View Full Version : DMBTabs.com + JKanter = Good News for DMB Tab Community

This is long but worth it(AND IF YOU CAN DO GOOD WEBPAGES, CONTACT ME, LOOKING FOR SOME IDEAS TO GO ALONG WITH MINE):

As many people know I run a DMB Tab website called Accurate Dave Matthews Guitar Tab. I'm sure you all know that my songs are all tabed from video's so I can see where Dave's hands are on the guitar. My site hasn't been updated in a while and that is due mostly to school and work. I am outwardly apologizing for my lack of updates as it is disrespectful to the community.

Now I'm sure most of you know that DMBTabs.com hasn't been updated in a while either. But what some of you might not know is that Mike has decided to stop tabing DMB only. He is giving up the site and handing it over to me. Most of his tabs will still be featured on the new site(even ones I have, more about this later).

Mike is giving me the domain name dmbtabs.com and I am going to use that name to the full extent. I am going to lay out a few of my ideas and let everything give me feedback as to what they think and want for the new site:

First - One of the things people don't like about my site is that there are songs missing. Most of DMB songs aren't there. My idea is to put my songs on there, but to also have user submissions. They would have to pass my inspection first of course but that would take care of songs I haven't already done(and also for songs I have). This would give users a choice of different tabs to play. It would also give some variety to the site. Different people could play slightly different parts(even rhythm parts) and have it sound REALLY good.

Second - Clearly my site needs a visual update. That will be the first update to the site if I take over dmbtabs.com(even if I don't) along with new songs on. I know it has been a while but it isn't easy to do this and tab out song when you have a busy life style like I do.

Third - A message board without pop-ups is a necessity and will be free to all(obviously).

Fourth - I have a couple more ideas that I would like to do but they will stay hidden for the time being. They could be very cool if I get them.

Fifth - Lyrics will be on the page. There is no doubt about that. Everything will be laid out nicely where you can read the lyrics on the same page as the tab(if the user wants them)

Sixth - Audio will be an INTEGRAL PART of the new DMBTabs. BUT, There is a catch, it will be the most innovative thing brought to tabs EVER. I PROMISE you that this single feature will go far beyond ANYTHING anyone has thought about tabs. That is enough said right now.

Seventh - The rest of the songs. Rest assured, I have EVERY DMB song on video tape except #34, Dreams Of Our Fathers, Kit-Kat, Monkey Man and maybe a couple others. I EVEN HAVE SPOTLIGHT AND BLUE WATER. I don't know if I will be able to put up great tabs of those because those songs are bad quality. One of my friends is sending me a compilation video with a lot of songs that I don't have(mostly Everyday and Lillywhite stuff). Anything before Lillywhite/Everyday I have on video except for Cry Freedom(which will be on the compilation). My site will not go up unless it has almost every song on there.

PLEASE SUPPORT ME IN THIS TIME. In losing dmbtabs.com the community has suffered a great loss. Help me take it over and become the definitive DMB Tab site on the net. Sorry to all other tabers for saying that, you do great work and will all be in the links section. It's not about competition and who's better...it's about giving the community what it deserves. Thank you and e-mail me with suggestions and anything else at jkanter@wam.umd.edu.

I think this is really awesome. DMBTabs.com is basically what taught me a lot of the DMB songs I know. I always thought the audio clips were a really cool feature. The only suggestion I could think of to improve it would be giving some way to show the rhythm for strumming the songs. Also maybe some tips about how to throw in those mutes that Dave does that gives him that real percussive sound. Maybe even short video clips giving some instruction. The other thing I wanted to mention is that I used to do website design (my friend and I ran a company for like 2 years doing it). So if you need any help with anything putting this together email me at DMBand520@aol.com. I'm also really good with doign graphics design in photoshop and I'd be glad to help out. Either way I can't wait for this new site to go up.

It would be nice if you could show how many times to hit a chord rather than us having to figure it out like we did on dmbtabs. Also showing chord changes in relation to the lyrics would be great. Thanks for doing this. Cant wait to get all my dmb tabs from one site.

Dude I have been using your site forever. It is hands down (even in its current state) the best current DMB tabs site on the internet. I full support your aquisition of dmbtabs.com and would like to assist in any aspects of its renewal that I can. The idea of tabbing soley off of video has been extremely accurate and after seeing your post today I think good things are in the future. Seriously man let me know if you need any help with the html or anything and please stay focused on this because the community really needs an accurate dmb tab site. Damn its nice to get excited about something once in awhile.

If you sent me an e-mail I def got it. IF I have not returned it yet, it is solely becuase I ended work today. My 10 week internship is up and I can devote my full time to the site. I get up at 6am every day and don't get home until 7:15pm. They are long ass days for me and I will def get back to everyone that e-mailed me. Sorry about that, I will def get back to you.....

On another note....good news for the site....read next post

Indeed I am, for it is sites as DMBtabs.com that got me away from the off (yet innovative) ways of playing Dave. I give you my support, what little it is, but I doubt I'm the only one. Good luck on your mission.

you've probably got the best dave site around. i would rather know how to play fewer songs correctly than a bunch of them half ass. while you are going through everything try and tab out some of your fills for the little jams especially on what would you say. you do a little three chord run up at the end of the jam riff that is very nice. i've fished around for the chord but can't find it. Thanks for all your work
Alan

alright....I guess it's time for an update. My damn cable modem has gone down for 24hrs so I'm on a dial up...CAN YOU BELIEVE IT!!!!! Anyway

The site is coming along great. I pulled an all nighter the other night and tabbed out 14 songs. I don't have a list of them right here because I am on my dad's laptop.

I am pretty sure the entire database portion of the site is completly done. I still have around 15songs or so to tab so that should be able to be done during an all-nighter and some addy. I then have to do audio also. Audio shouldn't take too long but after playing DMB for 12 straight hours the other day while tabbing, my fingers were about to bleed.

The layout of the site is pretty much determined and it is going to be phat. A few members of this community have seen it and it is looking real nice. Once that is done it's a matter of getting dmbtabs.com over to my ISP. That is going to be the hardest part. Anyway, hope you guys are ready because we are going to go live sometime between the 20th and 30th of August. Just as long as we can get the servers switched. It's gonna be awesome and I can't wait till all you get to see it......peace

I was just wondering if anyone knew the current status of this "project". He said that the release date would be by August 30th, and it's not. I'm not complaining or anything.. I'll wait for as long as I need to but I'm just curious. :)

Dude, I just wanted to thank you for all the tabs I got off your old site in the last year. I've been depending on your site for as long as I've been playing Dave, and thus would like to thank you for all the girls I've impressed with my Dave playing because of your tabs. Thanks a million man. Can't wait for the new site!!!

I'll tell you what. One thing I will NEVER do is try to take over dmtabs.com Apparently once you try to take it over, it swallows you up and eats you whole, and you are never to be found again. So sad what happened to Mike and Jkanter....good fellas there..

It's wonderful; I've been playing off and on for about 5 years, but in reality, I'm still a novice, so this site should be a great help. I just found out about it tonight. Wish me luck!
