I've got sorta a cheap Fender Amp for my electrice guitar. It was only like 80 bucks, so maybe that has something to do with it. But anyways, when it's on, it has this annoying hum to it. I know that's probably fairly normal, but its actually pretty loud. Louder that when I first got it I think. When I play a note or chord or whatever, that sorta drowns it out, but when the guitar isnt making sound, that amp is pretty loud.
Anyone know what this is or how it can be stopped/fixed?
Thanks.

A lot of times the gain being turned up too loud causes that problem. I have a very high gain amp and it hums a bit when I'm not playing when my gain knob is turned up a lot.

Yea, whe my gain is turned on and up, it gets even worse. But it still does it when the gain is off.

is it the same way when the gutiar isnt plugged in?
if it is then you are screwed, buy a new amp.

Good question...I'll have to check when I get home. If it isn't, could it be the cord?

yes it could be, if there is a part of the chord that is damaged (even if you cant see it) then it coudl be picking up outside interference. it could also be the guitar, but not any particular part.
it could be the jack, the tone/volumen knobs, the pickups or even how it is wired/grounded.
lots of fun stuff to figure out. :lorraine :lol
but, you do know one thing. it shouldnt sond like that. also it could be an easily fixable thing on the amp. like a loose wire or a loose jack.
