Just wondering how exactly you are supposed to get into B tuning without snapping all of your strings

You can't. You have to get it strung into raised b. The strings are different gauges than they are in normal tuning. Or you can just use a capo.

just throw a capo on the 7th fret. it's really not worth re-stringing a guitar for a few songs, unless you can afford it.

Buy a set of strings and an extra high B

Throw away the low E

String the guitar from A to E as normal, but a step higher (B to F#)

String the extra B in the 1st string spot in it's normal tuning

Now you have B-E-A-D-F#-B

I put the capo on the 2nd fret and play something like A minor, C, and slide.. it works!

I've got a question regarding this. Why doesn't Dave use capo's? He avoids them at any cost by having a high B tuning or the new Villette (sp?) guitar he has for Shotgun and Idea Of You. I mean, the Villette is a cool guitar, but it seems if he just capo'd some stuff it'd be easier. I'm not complaining by any means, I'm just curious why he might do this.

The capo eventually creates too much frustration by limiting the space you have to work with. Say you have a guitar with no cutaway. Your roaming space is completely gone, especially since Dave plays at the 8th fret at one point instead of the normal C shape ("remember we used to dance...").

The Veillette and the alternate tunings give a fuller sound as well as more room to play on the fret board. A capo on raised B takes away half of the fretboard, not including the frets on the body.

Ahhhhh. That makes sense. Thank you so much for the answer. I've always wondered why he didn't use capo's. Well, again, thank you for the answer :)

Don't buy new strings..
Don't worry about the action of the strings and not being able to "have enough room", unless you have a Sears guitar.

Capo, 7th fret.

Think it;s like

E, G ,D C then a fiddle-fuck around with it there:)

I just play it in standard, that's what Tim plays it in and it sounds great

yeah, i'd say play it in standard tuning before capo-ing the 7th fret, obv re stringing sounds the best...nothing compares to its beautiful sound. I've had one in raised B for a while now and i love having it

it sounds way better with the capo than it does in standard tuning.

When? The only time I think he might have used one was for Good Good Time.

Capos just aren't my cup of tea. I like having a different guitar for each tuning. I still use a capo every now and then, though.

WPB 06 Sister

Didn't know that. He doesn't use a capo for that song anymore does he? So, are there any others besides Sister and possibly Good Good Time?
