Did I just get taken?

I want to start recording some of my music on to my computer. I have talked to people before that have bought guitar --> USB and mic-->USB cables before and I have gotten mixed reviews from them. Some say they are garbage and sound like shit, and others say they are the greatest thing since sliced bread. Well I went up to guitar center and the guy sold me a "Guitar Rig session" which is an interface with recording software. It was $200 as apposed to the $35 usb cables I was talking about before. Did I just get taken on that deal or is this a really good little peace of machinery and it was money well spent. Any input would be helpful. Thanks y'all!!

my brother had a device like that, the software added all kinds of pedal effects and a recording program that was similar to garage band for Macs. If you are looking for something like that then you got a fair deal, if you already had the recording program and just want straight guitar no effects then maybe that wasn't the best option.
