MSG was incredible. I've never heard a crowd that loud. There was not a bad song played IMO, except maybe Sister. Raven, Recently and Pig blew me away. Melissa with Allman and Tim was phenomenal. And Ants, #41, Two Step to close it out...with Billies as encore closer...I mean, what more can you say?
Initial impressions of the new songs:
-I listened to FTWII twice on a crappy iPhone speaker before the show and liked it. The show reinforced my opinion. I really dig this song.
-I couldn't hear Spaceman very well at MSG. I heard it better at IZOD. Definitely some things I like, but this seems like a song I need to really listen to several times to form an opinion about.
-Why I Am....holy shit. I loved this immediately. "Still here dancin' with the Groogrux King...." Wow. I was so into this at the show. The time signature changes in the chorus...so far removed from Stand Up it's not even funny.
IZOD was a letdown for me. After MSG, I went into IZOD fully expecting to hear Bartender, Crush and Grey Street...but I was hoping to hear at least a few of the following: LIOG, The Stone, BOWA, Dreaming Tree, Warehouse, YNK, etc.
I got none of them. Instead, I heard repeats of YMDT, Nancies, Recently, Cornbread and Two Step. Yes, most of those songs are bad ass, but TBH, it wasn't worth $70 x4 to hear the same stuff I had just heard the night before. To be fair, IZOD's Two Step is probably the best Two Step I've EVER heard, either in person or on recording. Simply amazing. Recently dominated as well.
Overall, MSG was incredible. Easily the best show I've been to. IZOD was a disappointment because of all the repeats. I was very glad I got to hear Stay or Leave full band and Watchtower. But it wasn't worth the price of another day in NYC/NJ, and if I had the setlists ahead of time, I wouldn't have went to IZOD.
New songs are very promising. I am more pumped for this album than ever.

You didn't expect repeats?

Thanks for the review.
I also hate it when I go two shows in two nights and hear a ton of repeats. I guess it is to be expected.

Unless the shows are at the same venue.

That's the thing....with some bands, you'll pay $30-$40 per show and see more or less the same show twice and deal because it wasn't that expensive. When you're paying $70 (or slightly more in the case of my MSG tickets) plus fees, you're in a position where you might end up feeling ripped off if you see the same show two nights in a row. I personally enjoyed both shows, but I agree that I didn't need to hear so many repeats.

I think there is a major crossover crowd between MSG and IZod. It might as well have been the same venue two nights in a row in the sense that you'd get about the same amount of return customers.

They don't look at it this way though. If you want to go two nights and not hear more than 3 or 4 repeats you need to go to two shows at the same venue.

Tour stats? Seriously?
When I shell out $70 a ticket and make other accommodations in an expensive city, I don't expect to see the same show twice.
That wasn't even the point of this thread. I simply stated that IZOD was a disappointment for me and had I known the setlists ahead of time, I would have opted to go home after MSG and not spend the extra money and miss the extra day of school. I never went on an angry rant about it. So chill.

yeah, the setlist repeats are maybe an indication that for an area with that many people trying to see them, maybe they are hoping people people will learn not to go to both.
anyways, in the beginning of dancing nancies from MSG, about 0:57 on Scott Brown's recording, dave says "Barrack Obama"
just sayin...

I will say that the sound at IZOD was better than MSG, but MSG's crowd was 100x louder and more into it.
I also had douchebags sitting around me at IZOD, spilling shit all over the place, so that certainly diminished my night.

I had the same issue and I was at both shows. There were tons of wasted high school kids around me smoking cheap pot and falling all over each other. Girls were screaming like they were at at Jonas Brothers show and they did not know any of the songs. There were meatheads smashing bottles all over the parking lot and dudes trying to start fights. I think it safe to say that the crowd at Izod kind of sucked compared with MSG.
Izod may have had a better setlist (irrespective of repeats) but MSG was a much better show due to the venue, acoustics and crowd. Izod may actually be the worst venue I have seen a show in to be honest.

Izod is a shitty outdated venue with a major design flaw (one concourse).
Not only that but with that horrendous boondoggle Xanadu sitting in the parking lot it is just an aesthetically displeasing place.
That being said I loved the show repeats or not. I do have some complaints, but none of them are worth mentioning.

Do you really think that they care? I'm pretty sure as long as they sell out both nights they'll be happy.

The first thing I thought when I stepped into IZOD is "MSG is SO much better" (as a venue). You should expect repeats when the shows aren't at the same venue. I was expecting the repeats to be Ants, 41, SDL but I'll take Two Step, Nancies and Recently any day.
At MSG, I couldn't hear the horns... did anyone else have that problem? I was in section 206.... and that is where I thought the IZOD center was better... the sound, surprisingly. Yeah, except for those douches yelling in back of me "WATCHTOWER!!! WATCHTOWER!!!" the last half of the show.
Overall, two greats shows!!

Tourstats? You just don't get it then....
8 repeats in a 16 set show....there's no good reason for that. :confused

Not JUST recently, but yes, I am complaining of doing 8 repeats in a night. At one point, there were 4 repeats in a ROW. :eek If you dont see a problem with that....well....we just have different expectations.

as an older DMB fan every show I attended used to have a completely different set list. When you look at the incredible tunes they have and still growing why repeat the same songs? www.dmbalmanac.com I know they have a tight sound and each band member has a family so I thought perhaps it's the lack of getting everyone together for rehearsals. I know during the tour that there will be a new tune thrown in here and there or a variation on some old ones. I used to travel all over the country for DMB. Now I stay local since I feel I know what to expect and I can burn the show from dreaming tree. The money I save on air/hotel and ect. only gets me more tickets to see more artists and experience something new. I was at MSG and I loved it. Loved the new tunes from BWGK and can't wait to hear the rest of the album. I'm hopeful for the fans attending the rest of the tour that more of a variety will come about. Next 2 shows for me are Jones Beach and I can't wait. I'm a die hard fan and I don't care what gift they give me those nights. I'm just happy I'll be there with all the other fans loving every minute of it. :multi

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'll happily take Two Step and Recently as many times as I can get them.
