I must say that the part I had the hard time believing from the beginning was the idea that it wouldn't be out til June. Glad we have that cleared up... now I'm pumped. And I laughed so hard to all the paragraph comments... haha!
I think deep down this is why I doubted this kid with such intensity. I just didn't want to believe that it was going to be delayed......AGAIN!!!! I mean we've been waiting 3 years or so for this album and it only adds to our angst that SU was sooo bad and for the last two years nobody was giving up any info on this record.
I would have been pretty upset with another delay seeing how I probably would have skipped the spring show this year had it not been for the promise of new music (our wonderful economy has hit me hard). As much as I love this band it wouldn't have bothered me to miss another show of the same old stuff with a Huey Lewis cover or some crap thrown in. Plus, with the guys taking all the time off between sessions and whatnot it would have seemed to me that they just didn't care. In turn, I probably would have stopped caring (near as much that is). So cheers Sir Stanley, by getting this info you have accomplished more in three days than the whole ants community (and rock journalists for that matter) have in two years.

:thumbsup Yeah, that's what I was figuring. Which means that it actually has nothing to do with 'Live not Live'.
That's the point I was trying to get across (well, hoping I was right)...
When you're making a studio album, it's pretty necessary to have a master track of every instrument, for use in later processing. So even if they recorded all of the songs together in one room, they have to individually go back later and record the parts. Especially since, you'll remember, that Fonz's amp was studio mic'd and not a direct line. That seems to jive with Stan's story.
Not necessarily. They will still have master tracks, there will just be some minor bleeding across them. Not saying they won't rerecord parts, because I'm sure they will just to make it perfect, but I'm sure they have some of the best mics in the world, in which case a direct mic would be able to really limit what enters its channel. For purposes of solos, even the smallest bleeding may be problematic, but it is still possible to record live and have usable master tracks if you know what you are doing and have the equipment.
And after reading that I guess I didn't disagree with you at all ahah. Just my two cents, I suppose.

"Live but not live" recording, Carter playing aggressively, Tim all over the album. Okay, how can this album not be at least 10x better than SU?

*******For those who don't Follow*********
the "Live Not Live" just means that the band members played the songs and recorded them at the same time, TOGETHER, as they would in a live setting. Then, AFTER these recordings, they did layering and correcting of mistakes and multiple vocal takes. That is why, though the songs were recorded "live not live", Stefan finished up "his tracks" yesterday, which meant layering and correction.
This is a very good thing!! It gives a rawness to the recordings. Death Cab For Cutie used the same method (probably to a greater degree than DMB) on their last album Narrow Stairs and it received praise for it. It makes the album sound more down to earth and less "production heavy".
As someone already mentioned, "Crash Into Me" was recorded the same way, and all of Stand Up was recorded instrument-by-instrument, which is the opposite of this method.
In other words, this is AWESOME, and Stan fucking rules!
I do understand what you are saying, but that is not what Dave meant when he was talking about "live not live". He was saying that maybe someday they will take all of the songs that they play live but are not on an album and make an album out of them.

Nah, pretty sure he means they recorded it live in the studio, as a whole band as opposed to it being a "live" recording as in red rocks, folsom field etc.... hence it's a live recording but not a live and in concert recording.

:confused:confused:confused
That was my interpretation of what Stan said. Dave was explaining how the new album was recorded to Stan, and the "Live Not Live" approach to recording NEW material is what he meant (from what I read, which is accurate).
If it was indeed otherwise, let Stan correct it, not someone else who has a different interpretation (e.g. You) of what Dave said about the album.

I'm talking about when dave twittered something about why can't some songs just be played live, as opposed to being on an album, and then said someday maybe comeing out with an album called "Live not Live". What he told stan today was that the band played most of it live in the studio, which is what you are talking about. I think stan got confused about that in his post.

To add to what I previously said, this approach has been used be MANY artists, and is one of the oldest forms of recording. Before bands were able to record instruments seperately they played the song at the same time, recording together. This is, to an extent, what he means by "Live Not Live", as in the songs were played at the same time (live) but not without correction afterwards or in front of an audience (not live).
If I'm in the wrong, Stan will rebuke it.

I really hope that they eventually do this. There are way too many great songs out there, some which have never even made a live release, to not do so. Hopefully it will be many years down the road (by that, hopefully they'll continue playing and touring for years to come) but it would be a great thing to happen.

For the "live" recording aspect. They've been working on this album with LeRoi and for almost a year. Every song is not gonna be a one take live thing.
I think that they played and constructed the songs together in the studio and laid those down. Then went back and did the songs the traditional way to have the ability to mix it the way they want.
If that's right then that is so so so good for this band. The first 2 records were basically all songs that had been live for years and constructed that way. I think the method will be a fusion of BTCS and Crash/UTTAD. Hopefully.
Opposed to Stand Up, which was an amalgam of bullshit (that I still love, it got me into the band :) ) put together at different times, songs that band probably didn't work on together til Batson said hey this sounds cool Boyd add to this (while he's alone in the studio)
I think that really commerical, inorganic process (Everday, SU) has been acknowledged and replaced by a band who knows what they need to do and a producer who loves and appreciates music. We shall see.
I love DMB

The EP would be the godsend of DMB releases. Songs we want to hear that don't take up precious album space.
Trouble With You isn't the best song, I really like it a lot, some do, some don't but because it's not officially part of the album (unless ur outside the states) it doesn't catch flack because it doesn't fit in a specific piece of GOOD or BAD DMB. Cornbread, 27 and IOY should pray to be on a non-major release.
It would be the ultimate acknowledgment of the hardcore DMB community I think saying "We worked hard to give you this album, this piece of work. We also wanted to work hard to give you these songs as we think they should be. We've slacked off in the studio before, heres a present" that would be so fantastic

I never understood American bands/labels fears of EPs/b-sides. It's a win-win situation. Not only does it keep the band fresh in the mind of people, if they are bad people will just be like "meh, they are b-sides, they aren't supposed to be great." and if they are good people will be like "damn, even their b-sides are good!" It's always bothered me how much brits get music more than us. Although indie bands have started to put out a ton on EPs and bsides over the last few years so hopefully it starts catching on again.

Although, I do know the answer ha. Costs the same to manufacture a CD with 12 songs or 6, so if you are not sure if it will sell well, might as well not try. But e-EPs FTW nowadays.

Pearl Jam's "lost dogs" double album was all "b-sides" and it was friggin great

I love DMB
When a guy who has over 2k in post only got into the band with SU it makes me wonder how many are left that got into this band with Remember Two Things...........like myself.........damn I'm old

In other news... President Barak Obama, in a shocking turn of events impeached Vice President Biden today, sighting a general lack of competence. When asked about the details of said incompetence, President Obama had this to say....
"It has been brought to my attention, that STAN, of New Orleans, LA. was able to obtain information on DMB's newest studio album. The first order of business i had, now FORMER VP Biden taking care of, was procuring vital info on said album. It has been weeks now of the same thing, NOTHING! Then i come to find out that this kid named STAN has real solid intel on the new album. I have no choice but to relieve Joe Biden of his duties, and ask STAN to be the The New VP of The United States."

i cannot confirm whether or not Stan is in the studio right now because he hasn't called me since like 9...but i can confirm this legendary stan story from when I had a new years party last month... At around this time that night, I took a full garbage bag from the kitchen and threw it into the garage like I had with every other bag that night. But when i threw this one, it made a funny thud sound and some girl yelled 'OW WHAT THE F!?!' so I turned the garage light on to see what happened.
the girl was naked laying on the ground in pain and low and behold, drunk stan was sitting indian style right next to her. Stan didnt even smile. he looked at me and said, "bullseye" and then started hooking up with her again.

You sir completely misjudge me. I have ideals but I think they should only be applied to the right places, or else they lose their effect. You're bitching about the internet. The fact that you take the internet that serious is what I think is going overboard. You are bringing Marxist ideals into a discussion about the structure of an internet forum. And for the note everyone can have Ants+. It is their CHOICE not to. Simple economics basically. You pay for an enhanced service to help the site.

I'm not disrespecting Stan one bit, and it would not surprise me if he knows more than he is leading on but was told to keep his mouth shut.
IMO, the important questions are what is on the release, when will we get it, and will we get an EP in June.

I have to give Stan credit. I didn't believe him because some of it was farfetched but at the same time some of it was plausible. But I never believed the June thing because they are too close to being done for it to be pushed back a whole 2 months. The EP thing makes sense I guess for June but still if that's the case why not put it out at the same time?
And Stan if you were taking things personally... don't. When you've been around here as long as some of us have you become skeptical of people who have never given info before all of a sudden having something like this. Summer 07 we had someone say they had a friend working at whatever venue and Blue Water was soundchecked and someone edited an old BW clip and posted it. And then a few weeks later someone took the time to write up an entire fake article like someone he knew interviewed Dave and posted it. You asked a while ago why would you make it up? Why would someone take the time to fake an entire article/interview? People want attention.
Oh and to people who are now blowing Stan because he gave us some info this one time...stop. If someone questions him that does not mean they disrespect him or anything. We've had too many cases in the past where someone who gives the community a couple things then all of sudden you can never question them again like they are God himself.

Exactly...think of the raw sound that UTTAD has. This kid must be telling the truth...that was a lot of valuable info. I like that Carter and Tim are all over this album and that it was recorded "live". AND it looks like it will still be out in April!!!! Thanks, Stan! I have never been more pumped up for an album like I am for this one. I feel greatness coming...

Hey. Good morning. I am at School right now. I was reading back on some of the posts. Clearly I left this detail out. Dave said the album "was live as hell." I don't know what page my original post is on, but did I leave that out? Anyways when he said that I was so pumped. Also to the confusion of my facebook saying Plano West. I lived in Dallas up until this summer. I don't know how to change my network lol. Anyways, I will do my best to answer yall's questions. When I get back in the studio I am going to try and look at the tracklisting again. I dobut I will be able to, but it is worth a shot. I can't tell you guys enough how easy Dave is to talk to. You would think he wouldn't want to talk about music, and stuff, but the Two Step story, and Neil Young stuff was awesome. I couldn't believe he was talking to me about it. Dave is going to probably be back at the Hornets game next Wed against Orlando. I saw some of you ask if he was into the game. Chris Paul crossed up Eddie House, and got to the basket got fouled, and put up an incredible shot. Dave rose to his feet cheering , and had a look of awe on his face. Carter and Rashawn I think are coming back in town this weekend. Don't quote me on that. The band is leaving NOLA at the end of the month. Which is great news for us!

I really have no idea how EPs usually work. The only one I own is the Coldplay one, which I bought for 99 cents on Amazon.
I'm not sure how this would work, because I cannot imagine them giving it away, but another iTunes promotion would work really well here to promote the LP, EP, and tour.

I think it depends on what has been done with them. My opinion is the LP might contain the tracks featuring LeRoi's last studio work. If the new album is all new material I think Jeff will be doing almost all the sax work.

The way this story keeps evolving reminds me of that episode in the Sopranos where Tony gives Chris's girlfriend Adriana a ride home, they have a wreck, and he tells someone from his hospital bed that he was giving her a ride home, then it quickly shows the chain of phone calls where the story evolves from Tony giving her a ride home and wrecking from avoiding a deer; to wrecking because Adriana was blowing him while he was driving.
