Does anyone here have a resonator, similar to Dave's? I've wanted to get one but I don't know too much about them, except for that I love how they sound. Are they dependent on a bottleneck slide or are they just as good played like a normal guitar? I have a standard acoustic now, and am looking for some variation. Any help?

this is just my opinion, but you can play any gutiar any way you want to play it so long as you know how to set it up to do that.
if you want to play a regular acoustic slide style with an open tuning. go for it.
if you wanna play a dobro acoustic style with standard tuning, why not?
just make sure you set the guitar up to handle the different string tension and so that you can easily play it for that purpose. if you dont know how to do that, take it to a tech and ask. they may give you a funny look, but say this "just experamenting."
how can somebody push musical boundaries if they arent willing to think outside the box?
