday and felt like most of the crowd was struggling too. The show was spectacular but the crown seemed limp. Sunday was much better to me. Lie in our Graves was good followed with Warehouse which was even better then All Along the Watchtower blew me away. I was fired up. Dave's raspy voice added a flavour to the song the pushed it over the top. I think Sunday was the best DMB show I've seen at the Gorge in the 4 years I've been going there.

Folks, I'm sorry, but the weekend just did not compare with the past. It was my first shows of the year, and I've been worried all summer that we were having a major letdown. I know this is really unpopular, but just let me vent. My first show was in 96 at the Gorge and I've seen them many times - enough to have some credibility and perspective.
First, they REALLY miss Butch. Tim is an amazing musician and 'in the family,' but his guitar does not replace the keyboard layer. Musically speaking, this is biggest lost piece this summer.
Second, the whole band seemed really tired to me. Granted, it's the end of the tour (not to mention Leroi - get to that in a second), but it's ALWAYS the end of the tour at the Gorge. Other than Carter (and Coffin), I thought the physical energy was really lacking. Yes, Dave had some funny lines, but he always has some funny lines, and there was less interaction with the crows than in previous years. The fatigue makes we wonder if Butch was on to something when he took the summer off - let's face it, it's been all summer, every year, plus off season shows, for years. They've earned the right to be tired.
Third, obviously, is Leroi's death. It's hard to imagine the impact that must have on them emotionally. I don't want to comment much more because I feel stupid doing so - none of us can know, or even speculate, what the real impact is. But it has to be huge.
You'll note that I don't BLAME the band for any of this. They have no control over anything (except maybe finding a keyboard replacement, but that would have been hard given the last minute decision by Butch). I'm a huge DMB fan, always will remain a DMB fan. But I have a feeling that they may take 09 off. I wouldn't blame them and I'll hope like crazy that it's not a permanent hiatus (I don't think it will be).
Given this summer, would anyone blame them?

Not at all. They should relax, then maybe take some time on the album and at most have a small fall tour, but if they don't have it in them to do another full summer tour I would understand.

WORST.POST.EVER.
The weekend was PHENOMENAL! I have no clue what Gorge shows you saw, but I'm still on a high. I can't get over the energy they brought. I can't get over how MUCH BETTER they sound with out Butch and how I'd be on hands and knees praying for Tim next year and Coffin to join again. It was incredible. AATW still gives me chills thinkin about it. Out.

Well, I don't know about worst post ever, but I have to agree on the other points. I've been slowly coming off that same emotional high. N1 was emotionally powerful - a true tribute from fans and the band. N2 was a little off. N3 was hard rockin' with a crowd that was ready to rock along with the band. Throughout, I thought Tim and Jeff gave the band a little harder sound that I liked a lot. I've always enjoyed Tim's guitar and Coffin really surprised me with the energy of his playing. I don't know much about the sax, but he sounded real good to me, and he fit in with the rest of the band. Maybe they need a rest, or maybe the new energy from Tim and Jeff (if they stay on) will carry them through. Who knows... Either way, I love the music and presence of DMB at their shows. I just try to remember that EVERYTHING is temporary.
