Can anyone tab this out?
I looked through a handful of tabs on Ultimate Guitar but none of them seemed right. Here's a video of him playing it on Letterman: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yqUvcIIx_2w

I can't figure this song out for the life of me. I've been looking for accurate tabs for about 4 years now since the very first version of I'm Yours came out. Fucking mind boggling how this song can't be tabbed. I guess I'm not doing to much to help though :lol

Capo 2nd fret
These frets are NOT relative to the capo
I don't feel like making the tab lines...
(x being E string)
First chord is 7 9 9 x x x
next x9 11 11 x x
next x11 13 13 12x
next x 7 9 9 x x
chord thrown in after "loved loved loved loved lovedddd"
x8 9 10 x x
brakedown
7 9 9 x x
6 9 8 x x
4 6 6 x x
0 4 4 3 x x
x7 9 9 x x
x 8 9 10 x x
That is the way I play it

Ignore the "(x being E string)". That was before I edited in the rest of the Xs

I'm not disagreeing, but what's the point of capo'ing if you hit only one open string that can easily be hit un-capo'd?

I guess I threw it on there because Jason does, and played it from there. But you're right, you can easily just play the 2nd fret instead of playing the open string with a capo there.
And the first 3 chords in the "breakdown" are missing an x(representing a 1st E string tat does not get played). Don't want anyone to get confused by that.
This probably isn't the same exact way Jason plays the song, I've never taken the time to really watch and figure out what he does, but the way I play it sounds close enough to me.

I play it this way as well. Everyone I've played it for seems to enjoy it so that's all that matters I suppose.

So if you capo the 4th, how do you play the breakdown?

Not sure what you mean by breakdown. If you're referring to the..
"D-d-do do you, but do you, d-d-do
But do you want to come on
Scooch on over closer dear
And I will nibble your ear"
...part, you can play it the same way. It doesn't sound perfect but really, don't think it matters as I'm not playing it same way Jason does anyway.
The G-D-Em-C version allows a smooth transition into the "3 Little Birds" cover that he's been known to do as well.

So if you capo the 4th, how do you play the breakdown?
7 9 9 x x x
6 9 8 x x x
0 6 6 x x x
x x 0 6 7 6 (D chord formation)
x 7 9 9 x x
x 8 9 10 x x
Remember, the fret placement is NOT relative to the capo

Believe I play it as B, F#, G#m, E???
I think? (can't remember since I don't have a keyboard in front of me)

All barre chords?

btw, Jason doesn't always play it the same way every performance... sometimes he doesn't even play a certain "version" consistently throughout one performance.

All barre chords?
Thats what I do on piano. So yeah I would assume all barre, although its probably not what you are looking for in terms of the guitar chords.

Ya I've always wondered why Mraz capo's 2nd fret, but he does.

I tried the B - F# - G#m - E tonite (all barred) and I gotta say, it's gotta nice sound. There's more deep richness to the tone versus the crisp bright dynamics of playing with a capo.
I'm gonna play it your way for a while. I like the tone change. Thanks for sharing your method.
cheers!

Glad you liked it (glad I guessed the chords right!). It goes away from the "ukelele" sound and sort of allows you to make the song more your own.
Again, as long as the progression is the same, you can put it in whatever key you want.

Time to bump a really old thread....
How's he playing it here? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=irSklXqsXBo

i can't stand that song :lol
i've never tabbed anything before, but it looks like he's just playing A E F#m D
just play the barre chords. i think he plays the F#m with a little bit different of a voicing, but i'm pretty sure that's the chord because it fits and the song is in the key of A
let me know if that works for you

It's one of those songs that is just awful lyrically, but it's so damn catchy. I'm a Mraz fan, so I naturally like most of what he does though.

I've never hated a song I love so much. This song was AWESOME when it first came out about 5 years ago as just an acoustic track. Now it's taken a turn towards everything I hate about pop music. I guess ya gotta fit in somewhere. Thankfully Mraz still knows his roots :thumbsup
