Hey guys,

My band has decided, due to differences in style, to kick our current singer out of our band. Her style of singing was too dark and, well, upsetting for our upbeat happy pop-styled music.

We're currently a four piece with drums, bass, lead (electric) guitar, and sax. We play pop-jazz-fusion if I was to sum up the style of music we play. There's some deep funk, roots, and world styling to our music as well. Every one of us in the band is a music major in college. We've all been playing our instruments for six or more years.

Our influences range from DMB, John Mayer, and Jason Mraz to Umphreys McGee, Barefoot Truth, and Dispatch to Dave Brubeck, Lettuce, Tower Of Power, and Soulive. It's a funky style of pop.

We're looking for a singer, preferably who can play lead guitar, in the New Haven area to join on our band. It's absolutely important that you understand music, can read it, and can write it. We're not looking for anyone who can't read, write, and understand it. If you're interested and between the age of 18-25 please let me know!

We're on hiatus as my band is in different parts of New England for summer break. But we're going to need a singer come August!

I'm not your frontman, but if you guys have any gigs in the New Haven area, I'd love to come hear you.

The fact that you said 'if you cant read music, you cant be in our group' really gets under my skin. Off the top of my head, frontmen that cant read music:

Dave Matthews
Thom yorke
Bob Dylan
Lennon/McCartney
Isaac Brock
Kurt Cobain
etc
etc

I understand music theory is valuable to understand, but talent is talent.

Well, this is a group decision. Our previous singer didn't understand anything. Couldn't follow us for shit, or knew how to sing to our tunes. We're not letting that happen again.

We need someone who can keep up with us. And that means they have to at least understand and read (even just simple charts) music. We can all do the writing. Sure, there's some great frontmen that don't understand music, but guess what, that's them. We know what we're looking for.

Dude, I'm loving your band's stuff! My band and I would LOVE to do gigs with you once we get our singer situation taken care of, and we write some more material.

That's great! We are looking for another band to start booking shows with that has a similar style. Keep me in the loop when you get your project more set!
