Okay guys, so I'm pretty bored at work right now. I'm a consultant at my school in a media lab. I consider myself fairly adept in various forms of media editing, and proficient in Photoshop. Take this for what it is...my opinion that his photos are NOT Photoshopped in any way. I will do my best to explain my reasoning.

First: The Resolution

Okay, here's my first photo. I have washed it out on purpose to highlight and accentuate what I'm trying to show. This can be seen in the original as well. I have also zoomed in far enough that these can be seen easily.

When looking at each of the circled parts you will notice a very similar pattern. The triangles, or "steps" that appear throughout the photo are consistent all around. This just shows our subject along with the drum set, but this can be seen throughout the entire photo.

What this tells us is the resolution is consistent throughout the entire photo. This would be nearly impossible to mimic in Photoshop even if the two source photos were taken with the same camera. The problem with mimicking this comes in the pattern of these dead pixels. It may be hard to see here, but the black/white checker pattern along with this spatial layout of these pixels are so similar that it is almost certainly not faked.

Also, the amount of these pixels confirm a very low-res photo, and as the OP said earlier, the photo was taken with a phone. Looking at this, I would concur that this photo could only have been taken with a phone.

Second: The Source of Light

The arrows in this picture indicate where we can tell with certainty that a light source is coming from. Whether this is a window or another light source is beside the point (Although it looks to be very natural light). What we can tell is that the light hits all parts of the photo at the exact same angle.

The curtains, the door, and the subjects face are all recieving light from the same angle, high and to the right side of the room (From the subjects perspective).

The circles in this photo accentuate that there must be a significant amount of light coming from this direction. The drum is reflecting enough light that the source must be very close, and this is the same with the curtain above. As we follow the light across the picture and into the subject, it stays so consistent that I cannot forsee that being faked.

Third: The Shadows

Finally, let's tackle the shadows, easily the most important part in determining whether or not this photo is photoshopped.

What I have done here is increased the shadow and the light levels while removing the midtones. Why I did this is to accentuate the shadows in a new way. The darkest shadows here shown in black while the midshadows are in red. This shows consistency with our light source above.

More importantly though are the shadows above the subjects head and on his body. When we focus on just the channels here, there are literally no inconsistencies that can be found. The red above his head and throughout his body shows a vertical consistency in the light.

What's this tell us? That the subject must have been the same distance from the light source as the blanket above his head. The shadows are just too consistent to say otherwise.

In Conclusion
Unless Stan is a photo manipulation expert, I do not believe there is any way possible that this photo is photoshopped.

With the resolution, lighting, and shadows all being consistent throughout, it is my opinion that the photo is, in fact, 100% legit.

Okay guys, so I'm pretty bored at work right now. I'm a consultant at my school in a media lab. I consider myself fairly adept in various forms of media editing, and proficient in Photoshop. Take this for what it is...my opinion that his photos are NOT Photoshopped in any way. I will do my best to explain my reasoning.

First: The Resolution

Okay, here's my first photo. I have washed it out on purpose to highlight and accentuate what I'm trying to show. This can be seen in the original as well. I have also zoomed in far enough that these can be seen easily.

When looking at each of the circled parts you will notice a very similar pattern. The triangles, or "steps" that appear throughout the photo are consistent all around. This just shows our subject along with the drum set, but this can be seen throughout the entire photo.

What this tells us is the resolution is consistent throughout the entire photo. This would be nearly impossible to mimic in Photoshop even if the two source photos were taken with the same camera. The problem with mimicking this comes in the pattern of these dead pixels. It may be hard to see here, but the black/white checker pattern along with this spatial layout of these pixels are so similar that it is almost certainly not faked.

Also, the amount of these pixels confirm a very low-res photo, and as the OP said earlier, the photo was taken with a phone. Looking at this, I would concur that this photo could only have been taken with a phone.

Second: The Source of Light

The arrows in this picture indicate where we can tell with certainty that a light source is coming from. Whether this is a window or another light source is beside the point (Although it looks to be very natural light). What we can tell is that the light hits all parts of the photo at the exact same angle.

The curtains, the door, and the subjects face are all recieving light from the same angle, high and to the right side of the room (From the subjects perspective).

The circles in this photo accentuate that there must be a significant amount of light coming from this direction. The drum is reflecting enough light that the source must be very close, and this is the same with the curtain above. As we follow the light across the picture and into the subject, it stays so consistent that I cannot forsee that being faked.

Third: The Shadows

Finally, let's tackle the shadows, easily the most important part in determining whether or not this photo is photoshopped.

What I have done here is increased the shadow and the light levels while removing the midtones. Why I did this is to accentuate the shadows in a new way. The darkest shadows here shown in black while the midshadows are in red. This shows consistency with our light source above.

More importantly though are the shadows above the subjects head and on his body. When we focus on just the channels here, there are literally no inconsistencies that can be found. The red above his head and throughout his body shows a vertical consistency in the light.

What's this tell us? That the subject must have been the same distance from the light source as the blanket above his head. The shadows are just too consistent to say otherwise.

In Conclusion
Unless Stan is a photo manipulation expert, I do not believe there is any way possible that this photo is photoshopped.

With the resolution, lighting, and shadows all being consistent throughout, it is my opinion that the photo is, in fact, 100% legit.
