Howdy Ants!

My wife and I are going to make our first trip to Alpine this year. I've been going to the gorge for 6 years and i thought it would be fun to try something new next year. We do not want to camp because we enjoy actually sleeping...

Obviously this all depends on DMB touring next year :)

Questions:

1. Good hotels in the area?
2. How far is it to drive from the closest cities and lodging?
3. Good places to eat in the area?
4. What should we do during our non concert times?

Thanks

1. There are hotels in Milwaukee. You can also try Brookfield (where I'm from)
2. From Milwaukee it is about 45 minutes away, Brookfield is about 25-30
3. Brookfield/New Berlin have good places to eat. If you want to make a trip down to Milwaukee, they have anything and everything you could want.
4. Non concert times = tailgating. The gates open at 2 so you can tailgate all day long.

I prefer staying in Elkhorn....it's much closer. Only about 8 miles from Alpine.

not much. but, it's just a place to rest my weary head. the rest of the time i'm tailgating!!

We stayed in Waukesha which I thought was a decent distance, and definitely less expensive than Elkhorn. But Elkhorn is a little closer.

If you don't feel like tailgating for 8 hours, there's always Milwaukee to explore. Which I would like to do some year. :) That's why I liked staying in Waukesha, it was the perfect in-between for Alpine and Milwaukee.

Are the Alpine shows usually the same weekend every year? I would like to try and book my hotel room now...

Nevermind...looks like it is different every year..

East Troy hotels are twice as expensive though, especially for DMB weekends.

1. East Troy and Lake Geneva
2. 10mins - 30 minutes respectivly
3. Bring a grill.
4. Bring a grill and beer and a shade tent, its literally surrounded by corn fields and there is nothing to do, unless your willing to miss the party in the lots then you could head ... um ... nowhere, its Wisconsin, just like the Gorge, remote. Bring beer.

Dear god, PBR is for when your 15 beers deep and too drunk to notice the difference. Amateur.

Don't like to camp or tailgate? Are you sure Alpine is the right venue for you?

The answer to #4 is rest up for tailgating. And when I say tailgating I primarily mean. Hanging out, grilling, meeting new people, stopping by 'Drew's place and take in a few jams (follow the University of Colorado flag), and occasionally sharing a beverage.

What I did for my road trip to Alpine this past year was stayed in Milwaukee after N1 (and started driving back to NY after N2). But it was awesome! They have great hotels, great bars, great beer museums, and also I went jet skiing on lake Michigan the day of N2. So if I do it next year its Milwaukee all the way!

Hope that helps you out!!

Oh and I'm looking to go to the Gorge next year as my big trip so if you could give me some insight to that, it would be much appreciated!! :thumbsup

Hey Phunky, I'm also looking to do Alpine in '09 ('cause it rhymes) from Portland. Perhaps this thread can benefit us both.

Thinking about doing the DMB Triple Crown too (SPAC, Alpine, Gorge) too.

This is great to read as I plan on doing Alpine next year and well...I have never been to Wisconsin.

I have started the DMB Fund already.

I stayed in Lake Geneva this year and loved it. That being said, it's a little expensive.
