Great game tonight out in LA, it felt like a playoff game. I am still laughing at Loney and Kemp arguing with the ump, they completely ignored the fact that they just got schooled by the ageless wonder Rivera, god lord his movement on his pitches are still amazing.

That last at bat was pretty ridiculous. Those were not strikes. Anyway, great game.Excited to see the rest of the series.

They were pretty close but fuck I hate when they just look, go down swinging. Top of the lineup was horrible tonight. Hopefully they get it going soon, with the loss tonight we trail the Pads by 4. I still can't believe how well the Pads are playing. Hopefully they cool down after the half.

textbook.

i dont know what to think of the NL West right now. the Giants could come crashing to earth just like the Padres if they have a bad month of pitching. the Dodgers have yet to play consistently good, but they are right there, and have the hitting to compensate for a couple of weeks of bad pitching.

Neither do I, I still can't believe the Pads are playing that well. I keep waiting for them to come back down. My Dodgers are not playing consistent at all, last nights game was terrible. This next stretch should set the tone though. We will see what happens.

No matter what, I am sure this season is gonna go down to the wire. It's a 4 horse race in the NL West.

I am serious, it really does give a run to the Yanks/Red Sox, and unfortunately always overlooked. But if you take away the media hype behind the Yanks/Red Sox to me this rivalry is the best in baseball.

These two teams/cities/fans hate each other. They have a long history together.

strange story. i was going to school in chicago and i saw this story on yahoo's front page saying, "sox/yanks rivalry gets deadly" so i clicked on it and saw the story of this guy i knew from NH that got into a verbal fight with a woman at a bar, then she ran him over after the bar let out. very sad story...woman was crazy

the guy's name is matt. he was a good guy and i used to go to the bar with him all the time. damn shame...

I think a rivalry is that much more meaningful when both teams are great. Over the past 10 years, I don't think anything can top what the yankees and sox have.

game 3(?) of the 2003 alcs is a perfect example of what this rivalry is all about...probably 2nd best baseball game I have ever watched...coming in a close second to game 7 of the same series..

Yeah and thats why to me the Dodgers vs. Giants takes the top spot. You take away the media attention the Yanks/Red Sox rivalry gets and its a one sided rivalry, still a great rivalry but one sided. The Dodgers/Giants have been consistently competitive throughout the rivalry series. If you read any of the links I put up you will see that I am not some homer trying to talk out of my ass. The Dodgers/Giants rivalry is the best in baseball.

Javier the Dodgers/Giants Rivalry is better to you because it includes the Dodgers....just say it. If there was a poll done on any site as to which was the best rivalry in baseball 98 percent of America would choose the Sox/Yanks.

I mean we can go dig up links talking about the Sox/Yanks rivalry too.

The same can be said about you and the Yanks/Red Sox, but the reason why most of America would vote is not because its the best its because of the hype that is built by the media. But the Dodgers/Giants rivalry is one that has been consistently competitive from the beginning just look at the numbers from the links I have put on here.

My point in this is that you take away the media coverage in the Yanks/Red Sox rivalry and you look at the numbers in that rivalry since it began its hard to see a true equal and competitive rivalry. You look at the numbers between the Dodgers/Giants rivalry and its a really close and competitive rivalry since the beginning. That is all, thats my opinion on the matter.

The reason why the Yanks/Red Sox gets a lot of publicity in my opinion is due in large part to the big fanbase for both teams. They generate a lot of revenue whenever they play, etc. Its all a matter of opinion and to me the best rivalry in baseball has been the Dodgers vs. Giants, the Yanks/Red Sox has been competitive these past 10 years but the Dodger/Giants has been competitive and pretty equally matched for over 100 years.

From Wiki.

Since 1901 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2001_in_baseball), the Dodgers and Giants have played more head-to-head games than any other two teams in Major League Baseball. In their 2,158 meetings (seasons 1901 through 2009 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_in_baseball)), the Giants have won 1,079 games and the Dodgers have won 1,066.

oh for sure man, it's a great rivalry...

i went to school in chicago and actually had people tell me (daily) that the wsox/cubs rivalry was not only better than the sox/yanks, but the best rivalry in sports...with people saying dumbass shit like that it's almost hard to even take any of these debates seriously...

i agree that the fan bases of each the sox/yanks and even the media build up the rivalry to what it is today, but the play on the field speaks for itself. 03 and 04 postseasons...you cant write that stuff.

having an hour long special on the sox/yanks rivalry on ESPN 19x a year (or whenever they play) helps play into the rivalry a little too :lol

Yeah seriously, you can never get enough of the Sox/Yanks rivalry on ESPN, its ridiculous sometimes. It is interesting when you look at the numbers between the Giants and Dodgers, and how many times they have played there is no run away leader they have played more than 2,000 games and yet the Giants only hold a 13 game lead in the rivalry. To me that in itself speaks volumes in this rivalry.

The 03 and 04 playoffs were incredible between the Sox/Yanks, and just like you most of my greatest memories as a Dodger fan involve the Giants. The last game of the 2004 season was incredible, I will never forget that moment. Dodgers go into the 9th trailing 3-0 if they lose its over, no playoffs. The Giants do everything they can to maintain that lead but the Dodgers end up scoring 7 in that inning, after getting it to 3-3 The Dodgers load the bases and Steve Finley former Giant comes up to bat and bam, Grand slam to send the Giants home and send the Dodgers to the playoffs for the first time since 1996.

Thats amazing, well one thing we can agree on is that all the fans involved in these teams really love them, no matter what. I hope to one day visit Fenway, I was really hoping to make it out this year to see the Dodgers out there but I wasn't able to. I just love the history behind that field.

What's going on with Matt Kemp... A few days after SI's Heyman mentions it'd be good for the Dodgers to trade him he gets benched for 3 days (yes i know he played yesterday but he wasn't suppose to)

Is he acting out or is Joe preparing for a future without him

Not sure. But it may be a good decision to trade him for some pitching at this point. He's having a below-average season. The Dodgers have the capabilities to make it to the playoffs again, but there still is the problem of pitching.

Theres rumors out there that he got into it with a coach on Saturday. So Torre then benched him and he would have been benched yesterday but then Mannys hammy acted up so he got in. They were reporting that before last nights game Kemp went into Torres office to talk about whats going on, the outcome was that Torre told Kemp he would play in the next game. But the funny thing was that reporters asked Torre if Kemp would have played on Wednesday if he didn't have that meeting and Torre said he couldn't answer that. So Kemp was pretty much in Torres doghouse.

Quite frankly I don't really care. This team needs talent more than anything and a new owner. Until thats taken care of the Manager won't matter as much. I will say that I have enjoyed Torre while he's been here, they have come close to getting to the WS, just came up short.

Oh, I care. I definitely want Torre to re-up. I just think, as Javier said, that there needs to be more talent. I think our offense is great (however it could use a jolt as of late) but our pitching is dismal. We went from having one of the best bullpens to a mediocre one. And dont get me started on fucking Broxton.

I fucking hate McCourt, it looks like the hold up with the Lily deal, is.....money. You have one of the best franchises in the Majors, nearly 4 million fans attend the games every year and play in the 2nd biggest market, and yet you want people to take on some money. How the fuck were these morons allowed to buy the Dodgers.

However, the Dodgers want the Cubs to put some money in the deal, according to the report. Lilly has $4.3 million remaining on his contract; Theriot $933,000.

I don't know what to think of Mattingly taking over but I don't think it matters much with the mess that is going on right now. They will probably keep the payroll where its at and I doubt any big signings will be made.

We led the league in MLB attendance last year, we play in the 2nd largest TV market in the world and yet somehow our payroll is lower than Minnesota? Go fuck yourselves McCourts.

The 28 game hit streak by Ethier and Matt kemps play has been the only bright spot in this horrible season. Its amazing to think he is only half way to DiMaggios mark.

MLB has to kick these owners out, there is no reason why they should be given a second chance. What happened to Bryan Stow should've never happened. I don't understand why there are no video cameras in the parking lot. I also don't get how these owners raised parking rates 3 fold since they came in and their justification was more security and a more structured parking lot in order to get cars in and out quicker. The lack of taligating also effects the situation with the security since most of the security out in the lot is on the prowl trying to bust people drinking in the lots instead of making sure that the area is secure. The fans have spoken though, attendance is down across the board. The McCourts must go, no two ways about it.

i was so excited as i was reading this, i may start to cry. I can't believe it. I boycotted going to dodger stadium this season as well as many other fans. I think he got the point, might as well get out with some money. Attendance was at the lowest its been in 11 years. I normally go to about 15 games a season. It was very difficult to do but i will be back next season. I just hope we are able to make some signings this offseason.

I don't think he will be pocketing that much he has a lot of debt to pay off. No word yet on who the suitors are, so far from what I have heard, Cuban, if the price is right, Orel/Garvey team, Magic, De La Hoya, and an AEG team.

McCourt isn't going to be pocketing much.

McCourt and his ex-wife Jamie purchased the team after a long process just before the start of Spring Training in 2004 for the cost of $430 million that was mostly made up of loans and eventually property exchanges. McCourt is reported to owe in excess of $800 million on the team and must pay his former spouse $130 million in a recently agreed upon settlement between the two that lies outside the sale of the club.

I'd like to see a combination of Cuban, Hersheiser and O'Malley

Interesting that reports are the two previous owners, O'Malley & Fox, want the team back

As shitty of an owner as McCourt was/is (and I personally pegged him as a scumbag right from the beginning), he was brilliant in the sense he knew the Dodgers were way undervalued, when you account for the stadium, and most importantly, the giant parking lot.

I've read some reports regarding the debt McCourt owes, which is poetic justice, but sad, because its going to cost the new owner more.

It sounds like Torre is trying to get involved now with buying the Dodgers, he resigned from his post with MLB. I am a little hesitant about the group he is joining just because its a real estate developer and I wonder about them trying to move the team because that land if developed could end up being worth millions. I think my top pick right now is the Magic group, bids are due in on Jan 23 and we should know who gets the team by Spring Training.

And then there were 3, looks like we may have a new owner by the end of next month! I can't wait to finally get this done and move forward. I am pulling for Magic or Stan Kroenke, owner of the Rams. If the St. Louis Rams move to LA and he also owns the Dodgers, I think that would be pretty awesome to have here.

http://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/sports/Los-Angeles-Dodgers-Bid-Ownership-Finalists-144091826.html

The three finalists in the running to potentially own the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to the Los Angeles Times, comes down to:

A group led by hedge-fund billionaire Steven Cohen and Los Angeles billionaire and philanthropist Patrick Soon-Shiong;
A group headed by Magic Johnson and baseball executive Stan Kasten;
And St. Louis Rams owner Stan Kroenke.
The Dodgers could wind up selling at a record price for a U.S. sports franchise - $1.6 billion, The Times reported. The most a team has fetched was the Miami Dolphins for $1.1 billion in 2009.

...and the group that bought the team agreed to form a joint venture for the land around Dodger Stadium. As much of a douche and shitty owner McCourt is, the one thing he deserves credit for (and looks like it is going to make him a billionaire) is that the bigest value of the Dodgers is the land around there. With McCourt being involved in the land and with the price paid, I expect there is going to be some developement of the land there. Great move by the Dodgers, but at that price, it concerns me (concession and ticket prices are going to be crazy)

The one thing that concerns me and may be looked at down the line is the movement of the team to the downtown area. I think this is why that land was done as a joint venture. It seems that if/when an NFL team moves to LA, they will play downtown by Staples, if you are also able to move the Dodgers around there, you would have all 3 sports teams in one area, and you are able to develop the land where Dodger stadium currently sits, which is a prime location in LA. Or they could just develop the land where the stadium currently sits.

I am interested in seeing where Victorino will play, it sounds like Kemp is willing to move to LF but I figured Victorino would be the one moving.

"Victorino is a three-time Gold Glove center fielder, where the Dodgers have reigning Gold Glover Matt Kemp. But Kemp told the club he would move to left field if it meant acquiring a player like Victorino, who hasn't played left field since 2006."
