I think the title's awesome! There's something about the timbre and flow of the name that rings New Orleans, which of course is where much of the mastering/laying down of tracks has taken place. But I wonder whether it's a track title?

Small town, Middle America is where the legend of Big Whiskey’s began. Throughout those 30 years this little corner tavern acquired quite a few regulars, but one of those regulars became a legend. My grandfather said this man wasn’t the average customer. He only came in a couple times a week and it was always between the hours of 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. He had done it for so many years it became tradition.

The same thing each time...he’d come in, have a seat and proceed with his order. He would always tell the bartender, “I’m only going to have one, so make it a big one.” Over the years of him coming in to my grandfather’s place and performing his ritual, he eventually became known as “Big Whiskey.”

As my grandfather tells it, Big Whiskey was the kind of man who always had the right thing to say at the right time, whether it was a joke, story, or toast. Everyone knew if he was sitting at the bar, it was going to be a good night.

The good thing is it's named after a lyric in a song (UTTAD, Crash, BTCS) and not after a song (Everyday, BS, Stand Up). Unless the song in the studio video ends up being called Big Whiskey and the Groogrux King.

That title is Horribly Lame and Corny!!

Fucking Terrible!

Just when i got my hopes up that this album would be great and even have a cool sounding title, they give us this.

It sounds like a 1950's cheesy sci-fi comic book hero!

Or one of those titles scrapped for the last Indiana Jones movie.

I really do think this title has a lot to do with LeRoi. Besides, all I care about is the music. They could call this album "Big Billy Bob's Giant Shitshow Extravaganza" for all I care as long as the music is good to great! (For the record, I think the title is, well, interesting if nothing else. As stated above, more interesting than Everyday or Stand Up).

Before These Crowded Streets
In Rainbows

These titles might sound lame without having terrific albums attached to them.

Oh come on, would you have thought the same thing about "Under The Table and Dreaming" or "Before These Crowded Streets," which are both different from a lot of album titles.

And I can't believe I am the first to point this out in this thread, but we know Groogrux King is Roi, and Big Whiskey obviously draws it's name from NOLA.

Guess you probably said the same about the "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" album title. Since we all know that if an album has a corny name it means the music that's actually on the album must be lame too. :rolleyes :BANG

This is great news as far as I am concerned. It has a back water feel to it. Not to mention that paying tribute to leroi is something that we all knew would happen and I can't think of a better way to remember their boy without coming off as depressing.

Personal story, I lost my best friend last May and the thing that keeps me from crying my eyes out everyday is still acting like he is around. Sometimes I call him crazy, other times I call him a dick for no particular reason, kind of hoping he can hear me. I want him to know that just cause his body isn't here our relationship is still the same in spirit.

May be kind of dumb to people who haven't been in such a situation, but I can imagine it is the same type of thing with regards to the album title. Especially b/c its their boy and not say for instance a mother, wife child, etc. Anybody guy with tight boys knows that jokes/phrases/remember whens, ,etc are different btwn you and them than w. anybody else.

Again, it is most certainly "grucks". That was what the band called Roi. They're not going to make the album a tribute to him and all of a sudden change the pronunciation. If it was Groogreaux, you'd have a point. But it's not.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5EQr0N96Do

I'm sure this is correct. It's too much to expect the average consumer to pick up that title and see "groo groo". The grucks is right.

Everyone knew if he was sitting at the bar, it was going to be a good night.

from www.bigwhiskeys.com (http://www.bigwhiskeys.com)

Now THIS sounds like Leroi to me. Not sure of the connection though.

That sounds like it also potentially describes Roi, and how we knew him, what little we fans did know about him.

The DMB marketing department is very smart. they are just giving us little snips ever once in a while to keep us content. I bet in two weeks we see the album art and then two weeks after that we get the Studio site and then two weeks after that the single. The delay was a good think in a marketing perspective

I love the title! It is creative and fresh. I just can't believe the posts I see from people on here saying it sucks and stuff...this album is something for the band. They don't even need to release music...it is a way to remember Roi. If you don't like it, you can name the album whatever the hell you want in your own little mind. And stop judging clips by 30 seconds of music. I understand that Everyday and Stand Up may not be the best material from the band, but in my eyes, if this album is even ANYTHING like those two, I will personally love it. I have a strong feeling that this time around the band really got together to create something nice, and it will have a good chance compete for a spot for everyones favorite album, or close to it anyways.

I'm sure this album will become known as, "Big Whiskey...," when being referenced in the future.

On a side note...

I hope the entire theme of the album isn't a NOLA, cajun, Louisiana Bayou feel. I was hoping the band was out of that phase, but it seems Dave might be stuck on it since he loves NOLA so much. I had this fear when I heard they'd be recording in N'orlins.

I'm going to say probably not. Here's why: Stand Up and Everyday lacked character. The titles weren't....well....different. Other than Busted Stuff, the titles haven't really been titles, they've been full of character though. I was a little shocked when I saw the email, but its growing on me because I see potential for some music with character. Lets not forget that its about the music, not the title of it.

I said, "On a side note..."

I wasn't implying that because of the album title, I feel it'll be a cajun-style album.

It's just w/the songs mentioned by Caveat (Bayou, Cornbread, #27, etc.), and Dave LOVING New Orleans as much as he does... plus the selection of NOLA as the location to make the album... kinda scares me, because I'm not really into that type of music.

It took me a while for the title to sink in, but I'll accept it. Can't judge the album based on the title, but personally I love the cajun feel in DMB's music. Believe me, Dave is right when he speaks of New Orleans's magic. I went there once, shortly before Katrina, and fell in love with it. If the album has a southern feel, I'll take it. True, SU wasn't as good as the Big 3, but I don't hate it. I don't care how the album does on the charts, I'll like the music (and as for the title, I'm sure Dave will explain it in interviews or at shows; the first thing I thought of was the town of Big Whiskey in Eastwood's 'Unforgiven').

I'm wondering if there's a parallel or a contrast between Big Whiskey and Groogrux King. A double-disc CD would be great, every great band has one.

Personally, I like the title. I think it sounds very interesting. First of all, like many people have said in the few posts i've read, it is just a title. In the past there have been horrible titles to albums in my opinion that turned out to be excellent, if not great. Second of all, I don't understand why some people on here don't see that even if they think it's a little corny, that this album title is paying tribute to one of the band's loved members? That in itself is a reason why I've taken to the title. Finally, if some of you are worried that since "the title sucks, the music will suck"....because the album title is a tribute to LeRoi there's no reason not to believe that the band's intentions are for the music to be embodied with the love of our late LeRoi Moore.

Inuyasha463

i was going to post this in other words, but you are spot on. take the specific words out of the album and what do we know right now from the title? they have leroi on their mind and they have some southern new orleans feel in them. to me that spells awesome music, having a great inspiration and great influence.

just remember, and i don't know if people are bashing this, but new orleans music isn't southern country. its got life to it, and i'd love to see their album have that sort of influence.

Apparently Dave was not very aware the album title was released. Based on his recent twitters. "I guess I'm out of the loop on decision making, thats okay bc its the name i wanted"

Fonz knew though.

It just strengthens the point more that the band makes the music, everything else - deadlines, marketing, management - is done through everyone else.

carter41dmb

It seems that Dave is probably pretty removed from the business side of the band. Just doesnt seem like his thing. Fonz on the other seems like he take a bigger role in that side of things.

It's a fucking title you people are lame... has nothing to do with the music!
It really does though. Of course we can't hear the music right now but the only title that "doesn't have to do with the music" is (Untitled)

That's what I was thinking.

I couldn't care less what the album title is. They could name it "horse shit on my boots" for all I care as long as it's good.

:thumbsup

I love the title. It's completely bizzarre and unique. If DMB hadn't done it, it wouldn't have been done.

Now Party Bombs volume TWO: Cajun Backfire doesn't seem as far fetched for a title as it once did.

Also, SKworm seems plausible, now, too. Like I said, they must have had the Magic Mushroom Tea brewing again in the studio.

I love the title..

Certainly more interesting than the generic album titles like Everday, etc...

It adds a certain.....mystery element to it all.

Plus, it seems like a trib to Roi.....

I hope the music is as awesomely interesting as the title.

These are pretty depressing lyrics

"still here dancing with the Groo Grux King. We'll be drinking big whiskey while we dance and sing. When I get to the end, I'm gonna end"
depressing as in shitty lyrics or because Roi's gone?

Southpaw2v

Now THIS sounds like Leroi to me. Not sure of the connection though.

Looks like the title will def. be lyrics of a song. Dave said that on twitter. He said the title came first, then the lyric.

Say GROOGRUX KING 10 times fast!

Don't know if this has been posted but...a Boyd tweet states...

"Garden Horse and The Stable of Fables" may be the most beautiful song Dave has written.

Also...

My favorite songs from the new album are "Garden Horse and The Stable of Fables" and "Gitfiddlin'".

I thought I'd read on here that there was question as to whether that was actually Boyd on Twitter, but I figured I'd post if for what it's worth.

I hope it was actually Boyd, becuase those sound like songs I might actually like. The more info that comes out the less poppy this album seems like its going to be (THANK GOD), but I'm not getting my hopes too high.

You're correct. Just read through the 'Boydt' tweets...he's a fake. This Boyd says he's been working on his rhyming and rapping.

Just got on the boards for the first time in a few days. Absolutely love the title! Is a title really "important"? Maybe not really in the larger scheme of things, but it is the face of the album for all listening enternity.

Anyway, my 16-month old granddaughter pronounces it "groo-groo" - so there!

I think the name is strange but pretty awesome. I love how they honored Leroi Moore in the title! Since the title is a little on the strange side I am going to guess that the songs might be as well. Which means possibly a new sound or style for the band which is going to be awesome. I cant wait for June 2nd and then the summer tour after. Its going to be one of the best years for the band.
