I am looking to buy a new acoustic guitar as my old is a cheap one that i got as a gift a few years ago (not that I am not thankful, but it's time for an upgrade). I really dont have too much knowledge on acoustic guitars and figure someone on here would know more. My budget is about $200 and I really don't want to go over that. If I can get it cheaper, then that would be great. I am looking for one that will last me a little while. Any info would be great!

I've got to be honest here. Any guitar you can get for <$200 is not going to be significantly better than what you have now. I know people don't like to hear this, but save up a little more before you buy anything, unless your current guitar is completely unplayable (i.e. broken).
There's an outside chance you could find something used for around that much from someone who is anxious to get rid of it. Look for Yamaha, Seagull, Alvarez, Takamine, some Ibanez models. A solid top would be ideal.

If you could spring another $100 for this:

I would highly recommend it. This was my first acoustic guitar. I've since moved on to a few Martins that I'm in love with. But, this Ibanez still holds a place in my heart. LOL. This guitar plays well, has pretty good tone, and sounds good plugged in. If you could try for this, you wouldn't be disappointed.

Get a Washburn D10s. They are great guitars for the money.

This should be right up your alley: http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Daisy-Rock-Wildwood-Short-Scale-Acoustic-Guitar?sku=514482
Seriously, save an extra $3-400 bones and you'll be happier in the long run.

my suggestion to anyone who is serious about playing guitar for the rest of their life is just save up to about 800-1200 bucks and just buy a real quality instrument. in the long run it will last long, it would sound and play better and you can return your investment in some cases. my friend has a (now canceled) Taylor 310 he got for under 1200 he can get that much for it still.
a Martin D-15 or Taylor 200 series or equivalent brands will do the trick.
if you are looking for something for the next few years you still really need to go to the 3-400 dollar range for anything that will not frustrate you or that you will not have to upgrade.
if you are set on 200 bucks, i suggest a Jasmine by Takamine. Takamine makes good guitars and the jasmines are their economy line, i own one (it was my first guitar) you can buy an acoustic electric one for under 200.

until you are able to pay for a nicer guitar, keep the one you have and put some Elixir polyweb strings on it. those strings can make any guitar sounds good

well thanks for all the responses, they have really been helpful. I guess my $200 just isn't going to cut it then...buying one for that much now will only be minor replacement. Guess I am just going to have to save more, in the long run it sounds like with will be worth the investment. Thanks again for the help!
